No Winter Ball for Sano

Setting aside Sano for a moment, what Ryan said varied considerably from what LEN3 related in the Strib. Interesting.

As for Sano, I wonder if they simply don't trust the people running Winter League teams to be cautious with an asset coming off injury or if he really isn't ready yet. If the latter, that's concerning to me.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same place. He had Tommy John in mid-March. I do like being cautious with him, but we just have heard so little, and Ryan's response was so definitive. Could be that they don't trust the leaders on his team in the DSL. Could be that after the holidays (which is when we originally heard he could play) the teams are all about winning titles and getting to the Caribbean World Series. You'd hate to throw Sano right into that, thinking he could try to do too much.

Interesting and disappointing. Agreed I wouldn't him to be out in a risky situation.

I may be very mistaken, but isn't the PR winter league later? If so, wonder if that could be an option.

Terry Ryan confirmed Miguel Sano will not play winter ball in DR. No setbacks post-TJ, but "doctors do not want him to play."

Hope had been Miguel Sano might join Estrellas by December. Doctors "don't want him to risk the possibility of a collision," Ryan said.

Collision?!?!?!?! Is Ryan working on his Spanish and collision is the Spanish word for "throw across the diamond?" I'm no doctor, but it seems to me collisions don't tend to be a common cause of concern for upper body ligaments. Is there something else we don't know about?

How did Trevor Plouffe break his arm? I would suggest that this type of tag at third could be really bad news for a recovering ligament!

Very true, however I'd think putting undue stress on the new ligament by throwing a baseball across the diamond would be the biggest concern.  After all, as you said, collisions tend to cause broken bones, not ligament damage, and having TJ surgury almost surely would not render him more likely to break a bone.

Let's look at the possibilities here.

A. The Twins don't feel real good about one of their most prized prospects having a setback in an environment they have very little control over.

B. Sano has suffered a setback and naturally Ryan is lying to all of us.

C. The Twins don't feel real good about one of their most prized prospects having a setback in  an environment they have very little control over.

D. Zombie Apocalypse is coming and the end is near anyway.

He can't play in Puerto Rico because he's signed on a team in the Dominican, a team that made him the first overall pick a couple of years ago.

I understand the rationale, but if they have concerns about how Sano would be handled in the Domincan League, why would they ever send a player there regardless of health?  In particular, they should then never send a pitcher down there.  TJ surgery should have little bearing on the decision, especially if a collision is their greatest fear.

D. D for sure.

FWIW, the only Twins organization pitchers to log significant innings (>10 IP) in the DWL since the beginning of this decade are Deduno, Thompson, and Perdomo.  On the flip side, they haven't had many Dominican pitching prospects in the system lately.

True on all fronts.  With no ill will intended, those three were never looked at as future building blocks.

If improper usage in the DWL is a legit concern, I don't want any prospects down there, not just TJ victims.  Let's find an alternate solution for winter playing time.

Ryan said that there's no chance for top third-base prospect Miguel Sano to play winter ball. Ryan, who saw Sano last

week in Fort Myers, said he looks good as he continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery in March

Really?  I wonder if Miguel Sano weighs 400 lbs. yet?  The kid has really porked up since joining the Twins organization.  At this rate I wonder if he could even be an outfielder let alone a 3rd basemen.

It's very clearly D. But I think it's part of a larger Twins plan to keep their prized guys out of the Dominican while they infect everyone else there with the zombie virus.

Chris Parmelee is the carrier?

If the virus makes you into arguably Licey's most productive starter and cornerstone 3-slot hitter...it can't all be bad.
