In fairness, if you are not going to have him up next year (ugh), and are worried about team control more than being good next year, sure, that makes sense I guess.

 

Here is a list of the elite prospects not called up this year, or back in the minors:

It's getting exhausting ripping every decision that TR makes, but he deserves every rip towards him. Are we ever going to get away from this gray area of not contending, yet not rebuilding?

 

Doesn't matter what side of the fence you were on before at the deadline, win now or wait; This is a terrible move to still employ Robinson and demote him.

If Hicks hadn't gotten that weird batting practice injury earlier in the year, Buxton might not have been up at all to this point - I think he's going to be back up in September.

 

Hicks and Rosario have earned their playing time, and Hunter has been, ahem, Grandfathered into his position. So, that leaves Buxton waiting for playing time at the MLB level. He can rake at AAA for a month and then he'll be up before you know it.

It stops the service time clock. I guess that is a good thing, however if it's never going to be an issue, then it is silliness.

Wasn't his service time clock never an issue to begin with? That is why he wasn't on the roster April 1st? This is just so ****ing stupid.

 

If Robinson is playing 3 times a week, why the hell can Buxton not find a spot?

 

It's like Ryan is trying to do everything in his power to get a higher draft pick or something.

Jesus, you guys act like he ripped it up in the pros before he was injured. Do we not remember he hit .189 with 15 K's in 37 AB? Let him get his feet back under him, evaluate, and then bring him back.

Or, we act like, he can learn here, why keep him down?

 

How long would you need to evaluate him to know if he's good? 1 week? 2 weeks? 4 weeks?

Much Ado About Nothing.  Buxton was slated to play in AAA for awhile anyway.  Rehab assignments are time-limited--either he is returned to "active duty" for the Twins--or he gets optioned.  This opens a slot for someone who either will play or is a bench player anyway.  Buxton needs to play everyday--and that would not have happened with the Twins--so Minor Leagues it will be!  

 

It won't alter the Twins season meaningfully anyway--they will lose early and often with or without him.  At least he won't have to wallow in the (bile) with the Twins for awhile.

Given how long Buxton was out and how much he struggled with MLB pitching, this is the right move.

 

I don't like it, but it's the right move. Wrist injuries are a bitch and he's going to need several games to get his timing back at the plate.

You've seen how guys often play after a wrist injury, right? It's ugly. Their timing is screwed up, they don't have full strength in their wrist, and they're just a mess at the plate.

 

I want to see Buxton in Minnesota as much as anyone but giving him two weeks in the minors to get back up to speed isn't going to further sink this already-sunk season, nor is calling him up today going to restore the season.

 

With that said, if Byron isn't in Minnesota and playing every day in September, I'm going to be pissed.

He was struggling, albeit in 11 games.  He gets hurt, send him to AAA for two weeks.  That is reasonable to me.

He has struggled at every level he moved to in the beginning. This was nothing new. I am not complaint about rehab in general, but I am wondering about the lack of consistency used in handling players. And about a seemingly endless effort to maintain the least amount of talent on the bench at any one time.

Mike, for me I see people doing a lot of slicing and dicing to show how good a hitter is.  You know, over the past couple weeks he did this, blah, blah.

 

Show me a season like Hicks had at AAA:  .333 BA, .403 OBP, .523 SLG and a .927 OPS then Buxton is ready to go!
