  1. He can play on my team. And no one who wasn't in the clubhouse every day knows what effect his injury had on his performance the last couple months. Watching Rosario run around the bases is like watching a deer run. Wasn't running like that after he returned from the ankle injury. What that did to his numbers, not a clue.
  2. Thanks for bringing us a great AFL season, Steve. If history tells us anything, we should be looking forward to Lewis joining the Twins in 2020. Will differ with you on where Raley is next year. I see him as part of a trade the Twins will pull off to fill one of those starting slots. Thanks again, Steve, a championship season for Twins prospects is always good.
  3. Only negative I see is that if he stays on the 40-man, another spot is taken that could have gone to player X. Expect there are going to be several players not added who's absence is going to be a surprise to many of us. Will any of them no longer be Twins come December? Time will tell, but I am expecting they are going to lose somebody (or somebodies) we like...alot.
  4. Hey Travis, great hearing from you. Curious what University you are attending, how far you have gotten, your major, etc? Are your long term plans to stick with real estate or eventually go into your area of study?
  5. When the Twins traded for Odorizzi, I am guessing that no one here or elsewhere thought he would be a likely target. Likewise, I don't have a clue who the Twins will target this winter, hopefully, they will find someone like Odor to make a similar swap. Then resign Odorizzi and they have three good starters at the top of their rotation. Go out and sign one of the better pitchers on the FA market along with one reclmation project (could be Gibby or Pineda) and they are better set for next season's run to the playoffs.
  6. No, keep him behind the plate 90-100 games per year. It makes sense to use him as DH a little more, maybe another 20 games a year when giving Cruz a rest. He had arguably the best season ever for a Twins catcher, don't mess with success.
  7. Expect this week will cause the Twins to take a real hard look at adding him to their 40-man roster come November. That is unless they can swing a trade prior to then, a trade that would include Raley as part of a package for that starting pitcher.
  8. Who are the best two prospects we have in the minors? I would say Lewis and Kirilloff, as far as position players are concerned. Kirilloff plays first bast, left field and right field. Lewis played short most of the summer and third, center and a bit of second in the AFL. Continue playing both players at those positions and you have 7 of the 9 defensive positions covered. Either could come up in any of THEIR positions to fill in for an injury. Eventually they could come up to start in one of THEIR positions or to be a rotational starter, much like Gonzalez. After all, I recall wondering how Gonzalez was going to find playing time as we sat here late last March. Haven't looked at the stats, but I am guessing he started most of the days he was healthy. Think I will generate a new baseball term.........Rotational Starter!
  9. Well that's a name (Schoendienst) I haven't seen for awhile, a long while. Did you watch him while with the Cards or the Braves?
  10. Great topic, Cody. I agree with those above who favor his playing all three positions next year which will enable him to be called up at where he is needed....short, third, left or center. Speaking of his success in the AFL, have you seen what Raley has done of late? After a horrible start to his AFL season, he has hit homers in each of his last three games with his average up to .250.
  11. I can agree with both your disagreement with yourself and what you meant to say. Who knows, maybe they will sit down at the winter meetings and the SFO front office will agree to send one of the two pitchers back as comp for the fact Dyson was injured when traded. We can dream, can't we?
  12. This may be the first time I see myself disagreeing with your comments, Doc. I am of the opinion that we gave up a lot to get Dyson. Was it too much to get the shutdown reliever we thought we needed at the time? No, considering how important the pen was for the final playoff run. Not only did we give up an outfielder who was ripping the cover off the ball at AAA, but we gave up two promising young starters. Yes, they both were in the lower levels of minor league ball, but I will be shocked if one isn't in some team's starting rotation four or five years from now. Of the two I really liked Teng.
  13. Excellent article, thanks. With Duffey and May joining Rogers at the back end, the Twins bullpen should be a strength the next couple years. Add last year's two rookies, Littell and Stashak, and it is five eighths set. Hopefully, they will add one dominant lefty over the winter along with another veteran...maybe Romo? Wouldn't be surprised to see the long reliever spot filled like last year, recycling AAA starters every week or ten days. Gives them major league experience while also limiting innings for a few guys like Graterol.
  14. There is something else that may account for part of the reason his defense appeared, at least to me, to go down from last year. No one has mentioned that not only did Sano miss all of spring training, he missed the first quarter of the year. Could this have been a factor in his decline? I don't know, but sure seems reasonable to me. With that said, I think he stays at third for the immediate future. As long as Sano and Buxton are both on the team and healthy, I am hopeful that Lewis becomes the new third baseman by 2021 with Sano moving to part-time first base/DH.
