Twins 2016: Schedule a tale of two halves

If you haven't looked at the Minnesota Twins, the scheduling went very odd.

In the first half of the season the Twins play ONLY 18 games against their biggest rivals in the Royals, Tigers and Indians

In the second half, the Twins play 39 of their 79 games against the Royals, Tigers, and Indians.

So look for a strong start to begin the season but the second half will make or break the year

Based on your post, is it your contention that the strongest AL teams reside in the AL Central?

You beat the Yankees and you gain a half game on KC, which may evaporate when they play.

You beat the Royals and you gain a full game on KC.

It does seem odd that over two thirds of the division games are in the second half.

Maybe our team will be firing on all cylinders by then.

Yeah, let's have it go that way.

IMHO this is the how the schedule should be for all of MLB. When there's a pennant race going on it's best for the teams involved to be playing each other as much as possible. Not only is there going to be more fan interest but the rosters will be more similar to the postseason rosters. That means late-season games will be a better measure of which team(s) deserve to advance to the postseason.

I think that's probably a good thing for the Twins, esp if you believe that the team we see in the second half will be better than the team we see in April.

Yeah, if you have a young team, you probably want your intra-divisional games to come later in the season. It's hard to imagine the Twins being a worse team in August than they were in April.

It is odd that the Royals get two days off (April 6 & 7) before the Twins come to town.  I don't know if i have ever seen two consecutive days off (other than the All Star break).
