Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 Today is national chocolate candy day.......
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Today is an important day BACON day.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Meh. I don't mind bacon, as its own thing, fried to a crisp along side some eggs. But I hate that it's in everything you try and order nowadays. I don't want bacon on my burgers, in my sandwiches (I'm not even that big a fan of BLTs anymore), and in my salads.

I don't even know how to react to such blasphemy, frankly.

I like crispy bacon, but there is such a thing as too crispy. I love that perfect in between of crispy outsides, and a little chewy inside. Turkey bacon's not half bad either!
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Turkey bacon's not half bad either! You're right.....its all bad. And get bacon out of my ice cream and we'll be fine.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Did you miss me while I was in PR? Today is national milk day. For my soon to be 20 year old, every day is MILK DAY!
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 It didn't feel right to start up this thread after I returned from California without you Mike. Even the first week of the new year it felt like this on the thread..
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Pretty boring national days the next week......but popcorn is coming up.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Pretty boring national days the next week......but popcorn is coming up.You guys missed a good one in Chicago yesterday. "No pants subway ride" Day. Yes, it's a thing. It was too cold so I didn't go out to ride the subways to check it out. And, well, eww. I'd need to bring my Chlorix wipes with me before I sat anywhere.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Happy Monday. Today is National Winnie-the-Pooh Day. As a toddler I was known as Tigger, because I loved to bounce on any chair. Still do from time to time. That also resulted in me getting 3 sets of stitches on my face before my 3rd birthday.... Today is also National Peking Duck Day. I've had roasted and seared duck a few times, and the times I've had it I remember it tasting good. More importantly, today is MLK Day. Wish I was in a profession to get the day off and golf...
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Ooooou ... Peking Duck ... so yum! If it weren't so frikken cold out, I'd hop on over to Chinatown for some of that. Pooh ... love Pooh ... Cottleston Pie!
biggentleben Verified Member Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 My favorite cartoon character above all was Eeyore, with Garfield a close second. Pooh stories could always use more Eeyore.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Today is National Popcorn Day! Little did I know how many flavors popcorn can be.. What's the best flavor that you've tried?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Today is National Popcorn Day! Little did I know how many flavors popcorn can be.. What's the best flavor that you've tried?Garrett's caramel crisp popcorn. THE best! Of those I've tried. I'm not a fan of the Chicago mix ... a mixed back of cheese and caramel crisp. It's okay, but I'd rather just have the caramel crisp.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 I love popcorn. Of all kinds. Especially when my son makes it, lots of oil and salt* compared to when my wife makes it. *edited, no idea why I put "butter" in there first.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I will say the worst flavored popcorn I've tasted is Dill Pickle. My god that was too sweet...
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 It's too cold to go up the street to Garrett's so will have to make do with what's in the vending machine ...
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 We've got a couple of goodies today.....Today is National Buttercrunch Day! Toffee covered in chocolate or topped with almonds sounds like a great treat to me. Today is also National Cheese Lover's Day! Maybe Always will come out of the woodwork to celebrate with us today. There's way more cheeses that I like than cheeses I don't like. However, I will say one that I do not care for is Blue Cheese...It's also National DJ Day... And really, who cares....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 Am I supposed to celebrate cheese, or people who love cheese? I think that one is badly named.....

biggentleben Verified Member Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 My uncle sells cheeses for Sartori, so there are always good cheese options at family gatherings. My wife, however, is lactose intolerant, so I have had to learn to stomach non-dairy varieties.

In many ways it's the King of cheese in how complex it is. I found starting with a good crumbly one was a good introduction and a way to build a taste for it, like a good English Stilton. After that some of the creamier ones are less intimidating. And I agree, just say no to DJ day.

I was turned off by it when I went to a restaurant and got a lettuce wedge topped with blue cheese. It was way too strong to handle, and I've basically switched to ranch ever since.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 We have a good one to end the week on...Today is National Blonde Brownie Day! A nice little curve ball from a normal brownie... I can get into that.