  15. Isn't that what they did in July, Mike? They traded three very good prospects, in my opinion, for one excellent reliever. Granted, no one knew that his arm was about to fall off nor did his medical records show that to be the case...or so we have been led to believe. Granted, two of the prospects were in the low minors, but I viewed the Asian kid as a potential prize.
  16. Thanks, Patrick. Still wondering why Cavaco was the top pick last year. Guess we will know how good the pick was in another three or four years.
  17. I know three things about the coming offseason. One, the Twins need to fill three or four spots in their rotation. Two, none of us have a clue how they will go about doing that and who will fill out the rotation, come opening day. Three, many of us will question whatever moves they make. Personally, gonna sit back and enjoy watching what happens over the coming months.
  18. Thanks, Steve, these are appreciated. Your note on Rortvedt's injury explains why he wasn't hitting as well the second half of the season at Pensacola. Will be great to see him back and healthy in the spring. Saw somewhere that the AFL All-Star co-MVP's last year were two pretty good hitters who had very successful rookie seasons in the BIGS. Don't know what we can expect from Lewis next year as he is so young. Yet, would have to believe that when Buxton goes on the IL next summer, Lewis will be the man they bring up to man center. Don't know where we will see him in the field, but he sure as heck has me excited after this stint with the best minor league players around. Whether it be third or left and moving center to cover for Buxton when needed, expect the Twins have another superstar in the making.
  19. Good article, thanks. I find it interesting how your numbers say that Rosario regressed this season. Yes, he had several head scratching moments In the field and on the bases. He also returned from an ankle injury too soon and played at less than 100% for some time. But he also had so many game changing plays, both in the field, on the bases and at bat. So in his case, I will choose to disregard the numbers and credit him for one hell of a season, probably his best as a big leaguer. With that said, I am beginning to warm to the idea that he could find a new home next spring, should the starting pitcher coming back be both very good and young. With the young studs we have nearly ready to arrive at Target Field, he makes the most sense to be the big name of a package offered for pitcher X. My biggest concern however, is what his absence will do to that chemistry you speak of because the core of this group has been together for a long time and Eddie is a big part of it.
  20. Totally agree. Do have a question, however. Is it likely that they offer a QO and during the period he has to accept negotiate a new deal...whether 3 years, 4 years or whatever? Is that common in the marketplace, or even allowed by the rules?
  21. The Twins currently have 42 players on their 40-man roster. I expect them to remove about 12 players to get to 30. Removing 12 (you have listed 7 above, not including Cron) will see some quality players at risk of being gone from the organization. Add at least 3 starting pitchers, one reliever and a 2nd/3rd catcher and you are back up to 35.That leaves 5 spots for adds from players who are Rule 5 eligible this December. At last count, I had 7 who were considered strong candidates to be added (Blankenhorn, Colina, Jax, Rijo, Raley, Duran and Javier). Its gonna be tight. Very likely someone we all like is going to be headed elsewhere on draft day, or sooner when DFA'd off the 40-man.
  22. I expect there will be a few extensions to the lineup, John. Maybe add $10mm or so by locking up two of Buxton, Sano, or Rosario. But it sure should be interesting to see how they end up spending money for the rotation. I am hopeful that they bring in a very good left handed reliever.
  23. Good morning, John. Today is a rough day, the day we transition from wondering if tonight's game will be available on tv to talking about what the Twins need to do this winter. Like everyone else, I have my hopes for A, B and C. But I will keep my thoughts to myself and let those decisions to the guys who are making the big bucks. The one thing I will say is that I hope, really hope, that they make at least two big moves between now and spring training to help our starting rotation. Believe that the other parts of the team, position players and bullpen, are in good shape and only need some window dressing. Thanks for a great season, John and all. Enjoy your offseasons!
  24. I hope you realized I was being sarcastic when I made that statement. Although I didn't see much of Friday's game, I remain confident that Berrios can become that ACE type pitcher the Twins badly need. Like many, am disappointed he didn't dominate the Yankees Friday and pitch much deeper into the game. Don't know why he didn't, as I don't know why he slipped so badly in August. A true ACE can't do either. Maybe he will get there next year. Doesn't mean the Twins don't need to find another #1 or ACE level arm for next year. Where and how, not a clue, but that isn't my job.
