MLB Pipeline Top 30 Twins prospects list

MLB Pipeline has posted its version of the Top 30 Minnesota Twins Prospects list. Check out the list and feel free to discuss.

Pretty good list. Obviously, everyone has different views, especially down in the 20-30 range, but I thought noticeably absent were Garver, Cederoth, Tonkin, Max Murphy, and depending on how much you value potential, Lewin Diaz. Certainly others people could make an argument for as well. I was surprised they included Zac Larson, and Niko Goodruml, and to a lesser extent Darnell.

To have Darnell on their list and not Murphy suggests to me that established floor matters a lot to them.

There are 12 position players of the Top 30.  18 Pitchers makes for an awesome outlook on the future.  

 

I was surprised to see Kepler behind Walker, but tend to agree with the listing. Walker has shown much more upside and production at the lower levels  IMO.  

 

Also glad to see Goodrum on the list.  Best infield arm in the system!  All Dalton Hicks does is make plays defensively and drive in runs (poor man's Hrbek).  

 

How many of our Top 20 would be Top 10's in other systems?  Exciting

I think an established floor should factor into ratings to an extent.  Darnell has had success in AAA and has shown flashes of a guy who could be a #3.  Is he there yet?  No, but he's not far from being ready.

Every list that has Gordon ahead of Polanco makes me go blah

Tim Shybuya and Brett Lee don't get enough K's so they are considered non factors despite dominating at every level.  All pitch to contact pitchers are not failures at the MLB level.

Can't talk about Brett Lee, but I like what Tim Shibuya brings on the table and I see him crack a major league roster as a middle/long reliever at some point.  That said, these type of guys are behind starters, closers and late inning relievers in rankings...

Whatever the order, pretty solid through 16. Graham at 17 would be great as he is likely a MR for the Twins out of the gate this year. I have my doubts. 18-20 are fine, but I have doubts about Fernando Romero at 21 until he gets another 100 innings or so. The rest shows that there is a lot of love for AA or AAA players and that's fine. Chargois, Melotakis, Wheeler, and Darnell all have limiting issues, so I wouldn't go so high on them. Lewin Diaz, Brandon Peterson, and Mitch Garver have to be on this list.
 

That said, this is not a bad effort made by people who likely don't really pay any attention to the Twins minor league system.

Darnell is a former 6th round pick, left-handed, who had a strong season in AAA last year and even made some starts for the Twins.

 

Murphy is a 9th round pick from just this year who dominated rookie leagues and then struggled in Cedar Rapids. 

 

I had Darnell at 30 in the prospect handbook and didn't have Murphy in the Top 30. I'd have him in the next 10 though.

I have Gordon at 4 and Polanco at 7... so, don't look at mine of you will Blah all over!!

 

And, after seeing Gordon for a week, I feel great about where I have him... and I really, really like Polanco too.

Shibuya needs to show he can stay healthy. He definitely has a lot of Kevin Slowey in him (And that's a good thing).

It's a shame that strikeouts is the tell all when it comes to prospect rankings.  He could have a 1.90 ERA for 6 years in the minors and never get any love because he doesn't strike out batters.  Are there not any MLB All Stars who are not great at getting strikeouts but just win?

Not one prospect list has polanco ahead of gordon. I read all of them and although polanco is a good prospect, gordon was just drafted number 5 overall. Gordon most likely will stay at a premium position whereas most scouts think polancos arm will not play at short. So...blah

It's the beauty of prospect lists... they're fun, and that's all. I don't think anyone would claim that their prospect rankings are perfectly accurate. They're all based on a combination of factors, some visual, some statistical and then a lot of opinion. 

 

And, they deal with people, so there's no way to know with any certainty. 

 

But, we all try.

Pretty sure he meant reputable prospect list. Cripes, one of those lists has Polanco as our #2 prospect.  That's pretty crazy.
