  1. Isn't it great seeing Kirilloff go 2-5 with a double and grand slam home run. Add three hits from Lewis and we can hope these two will become what we hoped for the Twins by 2021 Nice start by Rijo. Really need Jax and Canterino to step up big tonight..
  2. Free Eddie. I say let him play as he does. We all know he will get on one of those hot streaks. Wouldn't it be great if the next one started around the last day of the regular season. He could carry the team through the first two rounds all the way to the World Series. Eddie...Eddie...Eddie!
  3. Great results last night. Way to scarry getting there. Thought Thorpe showed us what type of pitcher he can be for three innings last night. Was wondering when the last time was that he pitched more than 3.0 innings? May have something to do with his fifth inning struggle. Still only gave up a couple singles and would have looked so much better had May not thrown another curve ball to a lefty home run hitter. Look for Lewis to be in the Twins rotation in 2020.
  4. Yup, I forgot that the year he was drafted wasn't a full year of service time as far as minor league free agency is concerned.
  5. I expect the FO to surprise all of us later this year. After they have gotten through any discussions with all three of Odorizzi, Gibby and Pineda, I look for them to complete a major trade with someone for a young starter who is a legit #2 or #3 starter. As for who that may be, that's what all those guys getting checks from the Twins is for. When you look at this lineup and the players knocking on the door, they have assets available for a move, a big one.
  6. The biggest question for me when I finished reading this is: What does the future hold for Zander Wiel? Will the Twins add him to their 40-man roster? With all the competition for spots, unlikely in my opinion. That makes him eligible for the Rule 5 draft. Does he get taken by someone? Don't know whether that is likely or not, maybe some of you have a better opinion than I. If he isn't taken and isn't added, he would be back with the Twins for one more year before being a minor league free agent. One more shot to take that last step with the Twins? That is unless he would be included in an off season trade for a pitcher?
  7. Without looking at numbers, I recall Harper being very good for much of the season, surprisingly good. Don't know whether the league figured him out, or he was a little out of synch. Makes sense to bring him back, work with him and see if he has found that first half stuff...hopefully, in low leverage situations.
  8. That makes a very croweded bulpen. Expect the one to see the most action could be Hildenberger. All it will take is one great first outing for him to get back into the mix for the 5th or 6th innings. Got a feeling it will be more of a coaching experience for Romero.
  9. Thanks guys, all your work is appreciated. There is an old farmer saying, "the cream always rises to the top." As the Kernels begin their playoff run, maybe, just maybe that will apply to Mr. Javier. After what has to have been a most trying season, wouldn't a fantastic finish be wonderfful for this young man. So let's go, Wander. Set that stick on fire and lead the Kernels to the promised land! And Baily Ober for Mayor, or Governor, or President, or something.
  10. Count me among those who believe the Twins will attempt to resign/extend/QO to all three, Gibson, Pineda and Odorizzi. Gibby may be a one year offer for about what he made this year to see where his body is at next year. Pineda and Odorizzi would be longer offers. If they decline, wouldn't surprise me to see a QO to both or either.
  11. Very nice win. Are we beginning to expect Arraez to get 3 hits in games? Usually when someone comes to bat having already gotten 2 hits, you kind of expect them to make an out. Not Arraez, at least not for me. Nice clutch hitting by Max. And another good bullpen game.
  12. Thanks, Nick. And what a week ahead. I said on another post that La Tortuga is back. All is good in Twins Territory! He brings something to the team with his personality that is just plain good. As a player, he can play almost anywhere doing an acceptable job at most.
  13. Will be fun seeing how Cedar Rapids does in the playoffs. Can they surpass last year when they came one win short? They should have solid starting pitching, but where will the runs come from They need someone, thinking of you Mr. Javier, to step up and be that stud with his bat. Will also be a great opportunity for Wallner to earn a spot in Fort Myers to start next season.
  14. La Tortuga has returned, all is good in Twins Territory! We learned this morning what Kyle Gibson has been dealing with much of this year. Explains a lot about his performance to date. Hopefully, he can get healthy and take his spot in the playoff rotation. Loved that first pitch at 100 mph from Graterol. But then pitch after pitch at 98 or 99. Could he be the final block in a dynamic bullpen?
  15. Hadn't heard that, Seth. Great news. Doubt he will be in uniform tonight as that would require moving someone else off the roster for at least 10 days.
  16. Thanks, Seth. I expect we will be hearing a lot more about this young man in the coming years.
  17. The biggest question of the morning is, who will be on a flight from Rochester to Detroit, and when? Expect at least two of last night's pitchers, Littell and Smeltzer, will be traveling on the first flight tomorrow morning, if not later today. Expect Astudillo will also be on that flight. Will either of Hildenberger or Harper accompany them? I see Kirilloff was in left field last night. Smart to have him moving around between a lot of first base, right field and left. Hasn't Blankenhorn had a nice season. Don't know where he fits in the Twins plans for the next few years, but he is a valuable asset. We seem to read the name Spencer Steer on a daily basis. Looking like a smart pick by the Twins this past June.
  18. Great start for Thorpe. Considering he won't be eligible to rejoin the Twins active roster until I believe next Wednesday, expect he will get back in a game on either Sunday or Monday...before travelling to Boston to rejoin the Twins. Larnach has slightly better numbers at AA than Kirilloff, although a smaller sample. Considering that Kirilloff battled injuries much of the first half of the season, or longer, still regard him as the better prospect. But both should be very good MLB players beginning sometime late next year. Only question is, where will they play? Good seeing Schulfer have a very good outing after a couple clunkers.
  19. My guess is that the 40-man slot goes to Alcala, and Graterol doesn't get called up. Doubt that Rooker gets called up as he does not need to be added to the 40-man this winter. Need that spot for one of many others. Astudillo definitely will be in Detroit come Sunday. My guess is that Wade will get called up to be that extra outfielder and base runner. Doesn't offer the speed of Miller, but is on the 40. Of your retread pitchers, I see Hildenberger and Harper. So that's the five taxi squad guys, plus Alcala, Astudillo and Wade for a total of 10 callups. Agree that is a big number, but Levine has hinted several times recently we should expect that.
  20. Yup, you got it. Although technically we will probably set the record next week, was thinking in terms of what the record will be at year end. Hope we have the most, but those %#@%*anks may catch and pass us.
  21. Don't know how many they are going to hit. Even if it is around 300, will it be a new record?
  22. With all the injuries the Twins are battling, expect that Astudillo will be in Detroit on Sunday, rather than wait for the Wings season to end. Considering Alcala needs to be added to the 40-man this fall, seems logical he will get on the same flight to Boston with Thorpe, Smeltzer, Littell and others Monday evening. Great game from Balazovic, but I would have given the daily award to Canterino who allowed only one base runner compared with three for Balazovic. Granted, Balazovic had two more strikeouts, but Canterino's 7 K's in 5.0 innings is also a lot of trips back to the bench. Its a shame the GCL Twins won't have the chance to make the playoffs on the field. Were the playoffs also cancelled?
  23. Sure was nice seeing some of those Bombas come with runners on base. Looks like the bullpen is shaping up to be a strength for the remainder of this year and next. Now if the starters can get close to what they were at the start of the year, the next couple months could be fun.
