Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Defensive metrics are a function of range and arm, right? I think part of the problem for Rosario is that teams don't run on him. I don't think he dropped from 32 Assist in 2015 to 20 in 2016 to 6 this year because his arm got weaker or something. welcome to the site!

Steve Penz Verified Member Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 This thread makes me happy for a couple reasons. It has allowed me to learn from the discussion. And, he proved me wrong and thank goodness for that. I was not wrong to judge the way I did in the beginning but he has had a great year since not long after this post happened. It is nice to see his walk rate and strikeout rates trend positively. Hopefully he can stay this course and keep improving. Which player should I target next? Maybe there is a correlation. Here is one: I am so tired of Kohl Stewart and how he is not developing. Is it time to move on?
Ncgo4 Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 You maybe should have started with Stewart. LOL
big dog Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 My frustration with Eddie is not that he's a bad player- obviously he's not. It's that he could be a much better player if he just quit making the too-occasional stupid decisions. Just shave off the worst and most easily avoided bad outcomes. Don't quit being aggressive, but be sensible at the same time. And he should quit trying to steal bases until he has some idea what he's doing.
bird Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Rosario = AL Player of the week. 4 HR, 1.484 OPS. Yeah, but what was his WAA?
big dog Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Earlier in this thread I suggested bringing Granite up just to try and focus Eddie a little bit with some competition. So I checked the Rosario stat line from July 8, when Granite had his first game. Prior to July 8: 267 AB 16 BB 62 K 4 SB 5 CS .292 BA .468 SLG Since July 8: 104 AB 8 BB 20 K 1 SB 1 CS .308 BA .596 SLG I know, SSS yada yada. But still- walk rate is up, K rate is down, not stealing much at all, average is up, slugging is WAY up. Sure, it could be a coincidence. Or I could be a genius. Maybe both?
Doomtints Verified Member Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Yeah, but what was his WAA? SSS.

Mostly a continuation of a trend that had started after a terrible April.

Whatever caused the improvement is fine with me, as long as it sticks around.

In April, he sure wasn't performing like a third year major leaguer.
