Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Good thing I made espresso at home.....I too like cashews, top 3 nut for me. Cranberry? Well, we'll have cranberry salsa (SW theme this year) and sauce in a few days....but I do like cran in my drinks usually too.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Yum, hmm, meh ... in that order. Cashews and pecans ... favorite nuts. Espresso ... occasionally ... it makes me too hyper, though. If it's really good, it's good. But that means most chains would be not good. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Starbucks.) I don't mind cranberry juice ... as long as it's used as a mixer and has alcohol in it. And cranberry-orange bread is okay. But otherwise, I can leave it alone.

It makes me way too hyper and jittery whenever I have it. Normal coffee does the trick for me to wake up. No love for pistachios? My top 3 nuts: Pistachios, Cashews, Almonds
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Espresso, check. Cashews, meh, good in some Asian dishes as a final, finishing touch (Almonds, Brazil nuts and Pistachios please..............also, a good old fashioned salted peanut). Cranberry, don't get it, as a juice sure, but it's usually cut with grape juice or apple juice, a bottle of pure cranberry juice takes like 47 million cranberries to make.......and costs like $13.00 CDN ($4.25 USD). True story, my older sister used to guide bicycle tours in India for tourists who had way too much money and were running out of ideas on how to spend it, mainly British and Americans. They would bike through various parts of the country in a very controlled environment and then retire to their 5 star hotel for the night. So one night, my sister heads into the hallway of the hotel they were at in Mumbai and discovers a women on the floor unable to get up because she had badly hurt her ankle, she goes to her aid and helps the woman up and gets her back to her room where they can call for a Doctor. The grateful woman turns out to be the owner of the Pom (Wonderful) company, rumour has it she has a few bucks. Free Pom for life.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Nice..... btw, my wife and I will be biking across Belgium and/or France on one or more trips in the next few years. Not sure that means we have too much money, or just like to bike and drink and we've done RAGBRAI.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Well, you guys seem more the cycling types if you've done that before. I think the "cycling" on the tours my sister did was a fairly dubious operative word.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Well, we only did the last three days, that was the first year we really rode....and we've been back once in a support role (that mostly means taking down and putting up tents and drinking, unless you can squeak 9 holes in with your brother in law.....). We used to be bikers, now I'd say we are more hikers. It will be interesting to see if we go Belgium and beer, or France and wine (the first time).

Bread, cheese, pastries, frites, beer, chocolate. I think I hit all the food groups with that combo.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Aw, I would have to miss out on National Espresso Day. I could use the energy, but I can't afford anything stronger than water at the moment. I'm planning on vacay next summer with my bff, and on my budget, every penny counts. I'm not sure if it's stupid or not to save up just to throw it all away at once, but...I've never been outside of MN, WI, and IA. Time to expand my horizons. I used to be a roasted cashew addict until my brother found mouse droppings in the container. And you can't beat cranberry anything. Today's a good choice of foods, imho.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 It's not, live life to the fullest. Yep, agreed. Who cares what I could have spent my Las Vegas losses on... I still had a great time!!

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Yeah, I'll probably regret spending one blissful week in the Windy City when I could have had coffee every single day, huh? Are you saving up for this potential trip when the Twins are in town? That's my only regret when I visited the Windy City in 2012. We went to go see a lousy Cubs game instead!

It so happens that the Sox are in Minny around when we'll be down there, so...bummer. Oh well...I can always see the Twins at home. Maybe I'll content myself with a lousy Cubs game instead.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Today may be the worst National Day of the year...... National Sardines Day. "Some people are afraid to even taste these small, silver fish but sardines have a delicious taste that is loved by millions across the United States."Millions?? That may be a stretch. I'm going to make up a National Day since the real one is awful. Today is National Corporate Potluck Day. Today seems to be the day that every company in America has a pre-Thanksgiving meal together, and my office is no different. I brought in green bean casserole to share... I'm very excited for the turkey and brisket being catered in for lunch.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Sardine day?! What a waste of a day! My Dad used to eat sardine sandwiches, doused with vinegar. I love him and all but he's a nutty dude.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 My colleague eats sardines. No comment. But if this were national pickled herring day, I'd be all over that action.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Hating on sardines, eh? Try them with peanut butter.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Hating on sardines, eh? Try them with peanut butter.I know people who do and have. (Not me, as I don't like sardines. If I liked them, I'm sure I'd have tried them.)
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 When is national sushi and sashimi day?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Here you go..... https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/sushi-day/
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I read somewhere that you shouldn't order anchovies on a pizza, ever. According to the author, anchovies are such a rarely ordered topping that you're likely to get something very old/expired and because fresh anchovies smell rotten already the person making your pizza won't know the difference.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 I do like good anchovies on a good Caesar......but it is hard to find one I trust for the reason above.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Hating on sardines, eh? Try them with peanut butter. Sardines and peanut butter? Ish....
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 The company potluck is done. 2 full plates and now I'm ready for a nap.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 When is national sushi and sashimi day?Every day is sushi/sashimi day as far as I'm concerned.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 My colleague eats sardines. Seems to me they would have similar placement on the disgusting scale.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Here you go..... https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/sushi-day/We missed it? Don't tell me we also missed National Popcorn Day? Oh the humanity!!
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I've never had pizza topped with anchovies (surprise, surprise!), but I have had sauce with anchovies on pizza. It was a controversial subject in my family. I will say that the sauce in question was much better on pizza than pasta, though. And the time I made thin crust pizza with anchovy-ey sauce, it was considered an improvement over the same served on deep dish. And by the way, since we're talking about very old/expired anchovies, does it really matter? The consumer won't know the difference either....
