Not really a Bert fan but that was awesome.  Especially the one back at Detroites (?) for not knowing how ugly their city is.  Bremer has to keep him away from the sauce.

At some point he became movie version Bob Uecker.  Unfortunately at some point the Twins became the Major League Indians.

When should we expect all the comedians who made fun of Detroit to apologize.

I guess about the same time we all need to apologize for Polish and Norwegian jokes we told back in the day.  I always thought making fun of Detroit was good sport.  Accurate, and good sport that is.

This is the world we live in now.  Can't even halfway upset anyone without it being considered a sin.   PC is out of control. Everything is a matter of opinion, no matter what, so all opinions are valid (when it often can't possibly work that way).

Geez, if they think THAT was offensive, they should listen to him do color commentary of a baseball game.

I'm curious to know who from Detroit would have been following Bert Blyleven to even known he made fun of Detroit.

Right, though it's nice to know the movies have post Apocalypse all wrong, I guess we'll still have wifi.

Last I checked the First Amendment is part of the Law of the Land, which, as it allows and protects Deadspin for publishing what they publish, should allow and protect Blyleven to say what he said.

'The Free Press Clause protects the right of individuals to express themselves through publication and dissemination of information, ideas and opinions without interference, constraint or prosecution by the government'

First Amendment involves saying what you want free from the threat of persecution from the government. Basically, a legal protection from the government so they couldn't suppress opinions.

Doesn't mean you can say whatever you want to anyone without being other forms of consequences. For example, if a team wanted to fire their employee for saying something very un-PC because they didn't want to deal with the fallout, that team would have the right.

I think a lot of people think they can say whatever they want and should be allowed to do so without consequences or criticism.

You thought Hunter's comments about West "being late for dinner or a concert" were out of line.

Interesting.

Interesting

Out of line in the context of the rules MLB has in place for such comments. If you go back, I said I thought they were funny (because I don't like West either) but they were worthy of a fine because saying it was unprofessional. Which it was. Baseball has rules against criticizing umpires in public.  Players know that. Do it, you get a fine.  And the whole conversation I got involved in was whether or not he deserved a fine.

And it really isn't out of line to have that rule in place. A professional accuses another professional for shirking his duties for personal reasons is unprofessional. It's not a hard concept to grasp for some.  Whether it was funny or not from a fan standpoint doesn't matter.  He says his comments, takes a jab at someone, we laugh, we gets fined.

As far as Bert goes, I don;t know of any rule in baseball that stops Bert from saying what he did.  Is there one? Do you know of one? Do you see the difference in the two situations? So making a joke like Bert did is funny, like the West jokes Hunter told were, but I don't see a rule violation in Bert's actions. From a PC standpoint though, bad business for the Twins.  Now, in this case, has the PC gone too far? That's the question.  But there is no rule in baseball against what he said.

But, believe me, based on the conversations previously, I  know why you think it's 'interesting'.

The first amendment has absolutely nothing to do with what Blyleven can and cannot say as a representative of Fox Sports.  I think Bert is awesome and I think this is funny but Fox Sports has another affiliate in Detroit and their employees can only go so far when making negative comments about other cities and organizations.

As others have stated.I'm not sure you know what the first amendment actually means/stands for etc.......

Detroit does suck however.
