Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Schwarber makes Arcia look fine and polished. Not sure what it means that a supposed progressive organization like the Cubs ran Schwarber out to the outfield in a playoff series.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Time to start the contest: who will Kyle Schwarber being DHing for in 2017? The current CBA is complete in 2016. DH in both leagues will be addressed before he even hits arbitration.

Not sure what it means that a supposed progressive organization like the Cubs ran Schwarber out to the outfield in a playoff series. It means that a player is judged on defense and offense, and they rolled the dice on his defense (which didn't kill them in the regular season), and lost the roll. It has no larger meaning.
Hrbowski Verified Member Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Anyone who is gay, lesbian, bi, or trans would be the ones making the person in the Murphy costume fearful for his/her own safety. Not many players get support from Westboro Baptist Church. Daniel Murphy does, and I don't think that's a badge of pride to wear.Daniel Murphy doesn't support Westboro Baptist, so what you are saying is ridiculous. The way you are talking you are acting like you would be ok with a LGBT person harming somebody for wearing a Daniel Murphy jersey. Either you should have been more careful about what you said, or you are fine with violence.

I never said violence would be okay whatsoever. You should perhaps be more careful with the inferences you're making.

Very stupid (it's not a lifestyle or a choice)B. A bigot Again I ask you: What post were you reading? Ben never suggested violence towards his fans or anything of the nature, you seem to be pulling up a made up argument out of thin air to somehow defend Murphy and his thoughts that frankly have no place in 2015.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Let's just stick to baseball for now. Whatever you think of Murphy as a person ... I still think his home run splurge during the off-season was worthy of a wow. (And no, I don't support his views whatsoever, but that's a discussion for another thread.)

I apologize if that derailed the discussion. It's just crazy that in the spring, the discussion was how many million Murphy cost himself with his comments and subsequent "mistreatment" of Billy Bean, and now the conversation has completely flipped into how many million he's made for himself in the offseason. It's just a great reminder of how fickle the world of baseball, and sports in general, truly is.

It's a subject of interest to many and I wasn't aware of the situation with Mr. Murphy. I'd love to comment on the morality and the politics of it but that's for another time and place. It's very noteworthy is how something like baseball can be a common ground of unity for people of so many different persuasions. I have an acquaintance who is a very good baseball friend who is a diametric opposite of me politically. I haven't seen him for years but if and when we cross paths again we'll pick up right where we left off as good friends united by baseball.

I don't think anything major was derailed as it's not a very active topic anyways. I think the Murphy stuff is relevant now that everyone is tripping all over themselves talking about how great he has become. Back to baseball: It will be funny when he goes 2-29 in the World Series.
