Rosenthal: Anderson won't be Twins pitching coach

I don't think this comes as a surprise to anyone. Tonight, FoxSports' Ken Rosenthal tweeted the following:

Source: Rick Anderson will not return as #Twins pitching coach. Told GM Terry Ryan he would not be back after team parted with Gardenhire.

My guess is that really wasn't going to be an option...

"You can't quit me!  I fire!"

But seriously, I expect it was amicable.  Anderson is exactly the coach that Ryan probably wanted to do right by, in telling the coaches that their status would be in limbo at best until the new manager is named.  Anderson probably thanked Ryan and confirmed he would look elsewhere. They're grownups.

Hasta la vista Mr Anderson, unless Ron Gardenhire get's another managers job expect Mr. Anderson to be unemployed for awhile.

Ron was pretty adamant last year that Anderson was the one coach he would not let go.  I wonder if Gardy goes someplace else, if he will lobby hard to try and bring Anderson on as his pitching coach.  I would imagine other GMs and team owners would be wary of his recent pitching staff's track record.

Ash, your right. I am sure that Ryan knew Anderson well and probably wasn't all to happy that it came to this. Anderson had to know he was tied to Ron's hip and his days were definitively over.

The greatest/cruelest joke that could ever be played on the majority of Twins Daily participants and Twins fans is if Rick Anderson was named Gardy's replacement. What would that have been like?

It probably would have been entertaining nonetheless.

Gardy could compromise and have Anderson be his bullpen coach at his next job.

Ha.

Andy and reality are really far away...

Or he understands that a new manager is going to bring in a few of his own people.

Or, Rosenthal's tweet got the substance right but mixed up the wording a little.

It's not surprising that the Twins would give Anderson the small but symbolic gift of quitting instead of getting fired.  It's a nicer way to end this chapter for the Twins front office, and a more pleasant parting of the ways to talk about in an interview for Anderson.

But either way, in the end this is the one guy you most need to be rid of after four years of almost mind-boggling starting pitching futility.

Or you could just say his contract would not be renewed due to managerial change. That said, I kmow social media is supposed to be pretty up to date, but I read this Tuesday in either the Trib, or PP.

If I were Rick, I wouldn't quit. I'd want the Twins to get their comeuppance and I, Rick Anderson, gets to collect my unemployment check.

My guess is that Anderson received a generous settlement to resign but to remain silent.

No, no it would not have been.

Hallelujah! It's been confirmed!

Oops, I mean... he'll be missed... urk.

We need to get a pitching coach who can get something from our starters.

I'm just hoping that the Twins continue with their organizational new approach to targeting pitchers with stuff that they have recently done.  Nolasco was a guy with better stuff than results (before this year).  Hughes has good stuff.  Meyer, May and Stewart have power arms.  Berrios and Thorpe have interesting arms.

Anderson was given crap to work with for the most part due to a problem identifying pitchers to target.  I'm guessing that Anderson was part of that problem since TR and BS were going to be asking several people what they thought of pitcher X.

It's time for a change in the org but people seem to expect Anderson to polish a turd and make above average pitchers.

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what Phil Hughes can achieve once he gets his curveball straightened out.

/ old joke, I know
