Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Game-time forecast: Partly cloudy. Winds blowing in from right field at 10-15 m.p.h. Temperature around 75. While I have a pocket of internet... Let's do this. ChiTown will post lineups here. YANKEES:SP, Whitley Gardner LFRoberts 2BEllsbury CFTeixiera 1BBeltran DHSuzuki RFCervelli CJohnson 3BRyan SS TWINS:SP, Gibson Dozier 2BSuzuki CParmelee LFMorales 1BArcia RFPlouffe 3BColabello DHEscobar SSFuld CF --------------------------------------- Things to think about: 1. Hotels -- In the year 2014... I'm not sure how a hotel can get away with not having fantastic Wi-Fi in all rooms. But the Hotel I'm staying at struggles to load anything. However the pillows look arranged real nice when we walked in the room... All fluffy and clean. It's a good thing since I might as well just go to sleep with a circle spinning around and around on my I-Pad not loading anything. I am standing next to the door posting since my page happened to load in this spot and this spot only. If I walk a foot in either direction... It goes back to spinning. Anyway... It's 2014... Internet service in hotels should be more important than fluffy pillows. 2. Phil Hughes -- The Ol' Crooked number got him again yesterday. It's been his only bugaboo all year... The occasional big inning. He was out dueling Tanaka for 4 innings and then came the 5th. 3. Kyle Gibson -- Hughes and Gibson have become our 1-2 Punch... It's more like a 1-2 slapping because our hitters haven't been helping. Hughes missed with his slap yesterday but not to fear... Kyle Gibson is here. 4. New Yorkers -- New Yorkers sound different than Minnesotans do. And when a New Yorker is watching a game at Target Field in the middle of Minnesotans. When Beltran homers... They stand up and yell at all of us. They taunt us all... They say... Take that... And they point their fingers... They even tell us to F you... I was laughing... Because. I knew that the entire section could take that guy and was thinking about it. 5. The 4th of July -- It was July 4th 1776... America the Beautiful with Spacious Skies declared its independence from England. I'm told it was an important time in our history. Without this Declaration of Independence... In theory we would still be dependent. At some point in time my kids will declare independence... And only come over for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm sure they will save the date it happens and shoot off fireworks as well. Yelling Happy 12th of May or whenever. I was 18 when I declared my independence and moved to New Mexico... I was 19 when I came back home declaring a false start on my earlier Declaration of Independence. Eventually... I did it... I became fully independent and then I got married!!! Marriage is a lot like taxation without representation. Anyway... Happy Birthday America!!!

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Believe it or not, this is often intentional as it increases PPV sales. In many hotels, it isn't even free (except in the lobby). More often in the U.S. it is, not so most everywhere else.

I hate when the visiting teams' fans 'misbehave' like that in a home team stadium. Instead of thoughts of 'taking them,' next time, spread the word, and the minute they pipe up in an obnoxious manner, everyone in the section stand up, en masse, and turn and just stare at them ... blank-faced ... just stare and keep staring.
kydoty Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Oh sure, the last time I get a chance to see Jeets in person and he's riding the pine today.
snepp Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I may actually get to watch some of this game. It better not suck.

Never stare at a New Yorker. They feel threatened and will attack.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Never stare at a New Yorker. They feel threatened and will attack.Pfft. That's why you get the entire section to do it. I wouldn't do it by myself.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I may actually get to watch some of this game. It better not suck. you our may have jinxed us with that

Yes, because if there's one thing Yankees fans hate, it's being stared at. you our may have jinxed us with that 3-0. Why can't we have nice things?
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Pfft. That's why you get the entire section to do it. I wouldn't do it by myself. I lived in Manhattan for a while. All those guys know is a knuckle sandwich.

Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Happy holiday birthday! In most lines of work it would mean you always get your BD off. Enjoy the game or whatever you do. It's hard to remember any of my birthdays from about the age of 16, through um...I remember fireworks.
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 It's hard to remember any of my birthdays from about the age of 16, through um...I remember fireworks. Actually I got to play Pebble Beach on my 18th birthday. That was Awesome. I shot an 87.
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I've noticed that today's player isn't concerned with the neatness of their eye black.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I lived in Manhattan for a while. All those guys know is a knuckle sandwich. I'm there fairly often for work. It's all about attitude. They just made you think that. Just give 'em attitude back. Works like a charm and they accept you into the fold. But if an entire group shows them in return that there is attitude all around them? It's an equalizer.
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 The photo for the Yankees pitcher today looks a bit like one I recall seeing for Parmelee in seasons past:
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 What happened to that Solarte dude? Guess he turned out to be their Colabello story, only a bit younger, so could still 'be someone.'

That was pretty much tongue in cheek. I get along with pretty much anybody.

ashbury Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I'm there fairly often for work. It's all about attitude. You can throw out their season records whenever the CSO faces NY Phil. It's gonna be a war out there.
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I have always had an intense dislike for Texiera. Is that how you spell it? What's sick is I didn't like his face intensely the first time I saw him. Probably grew up around his doppelganger or something. Did I spell that right?
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Pretty much. When you argue with yourself, who wins?
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 When you argue with yourself, who wins? We all win, because reason usually finds it's way in there.
Gibby Provisional Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I have to go be social for an inning or so. I hope the boys go nuts.
