OK-what now?

The Twins have brought the excitement of a pennant chase back to this area after several years of futility-even if we are only talking about the wild card. It got me thinking about what would happen in the following scenario if the season played out like this:

Twins- (21-17)

Orioles-(22-16)

Rays-(22-16)

Astros-(15-21)

Rangers-(20-19)

Angels-(21-17)

Yankees-(15-23)

Blue Jays-(15-23)

The result of these finishes, which is not out of the question in any of the examples, would be an 8 way tie with 84-78 records. Does anyone know what would happen next? Would the World Series be played around Thanksgiving?

Yes, but due to the general determination to keep everyone and everything all tied up, it wouldn't be over until Christmas. :)

An 8-team single elimination tournament could be played in three days.

It would be one of the greatest things to happen ever in baseball!

Remember though, that would mean ties for the AL East and West divisions, so they'd have to sort that out first, no?

Off topic slightly, but IMO this shows that Toronto, Astros and The Yanks are near locks to make the playoffs. As far as the rest goes, I like kinda like our chances. 20-25%

At this point, the Twins are only a half game back from the Rangers. With the pretty poor play of many of the AL teams, I think the Twins can squeak into that second wildcard.

But then it's basically RIP when we play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the one game playoff. Or, if the Blue Jays get that wildcard, we face David Price. Yikes.

Well, that's why they play the games. A chip and a chair. They put their pants on one leg at a time, too. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. 90 ft from home to first for both teams. Stranger things have happened.

Give me a one game playoff against the Yankees instead of a 5 game series any day of the week. The Twins had leads late in the game each of the games this year at NYY and several times in the past at NYY in the playoffs, just takes one non choke to fix things.

Toronto? Yikes, maybe Duffey could get his ultimate revenge and shut them down for a game :)

Yes, and then what happens to the two teams that lose those playoffs games? Would they then be eliminated since they would have one more loss than the other five teams? That doesn't sound fair, IMHO.

It seems to me that you would now need a six team playoff to produce the wild card and the second wild card.

Team A would play Team B, Team C would play Team D, and Team E would play Team F. With 3 winners, I don't know where to go from this. Any ideas? Sounds like a job for Parker.

One game at a time. And, in the original scenario, another game at a time. And another. And another.

What now? Get Berrios up immediately and make sure he can be available if the Twins do make the post season...... if nothing else, but out of the bullpen. Santana is not looking like he can help this team get into the playoffs, and he is ineligible for the post season, anyway.

Here's my attempt to sort out the scenario:

AL East champ: 4 teams, two days to crown a champ.

AL West champ: 3 teams, draw lots for one team to get a bye, other two play, winner plays bye team for division crown.

Then you have six teams and two wild card spots. Draw lots for two byes. Other four teams play, winners advance to play the bye teams. Winners of those games are the two wild card winners, and they advance to play each other in the actual Wild

Card game. It's like an 8-team draw with two byes.

It would take 9 games and four days, I think. And in this scenario if the Twins lucked out and got a bye, they would only need one win to advance to the WC.
