Yeah for marketing purposes, as in, "Hey, who here likes the Dodgers?! Well you're going to love us because we're basically the football Dodgers! Do you guys like us now? Wait, do you want us to actually change our name to the Football Dodgers? I think that name kind of sounds like we're the kid in school who is too afraid to catch the ball, but if you guys super promise to support us and not the Rams, we'll do it!"

I don't get why they aren't sharing the Rams stadium going forward....if they stay in LA.

I think they are, they are just playing in two different stadiums until the Rams stadium is built. The Chargers will be renting from the Rams is my understanding.

 

Maybe scheduling at Memorial Stadium doesn't quite work for two NFL teams in addition to the Trojans currently. Or maybe USC said they'd prefer not to have two NFL teams tearing up their field as the turf would never get a week off to rejuvenate.

I don't get it.  It's not like LA embraced the Rams returning.

As a long-time resident of both SD and LA, I know the thinking behind this move:

 

The Spanos family are giant, raging, burning ******* ****face pieces of ****.

 

It's as simple as that. They're one of the worst owners in sports and have been waging a hot/cold war with San Diego since I moved there in 1992.

Unlikely, as pretty much every Chargers fan I know wants to Mussolini-in-a-public-square the entire Spanos family right now.

 

And they've wanted to do this for a few decades now.

Sterling doesn't own the Clippers anymore which suggests the Spanos family doesn't have to own the Chargers forever either. Anything can happen, I'm just guessing that in the not too distant future the Spanos family may find that renting from the Rams in a luke warm LA market isn't nearly as profitable as they hoped.

 

And if they are sold, it probably wouldn't be surprising if someone pops up who wants to be viewed as a white knight with grand plans to bring the Chargers back home. Goodwill from one of the countries largest metropolitan areas is probably worth quite a fortune itself. I'd guess that if the time comes, Kronke will be more than amenable to "helping" them leave LA and reclaiming the market all for himself.

Sure, it's possible they sell but I don't think we'll see San Diego pay into a new stadium. They're pissed, and rightfully so.

Maybe, but that was the thought when the Oilers left Houston and the Browns left Cleveland. I don't recall if there was any kind of political hustle for new stadiums when the Colts left Baltimore or when the Cardinals left St. Louis, but in all four cases either local grass roots efforts were made to get a team again or another business person quickly realized the financial benefits of filling the void and the NFL was more than happy to join the push to put a team where an existing fanbase was accustomed to and was ready to embrace a team.

 

Baltimore was the only city to have to wait more than a decade but even their wait was only 12 years.

Not a good start to the off-season. Matt Kalil's agent was on Paul Allen's show this morning and said:

"I think it's going to be difficult for [the Vikings] to re-sign Kalil," Baratz told KFAN. "I don't think he'll end up here."

No doubt. Then again I'm always on board to draft a QB in the middle rounds every year until a franchise QB is found. Not a big fan of selecting a QB and handing him the keys for 3 years until they sink or swim.

Brady

Roethlisberger

Rodgers

Ryan

Prescott

Wilson

 

I think only 1 (Ryan) of those guys was picked in the top half of the first round.

 

I'm not a fan of locking up Bradford.

I think he's just good enough to keep you competitive, but not good enough to win Super Bowls.

The salary of a franchise QB limits keeping a core around him.

That means you have to either find one that you believe can be a perennial SB threat, or cycle through guys on rookie deals and be able to afford a good core around them.

I am not surprised. I feel bad for the kid. He seems like a solid person with a good head on his shoulders.

 

I know there is a lot of skepticism on whether Teddy could be an above average QB. I believed he was going to turn out to be pretty good and I thought he was going to take that big step forward in the 2016 season (note: I thought that before the season started and OL went to Shiznit).

 

Now he has mountains to climb that seem insurmountable. I wish him the best and good fortune!

Look at the franchise QB's in the playoffs this year-

Rodgers

Ryan

Prescott
