Food and other such holidays

Once you land on Park Place, you're supposed to dump your SO, find an Italian restaurant, order pasta with vodka sauce, and listen to the Beatles! Easy!

I think there's a Billy Joel song about this...

We hit the jackpot today...

Today is National Pizza Day! We've been over this before... I could eat pizza on a near daily basis. Lots of choices on where to get pizza today... Support your local pizza shop!

Today is also National Bagel Day! Don't eat bagels nearly as much as I did up north... These days it's more like a treat, as there are other delicious things to eat in the morning like kolaches, breakfast tacos, etc.

On this day in 1971, Satchel Paige became the first player from the segregated Negro Leagues to be selected for the Hall of Fame!

Also, on this day in 1950, former Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy became the face of the "Red Scare"... Are you a COMMUNIST?! Joseph McCarthy thought so, and made sure everyone else in the US knew you were.

I've made my feelings on pizza fairly well known in these parts. True Italian style, thin crust pizza without a red sauce is my only go tos in the pizza world due to a chronic health issue. Forget the NY vs Chicago style ... they are nothing more than American bastardizations (even if really good). And now there is a place in my neighborhood that caters to my tastes and needs. These nova pizzas are the real deal! :)

Ever get a yardstick size pizza there before?

They haven't been open that long and I've only actually eaten there once when I tried the Signature Nova. An enthusiastic two thumbs up for me! :)

But I'd give the yardstick a go in the right situation ... i.e. with a group of friends and not solo dining.

As if taking something good, and making it different and still good, is a bad thing.....

Lol ... was that directed at me? I mean, just because you cover a GOOD song doesn't make it a good cover. ;)

Mushrooms, black olives, extra cheese, and Italian sausage (although I really can't and shouldn't so don't often eat greasy, spicy meats anymore).

And that's why there are so many bands, and wines, and food styles...

Individual likes but still a universal language. :)

I genuinely like and listen to all the songs I posted in your queries on FB or I wouldn't have posted them. I didn't post anything just because it fit the criteria you made. But I also know that many of them won't be met with the same enthusiasm I have for them. Still, I like what you are doing because I'm listening to a lot of other things I wouldn't normally listen to, or hadn't heard before, or refreshed my memory/enthusiasm. The 'styles' of some of them wouldn't necessarily compel me to add them to 'my' lists, but I love the exercise nonetheless.

I assume you are familiar with Walk off the Earth....and I know you like Pentatonix. But WoTE is fun, imo, and their videos are great.

We could definitely share a pizza someday. I concur with these toppings.

Also:

Pepperoni, mushroom, green olive

Buffalo chicken, red onion, black olives, feta cheese

Maybe only put the sausage on half and add a veggie (like artichoke) on the other half. But I would say 'no' to green olive and hell no to buffalo chicken. If I can't handle the spice of Italian sausage, I definitely can't handle the spice of buffalo chicken.

I like so many different kinds of pizza!

Mostly we have:

pepperoni, mushroom, random stuff

or

use greens as the "sauce", squash, onion, sometimes prosciutto

My wife used to make a stuffed pizza with sausage and mushrooms, but we cut back on items with extra bread.....sigh.

So, greens instead of sauce ... like a salad pizza? I am definitely intrigued. And prosciutto is awesome.

They aren't salady....more like cooked first, or a very thin layer, so it is either like sauce (cooked), or just a thin layer of greens under the other toppings. Definitely, 100%, not like salad.

Even Bob Dylan says Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Around the Watchtower is better. And everyone knows Jimi's version of the song is about waiting for the pizza delivery guy bringing a Chicago style pie.

I submit that artichoke is the most severely underrated pizza topping. Onions may be a close second.

Well, I liked that for the artichoke, but I'd alter the onion to carmelized onion.

Heh ... likes cats, pizza the way I do, the Twins ... Dinger, it's getting scary ... are you the male me? (I get to say it that way instead of me being the female you because I was born first. :) )

From my science marching buddies:

'147 years ago today, President Grant authorized the creation of the National Weather Service.'

I believe much pizza will be consumed after the march.

Happy 208th, Charles Darwin.

Back in the good old days when I was going to start going for a graduate degree in The History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at the U 0f M, we used a biography of Darwin by Adrian Desmond and James Moore, simply titled "Darwin." It was quite comprehensive, nice historiography, and also just a very good piece of writing.

Now I just noticed this, by the same author tandem, and will have to hunt down a copy.
