Phil Hughes... Hurt

Phil Hughes had a short night on the mound sadly due to an injury. In the top of the fourth inning Chicago White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn hit a hard ground ball up the middle. Phil Hughes was trying to get out of the way but the ball hit his right shin/ankle. Hughes couldn't finish the play because of the pain and Dunn was safe at first. After walking around the mound for a couple minutes the training staff advised Hughes to come out of the game. Phil Hughes pitched three innings and gave up two runs with four strikeouts before his injury. Hopefully the X-rays show negative results and he can pitch his next start. With Kyle Gibson and Ricky Nolasco out with injuries the starting staff is diminishing and we can't lose another starting pitcher. Hope for the best because losing Phil Hughes could be big this season.

As long as Hughes isn't badly hurt, this could be a good thing. It gives the team one more reason to call up Meyer and May.

Brock is right on this. It might be a blessing in disguise. If Phil misses a start or two, it should force the Twins' hands to call up either Mays or Meyer. We, the fans need it... we really need it - good or bad.

If Hughes broke his leg or something of that nature - that really sucks. I have greatly appreciated his contributions this season.

The Twins can't have an all AAA starting pitchers because these guys will get shelled and once they do their confidence will go down the tank. That's why it takes the Twins time to bring up people because they want to make sure their comfortable.

FWIW, I had a similar injury playing soccer last week. Shot to the shin (though in this case it came from another person). No break. It took a couple days to heal but it was fine... Hoping he sees similar results.

All they have to do is trade Correia and we can just go with the AAA staff.

which would still b better than last years ML staff...and Berrios to AAA. Its plain to see he has AA mastered ;)

Riiiight. Because more time in AAA means they will be more comfortable their first few MLB starts.... I wonder if the Twins can keep all their starting pitchers in AAA for the season, then when it is playoff time they will be more comfortable.

The Twins have gone with a AAA rotation quite often. Like all of 2013. Also, all of 2012.
