Man, I hate that title so much......but whatever.

It's just opening the way for "Re-return of the Jedi" down the road.

I still don't know if I like The Force Awaken title because I'm still not sure exactly what it means.

Is it only about Rey's awakening? Meh, okay.

Is it about an actual reawakening of the Force as a cohesive, semi-sentient power that binds the galaxy together? Okay, that's kinda cool. I want to see where that's going.

So, no real opinion on this title yet. I'm curious to see where they're going with the series.

Oh, I'm also curious, Brock. The title just is "meh" to me.....

If the Force is also the dark side, hasn't it banded the galaxy together already? I think the Force, if truly some kind of positive collective, seems easily perverted. I don't really need some deep "this is how magic works" kind of movies, frankly, though. I'm not sure I care, except at times like this where there isn't a movie to watch.

Oh, the Force is absolutely the dark side as well, which was key to the prequels. The entire "balance of the Force" thing led to the wholesale slaughter of the Jedi Order.

Which is why I'm curious to see where they're going with all of this. Lucas opened the door to the Force being an active entity, not a passive thing that lets a few people jump really far and swing a light sword. The Force created Anakin with the purpose of wiping out the Jedi, which had come to dominate the galaxy in large numbers.

And it did it again with Luke and Leia, who supplanted Obi-Wan and Yoda. Then the dark side was wiped out, creating another imbalance.

It appears that in the third trilogy, the dark side has once again taken hold and created yet another imbalance. Is the awakening another proactive attempt by the Force to maintain balance?

That's why I'm intrigued by The Force Awakens title.

And even Rogue One could be read in that fashion... The scene where Chirrut, a non Force user, taps into the Force could be read two ways:

1. Despite being Force insensitive, his faith allowed a momentary glimpse into that power at a crucial time.

2. The Force itself took hold of everyone around him to fulfill a greater need for the galaxy at large, the involvement of Luke and Leia in their journey to balance the Force.

So that title sounds a bit ominous. I guess Jedi is also plural but sounds like a 'last stand at the Alamo' kind of thing.

Logan looks like it's going to be a Western, maybe that will be the trend for franchises in 2017.

But man, Jedi is such a strong BRAND, I can't see Disney giving that up.

That was my first thought as well. It's so iconic that I can't imagine either Disney or anyone they hire will want to get rid of it.

But hey, they already dropped the Sith, or at least they appeared to drop them.

Which is kind of disappointing. I think the ying-yang of Jedi/Sith is pretty great.

The Force Awakens had so few references to Episodes 1-3 that I'm not surprised that the Sith was kind of left out of the film. The term Sith wasn't used at all in the original trilogy, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep everything previous to A New Hope vague at best.

In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that Disney has at least had discussions about re-making Episodes 1-3 sometime in the future including big plot and character changes which would fix continuity issues. If they want to crank out a new film each year it's an idea that would make sense, even if it's way down the road.

On that note, I know it's always about money, but I've always been disappointed that Hollywood remakes good movies so often when what they should be doing is remaking bad movies that were good ideas and had potential but ended up being a mess.

I don't know if it was a conscious decision to ignore the prequels or a result of them being set 50 years previous to The Force Awakens.

Either way, I'm sad that Sith no longer play a role. While lots of things about the prequels sucked, the Sith were a good idea, a limited shadow organization that showed incredible patience to strike back at their enemies.

I really earned today's geek card with that post.

Heh, I was about to quote it and make some kind of snarky comment about you writing a doctoral thesis on Star Wars

The sad thing is that I could write a doctoral thesis on Star Wars.

Don't even get me started on Anakin and his role in the galaxy, as dictated by the Force. He's essentially an abused foster child who is manipulated by everyone and everything around him with the sole purpose of fracturing galactic society. He was engineered to destroy everything.

He's essentially a tool of destruction and only after he kills billions does he get to absolve himself and just die.

Sucks for him.

Yeah, but the worst part is having your character played by Hayden Christensen.
