I agree, yet, whenever I think something like that the unexpected happens. Doubt there is much of a chance but Thorpe or Schmeltzer could throw 5 shutout innings after Dobnak does the same in an inning as the opener. Arraez should get a hit and score giving the Twins a 1-0 win.

Front Page: Twins 2019 Minor League Hitter of the Year
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand that's how it works, Seth. My surprise was that no one included him on their ballots. Albeit his games played was lower than most on this list, his numbers are similar to several of the Honorable Mention as well as the bottom two of the top 8. Considering how his play was affected by playing with the injury early in his season, to me he belonged on at least a couple of these ballots. And had anyone included his playoff hitting (was his playoff OPS over 1.000?), his numbers would have been noticeably better. I had forgotten that Garver won this award twice. I guess we could have known what type of hitter he would become.- 31 replies

in Stewart's defense, he hasn't pitched in a long time. On the other hand, he has been so-so all year both here and in Rochester. Will be interesting to see if he is on the team come December 1. Too bad baseball doesn't allow you to trade someone needing a fresh start for a low draft pick.

Front Page: Twins 2019 Minor League Hitter of the Year
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What a great year from Larnach. Will we see him in Minnesota next September? A bit surprised Kirilloff wasn't included with your Honorable Mention group. His late season hitting was very good after putting his wrist injury behind him. And his bat in the playoffs was something else. Had also forgotten how well Rooker was playing before going out with the injury. What may be most interesting to me is how Arraez has about the same numbers with the Twins as he had in Rochester...or are they even better?- 31 replies

Ugly. Was surprised Arraez wasn't included with your heading "Cruz, Schoop and Garver hit well." Thought his first inning double that lead to tying the game was huge...and against a lefty who I understand is very tough on lefties. Didn't watch the entire game, but can understand if that was his only hit it is an off night for him. What was it the night before, three hits? This kid really should be getting consideration for Rookie of the Year.

Still trying to recall who Dobnak reminds me of from back when? Shouldn't Jax and Sands be tied for #4? Very interesting group. Although Balaovic is becomming known as a stud prospect, most of this group isn't the traditional first round uber prospect with Dobnak coming out of nowhere. Will be interesting to see how many actually make future Twins rotations. My guess is at least two.

You said something Number 3 that has been a burr under my saddle much of the summer. And considering today's tone on this site, I am in no way being critical of what you said as I have read it in the traditional media as well as heard it from the broadcast booths. The comment is that the Twins were healthy during the first half of the season. Considering that they played the first six weeks of the season without their most dangerous power hitter, Miguel Sano, that just isn't true. Can you imagine the power numbers he would have right now had he had a regular spring training and had played in say 125-130 games (versus the 91 he had played)?

Very interesting ballots. Considering last year's AV is now off the radar, not a good road for Vizcaya to follow.

Thanks, Seth. Of all the pitchers in the organization, I am more excited about the future for this young man than any of the others. Moving up to AA from A is a huge step. Not only did he maintain his unbelievable success, the results got better. The Indians have a history of bringing up one stud pitcher after another. With Falvey now running the show for the Twins, is it too much to hope he does the same here? And maybe, just maybe, that pipeline will start with Ober.

Front Page: Silver Linings Amid September Storms
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Congrats, Nick. I hope that you and your lifetime mate will have a wonderful future. Count me among those who isn't convinced we will even make the playoffs. We probably will, but really need to get a few of these guys back to get that job done. Once in the playoffs, anything can happen. I have commented many times this year that I wished the Twins would extend Gibson. Yet even I have been questioning that wisdom. Now that I am aware of what he has been dealing with since his illness last winter, I feel for him. Hopefully, a couple weeks off will get his batteries recharged and he will get the job done these next few weeks and beyond in the playoffs. Then, hopefully, the Twins will sit down and get him extended to fill our #3 or #4 starter slot in 2020. Again, congrats Nick.- 23 replies

Was that Javier's best game with the bat this season? And after such a great summer with the bat, Wallner went 0-24 in six playoff games. That sure didn't help. Since the Twins moved from Beloit to Cedar Rapids, it seemed nearly every year the Kernels lineup was filled with well known top prospects. When I looked at their roster this year, those type of prospects just weren't there. Considering this team made it to the semi-finals says that both management and the players on the field had one hell of a season. Congrats. And a last big thank you to you and the rest of your group at TD for bringing us this information every day.

