Not sure we've noticed this that much but Detroit is in a nice little death spiral.  They've lost 7 in a row and haven't looked too good.  One game over .500.

I said in spring training that I thought they would get old, have a few key injuries, and fall apart.  I don't think that was a tough call, given their roster.  So far they've lost Verlander, Victor Martinez, Alex Avila, and Joe Nathan, as well as a couple of lower-tier pitchers (Lobstein and Rondon).  It will be interesting to see what kind of money they are willing to throw around in the next two months to upgrade the roster.

I think they'll be fine. The lineup is solid and their defense is actually good. Their pitching staff is average, but that's an area they may bolster via trade.

Ultimately I wouldn't be surprised at all if they won the division. The only team not in the mix is the White Sox.

The Tigers have been spending like drunken sailors for a long time, way more than their market size, all in their owners obession to win a title before he dies. imagine what the Twins might have accomplished in the early 2000s if the Pohlads had gone all in for a title.
