twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Ok wait, weren't we talking about anchovies a couple of weeks ago? This is starting to remind me of Terry Ryan threads..
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 We missed it? Don't tell me we also missed National Popcorn Day? Oh the humanity!! Well, that is "international" sushi day.....which I assume is the same here. popcorn, lmc..... January 19, plan ahead. I suggest the popcorns from the Boy Scouts.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Ok wait, weren't we talking about anchovies a couple of weeks ago? This is starting to remind me of Terry Ryan threads..HUNDREDS of years we've used anchovies as a source of food, and only 1 good way to use them (on pizza)? That's the definition of mediocrity. When have anchovies ever been aggressive and acquired an ace level food source to team up with them? Anchovies are past their time, and need to go.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Pretty close to a TR thread??
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 BTW, I'm spatchcocking the turkey this year. Still trying to decide if I'll dry brine or not, but I'm making this: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/southwestern-turkey-with-garlic-ancho-chili-paste-and-gravy-803 Made it a few years ago in a nuwave oven, which we no longer own......so I'm trying something new this year.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Pretty close to a TR thread??Fire the anchovies? And yes, every day is sushi day. I've had it for Thanksgiving, and for Christmas.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 We've got a few fine choices today....Today is National Parfait Day. Big fan of that with fruit, ice cream, and a dash of yogurt - mix it all together and bam! A tasty treat. Today is also National Tie One On Day. If you're like me, you need to get your mind out of the gutter. The description is pretty sexist, where they celebrate the women wearing aprons preparing thanksgiving meals. I'm a guy who will gladly throw on an apron and get to work preparing a meal. Most importantly, it's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. My favorite choice, is National Blase' Day. So, like, whatever man. Aaron Hicks was traded? Meh. Byoung-Ho Pak still hasn't signed with the Twins? Bleh. I'm over it.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Most importantly, it's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This should be every day.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 This should be every day.Yeah ... when I read that it's a day ... I'm like ... What!? One day!? And then sad that it even needs to be a day at all.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Yeah it really should be common sense, instead of making it a day... October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month if that helps... Even so, just don't do it. And the people that do those sorts of things, are the scum of the earth. Scorching hot take.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 I do like a good parfait. And yes, every day should be no violence to anyone day...... I am actually pretty blase about sports right now......not sure I care much who wins and loses anymore. It is definitely down to the Vikings and Twins, and even those are waning.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 BTW, I'm spatchcocking the turkey this year.Dude. Seriously. Clean it up. This is a family friendly site.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Dude. Seriously. Clean it up. This is a family friendly site. It's such a better word than butterflying, isn't it?

It is definitely down to the Vikings and Twins, and even those are waning. Yeah I'm with you on that. I learned my lesson after the 2009 Vikings season that I'll never fully invest my emotions in that franchise again. There are plenty of sports to watch this time of year, but I could care less about basketball, and my passion for hockey is dwindling now that I'm gone from the "State of Hockey"
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 We've got a couple of doozies today. Today is National Mousse Day. Definitely a fan of chocolate mousse for dessert after a nice dinner. Today is also Cyber Monday. So buy your gifts online for those that didn't do Black Friday. Today is also National Stay Home Because You're Well Day. To that I say hahahahahahahahaha in my dreams.....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 My wife makes an incredible mousse with tofu, just awesome.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 This whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday thing is getting ridiculous, it's turning into the whole Boxing Day phenomenon from about 25 years ago. Boxing Day used to be one day and then it morphed into a week and now an entire month, Black Friday is next. Christmas will just ultimately be engulfed by retail madness on both sides eventually, if it hasn't already. On another note, I like chocolate mousse and moose sausage........not at the same time.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I have a question for you guys. Thus far no one has been overly helpful and have only resorted to informing me that they're having a conversation with someone named Ebenezer Scrooge when to be honest I couldn't care less who else they're texting and never bothered to say that I'm only distractedly listening to them while reading a Twins Daily thread on the merits (or lack thereof) of Terry Ryan. But to get directly (or indirectly) to the point, why on earth does everyone spend $x on y different family members when they could just spend $xy on themselves? Then you wouldn't have the trouble of returning unwanted gifts that you pretended to be enthralled over, etc. etc. You'd get something you really wanted. And instead of getting y $x presents, you could get anything within the price range of $xy without losing anything other than one massive headache.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Because this is supposed to be a time of giving......not getting.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 My wife makes an incredible mousse with tofu, just awesome. If it doesn't have peanut butter in it, yuck. Kidding. I like tofu ... when it's prepared well ... but I don't think I'd put it in mousse. I mean, how do you do that? Instead of egg yolks? What???? Why the need to do that? Unless you are trying to make a vegan mousse, and then you'd have to find a substitute for the cream, too. And then, well, maybe you make your chocolate mousse with tofu and carob? Don't invite me over to your house for dessert. Or better yet, let me bring the dessert.
ashbury Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Boxing Day used to be one day and then it morphed into a week and now an entire month,The day needs to get back to its roots. Strike a little fear into shoppers' hearts and they won't be mobbing the malls quite so much, innit?
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Because this is supposed to be a time of giving......not getting. But the point is, we only give because we'll also receive. And if it really is about giving, not getting, why don't we all donate this $xy to someone who really needs it rather than spending it on...well, I'll just say it...junk?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 But the point is, we only give because we'll also receive. And if it really is about giving, not getting, why don't we all donate this $xy to someone who really needs it rather than spending it on...well, I'll just say it...junk?Um ... you only give to receive? Then yes, by all means, spend on yourself whatever you would've spent on others. If what you are trying to get at that maybe some of the commercialism bothers you, and you are buying more 'stuff,' and it doesn't feel sincere enough for you, then try making donations to various organizations in the name of the persons you would ordinarily buy 'stuff' for. Or instead of buying something, make something for everyone on your list.

Probably hitting the downtown Christmas area before the fancy restaurant on Saturday.

Or instead of buying something, make something for everyone on your list.Haha...you seem to be missing the point. I'll stop joking around and make myself clear. No, I don't give to receive. I just wonder how many people would really keep on giving if they didn't receive in return for their efforts, despite the fact that everyone insists it's a holiday centered around giving. Also, I love my family and friends and like to give them presents. But I think too many people wait until Christmas to give out of selfishness, however subconscious. And if you give a present for no reason other than that you love someone, the recipient isn't going to feel like they need to return the favor. And to be honest, taking the recipient's point of view, while I enjoy getting presents at Christmas and will give a big smile and hug to the person who gives it to me, I never feel so happy and grateful as I do when someone surprises me with something on August 13th just because they love me. So yeah, I'd say it's the commercialism that bothers me...though I prefer the word materialism in this instance. You know what I mean? No New Year's Day to celebrate...No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away...
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I'm going to take your rant to heart always and refuse to give anything to Miss Vanimal for Valentine's Day. That day is materialism at its worst. You think that will go well?

That day is materialism at its worst. You think that will go well? Don't try to convince me that you're capable of taking anything to heart until you can prove that you have one. And I'll tell you what you're going to do. You're going to get off Twins Daily and text Miss Vanimal right now and tell her you love her. Unless indeed you're both home from work already, in which case you'll tell her to her face. Then you can come back and tell me whether you have a heart.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Okay ... now ... back to chocolate mousse ... MMMMMMMMMMMM!