Twins 2019 Short Season Hitter of the Year
rdehring replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Always interesting seeing this group rated by TD. Thought that Wallner had a great season before going cold this past week in the playoffs. Would have liked ot see Garry, Jr. maintain his early season streak, but that wasn't to be. Have you heard anything from the player's about the improvements the City made to Joe O'Brien Field in Elizabethton? And this year was certainly an outlier with Elizabethton not making the playoffs. When did that last happen?- 5 replies

Personally, I am gonna sit back and enjoy Twins baseball the next few weeks. Will they be playing in October? We will see how it goes the next couple three weeks. When I finished reading the paper this morning and learned of the extent of injuries to Buxton, Kepler, Sano, etc., etc., nothing is certain. Whether it is October 1st or following the first playoff series, gonna look back and smile when thinking of perhaps the most enjoyable Twins season I have ever seen. Then on to 2020!!!

I guess Ober to the IL explains why he didn't start either of the last two games. Any news of how serious the injury is? Great series for Kirilloff. Even with all the injuries it doesn't make sense to call him up. He wouldn't be available for the play offs and doesn't need to be added to the 40-man this November. But it should be exciting next summer when he does break in with the Twins. Wallner sure hit a wall in the playoffs. And Javier hit like he did throughout the year. Amazing that the Kernels are in position to win tonight and go on to the finals for a second straight year. Sure seems to be a nice relationship building between the Kernels and Twins.

When that game ended, I said "that's the nail in the coffin." Now two more good whacks with the hammer and the nail will be set and the coffin will be permanently closed. With today's game counting as two in the magic number game, those two whacks could come today.

Surprised Ober didn't start last night, so gotta believe he will start tonight for the Wahoos, right? When you look at the Cedar Rapids roster, these kids have gone beyond anything I would have expected. Here's to their winning two straight and getting to the finals. And can you believe what Kirilloff is doing? Four games, average something over .400 and a home run in each game. I know he doesn't have to be added to the 40-man until a year from now and it isn't likely he will get the call, but could he play a role for the Twins this year?

Tough loss. Lots of would'a, could'a, should'a to second guess. Time to move on to tonight, which becomes a huge start for Odorizzi and the bomba bats.

Did I see somewhere that Kirilloff won't be going to the AFL? Was he replaced by Raley? What a run for Kirilloff. If the Twins lose Cave and Cruz, could it be possible they call up Kirilloff this weekend? Kind of like they did with Kubel back when. What a night with two big wins. Are the Midwest League semi-finals a 5 game series? You haven't listed it above, but will Ober be starting for P'Cola tonight?

OK, I'll admit it. I like Rosario, really like him. Have liked him since that summer long ago when I checked the box score down at ETon every day to see whether he or Sano had hit a home run. Also think he is one of the core players of this team, both on and off the field. Will you admit you don't like him?

Seeing this has been dump on Eddie week, there is something else I have noticed. When the Twins have a win with their RBK outfield playing, the player's meeting in center is different than when one or more are missing. Just more alive, more energy. Could be 100% wrong, but I believe there is a huge risk to this team should they trade any of the three. So many players/coaches talk about team chemistry. Take away a key part of the core of the group could cause the team to go flat next year, couldn't it?
-
I find it hard to believe, but I know almost nothing about most of the guys listed in today's report. Hopefully, a couple will work their way up to being key members of a future Twins bullpen. Will Vizcaya have the opportunity to pick up three saves this weekend? Is it Vizcaya or Vizcayal, as printed on the above photo?

Nice start from Canterino, not so nice from Jax. Is Raley replacing Kirilloff more about Raley getting some at bats than about Kirilloff? Or maybe having Raley be seen by scouts to increase his value this winter? The Kernels need to win a big game #3, while the Wahoos have their back against the wall. Only way to dig out of that is to win tonight.

Pitchers duel in Boston and Perez came out the winner. Arraez playing shortstop with La Tortuga getting several late innings at second and the defense is solid, 100% solid. Arraez gets the Twins first hit, plus a later walk, and La Tortuga has the game winning pinch hit. Finally, the game ends with a drive off the Monster, unfortunately for the Sox the Twins left fielder was Eddie, Eddie, Eddie! Hell fo a game.
