PMKI Verified Member Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 When August 1, 2012 comes around which current Twins players do you see not being on the roster?
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Capps will be gone, and probably Liriano too. If Pavano had been healthy and effective, I'd add him to the list, but I think his injury will cool interest, since he is a free agent at the end of the year - he probably can't add to a contender this year, so teams will wait to see how he bounces back and possibly offer him a contract after the year. I think there will be offers for Span and Willingham, but I'm not certain what we will be offered in return will be enough to justify a trade.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Off the 25-man roster (alphabetically) : Capps Casilla Fien Gray Liriano Morneau Pavano Span - PJ Walters, Parmelee and Blackburn return and some new blood as well
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Liriano and Capps traded. Oliveros, Walters, Blackburn, Hendriks, Parmelee back on. Deduno, DeVries, Gray or Fien off. Whatever injury replacements are needed.

jctwins Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 No way they move that many guysProlly true, but jr had his panties in a major wad on the radio show today. He sounded motivated to try and make something happen.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Off the 25-man roster (alphabetically) : CappsCasillaFienGrayLirianoMorneauPavanoSpan Do you really think they'll move that many, or is that a wish list. I doubt they would trade Morneau, although personally I am very open to the idea. I also doubt they will move Casilla, at least not mid-season.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I don't care to speculate too much on who will be on or off the roster on 8-1-12, but David Phelps will be on our roster at that time, being part of the Liriano trade to the Yanks for Phelps, Austin Romine, and Brandon Laird.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I don't care to speculate too much on who will be on or off the roster on 8-1-12' date=' but David Phelps will be on our roster at that time, being part of the Liriano trade to the Yanks for Phelps, Austin Romine, and Brandon Laird.[/quote'] Interesting. I had been thinking that a trade for Phelps, Romine and another piece made sense. Perhaps Laird, but I think Ryan would try to target an arm rather than a bat.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Yeah, I think Ryan will try, but this is the best of what he will get - speculatively.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I expect Span, Capps, and Liriano to be gone. If Pavano gets back and pitches effectively in August, they may trade him at the waiver deadline. Morneau's injury history, performance and contract probably make him untradeable.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Lirano Capps (or gone in August) Pavano (maybe someone will claim him in August) Blackburn back in July (then put on waivers in August) Valencia on waivers but no claim Toshi on waivers but no claim Span Casilla on waivers ion August Carroll on waivers in August but no claim Gray sent down P.J. sent back Deduno sent back surpirse, Morneau is traded
BrentMpls Provisional Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Liriano is think is a strong possibility, but I wouldn't be shocked if he stays. Span is another possibility, but I don't think there will be enough value for him.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Capps and Burton. Casilla. Pray for Pavano as well, but that is unlikely. Danny Valencia can be involved in a trade as well.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Sell low candidates: Morneau, Pavano, Valencia. Don't trade them because they bring back only a fraction of their real value. Sell high candidate: Willingham--don't trade him if you want FAs to come to Minnesota. However, I can't see him sustaining his slugging for the whole year. I think that if the Twins can get fair value for Liriano, Span and Capps, they should pull the trigger on all three.
spideyo Provisional Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Off the 25-man roster (alphabetically) : CappsCasillaFienGrayLirianoMorneauPavanoSpan -PJ Walters, Parmelee and Blackburn return and some new blood as wellBetween his big contract and injury history, Morneau won't draw an offer worth taking. Pavano won't be traded while he's still on the DL (which he probably will be until August). Fien and Gray aren't going to be sent off unless they completely implode. They've both been adequate, but not good enough to draw trade interest. There isn't really anyone beating down the door for a bullpen spot. Why risk losing a player for nothing that is doing their job just to give a kid who hasn't earned a spot yet an extended tryout? Remember, any of the guys down in the minors could be back up here Sept. 1 anyways without having to throw someone away. And why in the bloody hell do people think Casilla is going anywhere? He isn't drawing trade interest (mostly because he isn't playing on a day-to-day basis). There is ZERO reason to DFA him. Who's progress is he impeding? Who is going to replace him? How is getting rid of him (or Carroll for that matter) going to help the team right now? What harm is it possibly going to do to keep him and Carroll where they are until the end of the season?
Boom Boom Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I'm pretty sure that Liriano, Capps, and Span will be traded. The Twins will try to get rid of Pavano post-trade deadline but I'm not sure they'll be able to pull it off with his bad shoulder. Casilla will probably be dumped.
PMKI Verified Member Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 If Liriano is not traded I will be shocked.

There is no advantage in any way to just dump these guys mid-season.
