About 5 minutes ago I was about to post, "this feels like last year... Not as bad as the first week of the season, when we looked foolish on defense, but still bad"

I stand corrected we are starting to look foolish on defense.

It looked like Polanco had the right technique on the E grounder, it took an odd skip off his shoulder or chest.

Call me crazy, but I don't think proper technique on a grounder involves the ball contacting the shoulder or chest. ;)

this goes back to high school and there's no guarantee that my coach knew what he was talking about, but my recollection was, on hard grounders squat down squarely and put your glove in the 5 hole so if you get an odd hop that you can't react to, it'll hit your chest and you have a shot at recovering. He did that, but failed to wrap his glove around it. The outcome should've been better, but he had the right idea

Hypothetically, if someone could invent a catcher's mask that would reduce the impact of a baseball by more than 50%, would it make sense for Mauer to move back to catcher?  Or are his knees too far gone?

I have some ideas for a better catcher's mask that I would like to patent and license to all major and minor league teams, excluding the White Sox, Royals, Tigers and Indians.  I need an engineer to help and have been too busy to look for one.

117 pitches for Gibson tonight. Not sure that would have happened on Gardy's watch.  Not watching the game on TV, but presumably Bert expects him back out for the 7th...

KC or not, Perez is a joy to watch catch!

Having a plus catcher is a huge advantage.  Mauer provided that advantage to the Twins for years and I think that helped a lot.  Now, as a first baseman, he seems to be providing a minus.

interesting... Engineer I am not, but when you get to implementation, I can help with the margin and logistics part

Does it involve bubble wrap?

What would Bert Blyleven surgery look like? Brain-ectomy

I get the Royals feed about half the time.  In my mind, their broadcast team is vastly superior.  I would pay extra to have my choice of feed.  In general, it seems like other teams have better broadcasters.

Yeah, I agree. Perez Hilton is dynamic. I wasn't aware he from Kansas City.

Good to know, back to the ball game. :)

I will keep that in mind.  I am thinking that the margins could be HUGE in the case of professional ballclubs.  What would a team pay to reduce the risk of a catcher concussion by 50% or more?

agreed, the best part about Dick/Bert is the drinking game. I really like Provus and would like Provus and Smalley as the TV broadcast team.

Let's see what Sal Perez is when he is 32. The Twins had ample opportunities to take advantage of Joe's good/great years and they did not.

I must say that it is killing my spirit to see Mauer become this kind of player. Just frickin' killing me.

Nothing says "we take ourselves seriously" quite like seeing Shane Robinson up to hit late in a game you trail, with runners on.

Suddenly this team looks like a garbage 90 loss team. Wish terry Ryan had the balls to make the roster moves to give them a shot the rest of the years

they can be if you have the right manufacturing and shipping. If you don't manage Cost Of Goods Sold (Net margin vs Gross) it eats you alive. A team will pay a lot at invoice, but invest very little effort, leaving you the provider to deliver all of the dirty work. It's generally a delivered price, so they aren't paying for a fancy mask, they are paying for a protection system delivered and installed (on the players) at all of their doorsteps.

This reminds me of a story that Provus told once about how he tried to wear a baseball hat. Danny Valencia (I think) sauntered up to him and said to anyone who cared to listen, "Hey, you look just like SmallS." Apparently everyone thought it was the biggest joke - except Cory. So if you've ever wondered why Cory never wears a baseball hat, now you know.

I haven't watched The Sandlot, but I'm pretty sure this is SmallS Provus. Or is it Cory SmallS? Not sure.

You are a contending team, with Suzuki hitting 5, and Shane hitting in that situation? ??

Sometimes the Twins come back when I take the dog for a walk, so I am going to try that.

Sconnie ... it appears that you deleted your post, but aren't we glad that it isn't "You're killing me, Cory"? :)
