Patience is a Virtue

Buxton was the number 1 prospect in baseball for two years. No one compared him to Trout. Other top prospects seem to produce when they come up (Lindor and Correa being two examples that were not college players like Bryant).....so, no, it isn't about the media, or about anything other than, so far, he's been bad up in the majors. Really bad. I don't get why we should be anything other than disappointed so far.

Buxton was also promoted way too early.  Lost season in 2014, and hot month in AA in 2015 and he gets an early ad to the 40 man.  That was a mistake.  He wasn't ready.  I would fault the Twins for bringing him up too quickly, and I'll fault them again for not having a backup plan for him in 2016.

But to use some counter examples, that Sano kid was pretty good when he got called up.  That Kepler kid has been pretty good as well.  That Duffey kid did well also.  He wasn't even highly regarded.   The reality is that some are ready and some aren't.  I don't think we are in a situation where all of our guys just fail when they make it up here.  We definitely have a problem with the team being somewhat impatient with guys (in the case of hitters bringing them up to soon, and in pitchers, sending them down too quick).

Well, I think Buxton was ready, and he murdered AAA when sent back..... and he thinks he is ready - just ask him. He just is mentally failing, and making bad decisions.

What is Kepler hitting so far? .238? Kinda what Dozier hits. And Plouffe. And they are called pretty good by some fans - and some will write pages about how one is even an all-star. Sure, add all the stats and streaks you like, and it is still what it is. I have hope that he will become something to rave about, but he has to be on the team, and not yo-yo'd up and down to AAA. Twins' fans seem conditioned to think that .238 is pretty good. That is about what Sano is hitting, too, this year. But for an outfielder, it isn't even close to replacement level yet. I don't think the problem is bringing them up. I think the yo-yo syndrome is hurting them. It doesn't matter if one can eat up AAA in the end. It only matters what they can sustain in the Show.

The context matters, a little bit. A 23 year old and a 29 year old might be contributing roughly the same offense in the here and now, and still the former deserves a little more enthusiasm due to the potential for further growth, and is not just an endorsement of the status quo.

Kepler's BA of .238 kind of loses it's negative feeling (for those who care a lot about that stat) when his OPS is over .800.  More room to grow.  Also his BABIP is about 40 points lower than league average.

I know I'm in the minority here but I still don't believe this is the case. Yes, the deck is stacked again Meyer. Yes, he's getting old in a hurry.

But Meyer's problem isn't performance, it's health (and the Twins jerking him around left and right but that's another topic for a different thread).

Maybe Meyer is a permanent injury risk. It happens.

But some guys are injury risks until one day they're... Not. And vice versa is equally true.

So I'm going to keep holding out hope that Meyer gets it together and stays on the field before I write him off entirely.

Add me in that minority group, since Meyer is the only Twins' pitcher in the organization with true Ace potential.  Mater of fact, I'd fire every coach and front office person up and down the organization before I gave up on Meyer.

It doesn't have to be either/or.

I think this is the offseason we find a way to get Mauer off this roster.  In fact, I'd make it priority #1.

I double like this post.

Yup. Plenty of hope. Timely power and key hits, however few they may be so far. I like the kid. Hope hope.
