Has anyone ever tried MLB.TV?

Hi everyone, new here, looking forward to chatting about the Twins :)

I just wanted to ask for your opinion - My friend signed up to MLB.TV in order to get a discount on watching MLB games.

Did anyone ever try it? It seems like a good deal, as more people sign up, you get a bigger discount - http://goo.gl/N6G1jl

BTW at the moment, this group is already on max discount so anyone who joins gets it.

I didn't have cable most of my life, until now working for  a local cable company. I used to get it every year, and is easily worth the money. Best money i've spent most years, though I live in South Dakota, so the Twins were blacked out. However, was still worth it to watch every other baseball game that season. So, i guess the quick answer is yes it's worth every penny.

I live in MN so the Twins are blacked out. But, for the last 3 years, without cable, I have purchased it for the love of watching good baseball. Well worth the money if you want to watch Super Stars or great pitching matchups. Also, even if your team is "blacked out" you can watch the game 15 min after it concludes.

You can watch the full game after it is over? I never knew that.

I plan on getting a subscription again once I move to Denver in August. Definitely still worth it even if you can't watch the Twins live on it.

I have had it for years.  I live in Colorado and MLB.TV is great for me.  You can watch live or use the DVR function to start at the beginning if it has already started.  Sometime the DVR jumps around on a computer, so definately have spoilers toggled so you don't see the score.  The Apple TV app is pretty good and has good quality picture.  If you have decent internet, that will make a huge difference.  I typically get stuck with 7-8 GB per sec.  This works, but faster is better.  Overall a good deal, but every year I tell myself that if Ryan/Pohlads don't put some more money into the team, I am going to dump the package. Why am I spending money when they won't give me a decent product to watch.

You can actually watch a "Condensed Game" too, which shows the final pitch of every plate appearance and other key plays.  And actually, you don't even need a MLB.TV account to watch those, they are treated the same as highlight/recap videos and available to the public.

For example, yesterday's condensed game:

From the "Condensed Game" column on yesterday's Media Center page:

Yep, but only 90 minutes after the completion of the game.

How long do those stay on there?

I've had it for about 5 years. The image quality really depends on internet speed. I have Fiber so it's HD. Pretty phenomenal. However, the browser interface does tend to jump around when you try the DVR functions. The mlb.tv app for windows is pretty terrible. It often doesn't load, it skips, and it is rather basic. The playstation app is honestly the best for viewing. You can jump from event to event (hits, runs), skip to inning starts, etc.
I personally really like using the audio broadcasts while I work. The data stream for audio is very light so I don't mind streaming it away from wifi.

If you can find it for 50% off, I'd say it's worth it.

I live in MN, so if I buy the MLB.TV subscription for $80 or $100 or whatever it is, I can't watch the Twins on that?

I have this MLB via the At Bat app on my Iphone.  This year I bought an Apple TV and stream the games on TV.  I think it is a great app.  I live New Jersey and the Twins are only blacked out when playing the Yankees or occasionally the Mets or on Saturdays.  The full package (or better if you can get a discount, read the above posts) is well worth it for a season of baseball.  If I still lived in Minnesota and could not watch the Twins I would probably insist on the 50% discount before purchasing.

Also, national broadcast games (Fox on Saturday, and ESPN on Sunday night) are also blacked out based on the time the game starts.  That part is a bummer.  Keep in mind that post-season games are also not covered.

Dunno, at least a few days. I've gone back to watch games at least a week old, IIRC.

I suspect they stay there forever. There's no reason for them not to stay there forever.

Awesome! I guess I can watch tonight's game after all.

Correct, all of Minnesota is in the Twins "blackout zone" as well as parts of surrounding states.  Some folks get around this with a VPN or proxy, but now there are two legal method of streaming Twins games in-market, Sling and Vue:

Sling is particularly attractive at its $20/month price point -- you could use it just for the baseball season and only pay $120, comparable to the full season retail price of MLB.TV Premium ($110).

Or, if you or someone you know already has a cable/satellite subscription that includes Fox Sports North, you may be able to stream them through Fox Sports Go too:

FYI:  I use Sling and Fox Sports North is included for free.  Well, part of the Sling package     ;)

I've had the MLBTV Premium package for a few years now and love it. They reduced the price $20USD (due to a lawsuit result I believe) down to $109USD (Premium package). I have been able to watch a lot of the spring training games (SD) plus all of the regular seasons games in HD. The games are archived, plus condensed games are made, so if you happen to miss a game you can watch all the plays in a shorter amount of time. You can watch on or through pretty much any device that connects to the internet e.g. computer, phone, tablet, Playstation etc.

Until the next season starts.

Not true. You can go all the way back to opening day 2014 on MLB's media center page right now. Of course, your access to these archived full games ends with your subscription, although like I also noted, the condensed games are available to nonsubscribers too.
