He was in the closet in college and the pros but overheard a lot of homophobic talk that made him no longer want to play baseball. Pretty ****ty. Cardinals are looking into his story and will react accordingly.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Thanks for sharing. Obviously he wasn't much of a prospect, but being a Cardinals late round draftee is pretty good company, as far as late round draftees go. Sounds like he's looking for a front office job now, but he just turned 24. I'd hope the Cardinals would invite him back to play if he wants to try again, or at least release him to play elsewhere (assuming they still hold his rights).

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I'd "like" the OP, but that might send the wrong message. Hopefully something like this makes the players wake up, I hope he had friends who are now quite ashamed of themselves. If locker rooms are similar to when I was in school, group homophobia is much bigger issue than individual homophobia. I'd bet if you asked ten guys if they had a problem with a gay teammate 8 out of ten guys would say no if asked off the record and away from the team atmosphere. However when in a group the macho BS comes out and slurs start flying. Grow up guys.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Locker rooms are still one of the most backwards and immatures places around. It's sad it takes so much effort to change that and even more sad are the consequences on those that suffer it.
