Danny Santana: Outfielder?

Not only starts, he was pinch hitting at times down the stretch. 1-11 w/ a single and a walk as a pinch hitter.

Not surprised he was 1-11, but how on earth did he ever coax a walk?

My guess is it's a contingency as much as anything. Buxton gets hurt frequently and seriously, and who is the backup CF right now? I'd trust Santana over Rosario (speaking of no experience.) So in addition to keeping Byron on his toes they'll have an actual option in case he can't hit, gets hurt or otherwise fails. And it also results in in an improved utility skill set for Danny.

Actually rather pivotal, the next batter doubled him home as the tying run, in what proved to be the final Twins victory of 2015.

I remember that game--I was listening to the Spanish broadcast and the play by play guy was stunned.

 

Also for those of you who understand Spanish, Tony O is the color guy for many of the games. His timbre and accent are something like what would happen if one poured cement into a slushie machine

I don't know if I can watch this team if they trot out Sano, Arcia, and Santana in the outfield.  They better score three runs a game themselves, because their defense will give up two.

I got to watch some of D. Santana play both OF and SS in MLB.  I don't think there's much question that he's been better in CF and SS.  Sabermetrics be damned, Danny did OK as the year went on in 2014 in CF.  What other options did the Twins have at the time?  The options right now are Buxton, et and al.  His play at SS last year has sealed his fate:  CF or utility player.
