Rule 5 Redux: Graham in, Gilmartin out

I don't think Graham is going back to the rotation.  Why put him in AAA and he gets put into a line behind a couple of other starters with a solid MLB rotation?  My hope is that Graham turns into a really good 7th/8th inning option and solidify the back end of the bullpen.

Twins were very fortunate to score not just one, but two good pitchers via Rule 5 from the Atlanta Braves. First they got a very good reliever in Ryan Pressly, and then a couple years later they get J.R. Graham. Thing about Graham is, he's got starter stuff, and it wouldn't surprise me if he got some starts maybe next year, just to see.

Pressly actually came from the Red Sox, not the Braves.

This column really evolved to be about Duensing and that is because I believe he is the pitcher that most of the TD readers question the most.  Right now Thompson and Duensing are not being used in any value situation and I continue to wonder why either is still up with the Twins.  Is it because our minor league relievers have done so poorly this year?  Certainly they are the obvious cuts when Santana comes on board.

I prefer Gilmartin to Duensing.

What on earth is going on?  What is the record  for likes?  I took a double-take when i saw 11 notifications two days ago, and now it's up to 20?!

Believe it or not I don't agree with every decision the Twins front office makes involving personnel.

So why on this decision?

I guess not so obvious.... Alex Meyer heading out, 6-man rotation heading in...

Hindsight rocks.

So does foresight.  There were a whole slew of people on this forum and elsewhere, including reporters, who questioned the move the day he officially wasn't protected, the day they lost him in the Rule 5, and the day that Duesning was (for no apparent reason other than he was an organizational mainstay) re-signed, and also the day Thielbar was retained on the opening day roster.

Where did I say I agree?

Not protecting Gilmartin was a mistake. I think one of the other LH relievers should be up.

Bashing Duensing gets likes. Pretty easy formula.
