  1. If the Twins part of this deal does unwind and Graterol remains a Twin, I can't wait until we play the Sox at Fenway. I want Graterol to close two of the three wins, hitting 105 on the radar gun and never being less than 102. Sit'em down with nine pitches both nights!
  2. If memory serves, I recall hearing comments when drafted as the best curveball in the draft. So like many, I got all excited about this young phenom who would be wreaking havoc on hitters at Target Field in a few years. In reality, becoming a good pitcher takes time. And that seems like what this kid is doing, putting in the work, getting better and moving up. Hopefully, that path will continue and we can see him dominate AL hitters a few years from now. And Seth, I absolutely hate that new name for our Fort Myers franchise.
  3. Was wondering when learned of this trade if all the moving parts would clear physical exams. Hopefully, the Twins don't sweeten the deal with a second player who has a lot of value or replace Graterol with either Balazovic or Duran. Should the deal unwind and Graterol remain with the Twins, don't know right off hand if that is good or not. If healthy, there is a lot to like about Graterol. Also means that one of the opening day starting spots will definitely be manned by one of the young guns. To be honest, I like that. So I guess we need to stay tuned.
  4. Had dinner tonight with my sister and brother-in-law. Until they recently moved from L.A. to the desert, they had been long time Dodger season ticket holders. When I asked if they were aware of the trade, they were not. When I told them about Maeda going to the Twins, they both were shocked. They are just fans who attended most of the games, however, felt he was one of their favorite players.
  5. When I first heard this last night, I was disappointed. Part of that is that I had never heard of Maeda. And part was my dream that Graterol could be either that long sought ACE or a shut down closer, at a minimum. Now that I have learned some about Maeda and had an evening to sleep on it, I am less disappointed. I continue to ask myself two questions. If Falvine thought it was likely that Graterol could become a top line starter, would they have made this trade? I think not. Had they thought he could become a shutdown closer, would they have made this trade? Maybe they would, but more likely not. After my rationalization of the situation, it seems that Falvine probably don't think as highly of Graterol as me and I expect many of you. If that is the case, this trade takes on a more favorable light.
  6. There is a follow up move resulting from this trade, Seth. With the addition of Maeda, the Twins now have six solid veteran starters...Berrios, Odorizzi, Pineda, Hill, Bailey and Maeda. And although a longer shot, Chacin makes a potential seven. And that doesn't include the three young guns who were promising last fall, Dobnak, Thorpe and Smeltzer. With ten potential starters, after Pineda and Hill return, the Twins will have an extra arm or two come July. Have to believe they can flip a rental, say Bailey or a healthy Hill or a revitalized Chacin for a few promising prospects. So I see the Twins getting four years of Maeda, plus another prospect or two along the lines of those they obtained in July, 2018.
  7. At first glance, don't like it. Doesn't seem like the top arm the Twins should be getting if Graterol is included in a package. Hopefully, management knows that Graterol won't be that ACE starter they so badly need. If that proves to be true, guess this is ok. Just would have liked someone coming back who is both better and younger.
  8. Speaking of Miranda, what was the highest you had him a few years back? Was he ever Top 10?
  9. You guys at TD do such a great job with the minor leagues, especially these rankings. Some of us older guys really appreciate it...thanks! After reading this today, went back and looked at the Honorable Mention. Can't believe that Dobnak and Rortvedt aren't among your Twins Top 20. Personally believe that Mr. Dobnak is gonna make believers of a lot of people when he spends 2020 as a starter for the Twins. And this group is #16-20? Guessing that at least two have the potential to someday be Top 5. Can see most of these five as bottom of the Top 10 for most organizations or the Twins several years ago. So thankful that this FO is sticking to their business plan to develop a minor league pipeline that should keep the Twins competitive for a long time. Now lets hope like he..ck that their pipeline continues sending exciting young pitchers to the Twins this year.
  10. Did we realize what we had all those years with Nathan coming out of the pen for the 9th inning? I don't have a vote, but he would be in for me. And speaking of Nathan. Every time Zach Littell enters a game I think of Nathan. Just something about him causes me to think if it is possible that Littell can become the Twins current day Joe Nathan. Sure would be nice, wouldn't it?
  11. Expect Thorpe to be a starting pitcher for the Twins for a long time, beginning in 2020. After all the analysis there is one thing we must remember. This kid is young and missed two entire years of development to injury/illness. Really, we should be shocked that he was with the Twins last year. Given another year or two to gain experience, this kid is going to be good, very good. As for Dobnak. No reason he should be anything better than a AAAA pitcher, except for the results he keeps putting up. I see him as a bulldog and those type of guys can surprise everyone with their success. Don't know which, but I expect one of the two will be pitching so well that they won't be able to take him out of the rotation when Hill returns.
  12. Don't know which two of the three will get the early season starts, but expect that one will do so well the Twins will have to keep him in the rotation once Pineda and Hill are both back. Maybe both will do so well that they will end up trading a veteran at the deadline. Package Bailey with one of the blocked outfielders for a very good prospect down in A ball.
  13. Arraez "Regression has to be in order for the Venezuelan in 2020." Why? With experience, off season prep, and coaching, why can't he be better? Didn't Sano hit almost 35 home runs last year in 2/3 of the season? If they are assuming the ball will be less 'juiced', Sano is the player it should effect the least. If I recall many/most of his bombas were way, way beyond the fence.
  14. Thanks for the reminder about Romero, Nick. The question is his command/control and that for whatever reason, his stuff gets hit sometimes, hard. Yet, I recall that start forever ago, think it was in Anaheim, where I was jumping off the couch with joy.Starter or reliever, don't care as long as he puts his problems behind him and contributes to future pitching staffs. The Twins have one concern in their bullpen come year end, Trevor May. I believe he is a free agent after this season. Do they extend this summer, sign him the week after winning the World Series, or let him walk? Having a couple arms like Graterol and a good Romero in the pen could have an effect on that decision.
  15. Know almost nothing about him. But, this sounds like the perfect signing for the Twins late this offseason. A youngish prospect with tons of upside, at least on paper. Expect with two openings in the opening day starting rotation, the Twins would be an ideal place for him to land. All that is left is for the Twins and his agent to get it done. Then it is up to him to be both healthy and effective in spring training. Still happy with the Twins opening the season with two of Thorpe, Smeltzer or Dobnak in the starting rotation. But heck, why not take a chance on a young guy who once had ACE potential.
  16. Does anyone have any news about who was taken off the 40-man to make room for Donaldson?
  17. Isn't part of the new rule that teams have a maximum of 13 pitchers? Thought I saw that last summer when this first came out.
  18. Does Cave have options? If not, he is the 26th man as Astudillo must still have an option or two. A big spring from Wade could see him enter the discussion. Doubt any of the big prospects would be considered as the Twins will want to see them playing every day.
  19. Confirms that not all players don't want to come here. Seems different factors are important to each big free agent. This time they worked in our favor. More often than not, they work against us. Did I see Montana, John? Assume you enjoy the outdoors cause it is supposed to be special. Enjoy!
  20. Great situation for all three. They get to begin their season in the minors, working on whatever each needs to work on. When an injury opens a spot on the Twins, whomever is playing the best gets the call. And yes, one of the three who could open a spot, Donaldson, Sano, Cruz, will get injured at some point this season giving Player X, Y, or Z his chance.
  21. Still my favorite Twin and has been since that summer long ago when he and Sano went down to the last few games of the year battling for the Appy League home run championship...Eddie won by one. No question in my mind that he played hurt part of last year and 2018. Also the main example that causes me to question defensive stats. I see a player that when healty does so much in left field to save runs. When healthy, is one of the best at cutting off balls headed for the corner and holding the batter to a single. Yes, he makes boneheaded plays in left, on the bases and at the plate. But for every play that has everyone scratching their head, he makes a play that you just say Wow! Add that he is the heart and soul of this team and you have someone I want to see in a Twins uniform for years.
  22. My question is if he is used this year out of the Twins pen, will he be pitching more than an inning in a lot of his appearances? Kind of a long set-up role where he comes in and pitches 1+ or 2+ innings? That would get his innings up this year to well over 100.
  23. As you mention, it appears the Twins are adding all these old guys. Yet, looking at the likely starting 9 hitters on opening day, seven are young and/or just entering their prime. The starting rotation is another story, or is it? Just may have two young guns firing off the mound to start the season. Once there, they may not want to give their jobs back to the older guys when ready.
