  1. 10 years, no flippin way! Seth Speaks-great memories! And all of you continue to integrate that and so much more into TD. This retrospective will be fun. Great work everyone who makes TD happen. A well deserved Happy #10 in advance-do something fun to celebrate, as long as it doesnt require bail money at the end of the evening.
  2. Parmalee was going to Herbie2. Burdi. Further back, way back, Eisenreich. Its a tough business to succeed in.
  3. All I remember of Bowie was the TV cameras focusing on him, sitting behind a dugout during a world series game, I believe Phillies were one of the teams, in the midst of torrential rain, monsoon like, and refusing to postpone or delay the game. Afterward he said it wasnt raining that hard. A perfect metaphor: Floating in the middle of the ocean and denying you're wet. The refusal to deal with reality produced stupidity then, and today history repeats itself.
  4. This is a long but fascinating comparative exercise regarding Nathan's suitability, or not, for HOF, along with a closing segment on Johan Santana. Great stuff, history, anecdotes, stats, and overall HOF voting principles. Food for thought. For me, Nathan's abysmal post season numbers, though small volume, moves the needle against HOF. https://www.cooperstowncred.com/joe-nathan-and-the-cooperstown-closer-conundrum/
  5. What to call a 3 pitch, 3 consecutive outs to the same defender? Full House Inning? JoeCool 3 Pack Inning?
  6. Long overdue, and well deserved honor. And a smidgen of happy news ? today
  7. Anybody is tradeable, depends on the return. Of middle IF's, Polanco could bring better return, just depeds on what someone else is willing to give, and how well that fills a need on our end.
  8. We need the school of Don Corleone mediation techniques to get these bozos off the dime.
  9. If they were really communistic tey would redistribute capital and wealth in equal shares among erey franchise, player, and employee of mlb and its affiliates. As it is, MLB corporate is just a sadsack affiliation of profiteers who rely on strong arm internal tactics to quash dissent. MLPBA is a slight step up from their corporate overlords, very slight. They all deserve each other.
  10. Thanks Ted and TD staff for continuing to put up interesting content. Your hard work is appreciated. So many questions for 2022, where to start? Ted looking at Sano is interesting..forgot he's in a contract year. No wonder saw photo of him working the weights....I would bet on him having good #s this year, but would not want to commit long term $$, just do not trust him to sustain high level of commitment. Agree with rv78 on this, longer term answer needed beyond Sano. Kiriloff at 1b if he stays healthy, but DH? JD could rotate, maybe DH is just rotating guys in and out for off-days from the field, for this year.
  11. Santa's SuperDuperSecretNiceList: TD Staff. What presents are TD asking for this offseason?
  12. Like Wallner but seems to me to be one our most tradeable prospects for starting pitcher. Wallner and one of Balezovich, Canterino, Strotman.....for a Manea or Mahle...its going to take giving up quality.
  13. If you want to get the services of those top pitchers you either need to convince other FA pitchers to think like Trevor Bauer, or be willing to spend well above projected AAV in a shorter term. This is the betwixt and between spot. I'm not up for allowing risk assessment to become definitive roster construction strategy. Rodon is risk, but maybe there is another way of managing that risk. Going out of the box entirely, look to a 6 man rotation to limit innings over the season, but retain innings expectations per game. Create an additional rotational spot for one of our minor league studs, and if one doesnt work, try another. And trade for Manea. Will cost Cantorino or Balezovich, plus another....but...there is risk in FA, there is risk in trade,...so what? They took a managed risk with JD and arguably have done well with that contract. No reason that logic cannot be applied to SP's with the same commitment to creative solutions.
  14. Thanks for all that. Makes better sense. And too bad abt Burdi, hadnt heard he was having tj#2. Hope he can come back next year.
  15. Thanks for clarifying. Does the 90 day rule apply to the 40 man roster or 26?
  16. But agree, its a loophole in rules that should be closed
  17. Great article Stu, as usual. I never knew Lefty trafficked in conspiracy theories. Learn something new every day! As for Simmons, I honestly wasnt sure what he was trying to say, other than it seemed odd, to say the least. As a BB guy, his defense still plays, too bad the offense has gone missing....which leads me to this suggestion for a new rule/look/model for MLB. The new rule proposal is this: Teams get a Designated Fielder, to be designated before each game by mgr decision, variable position, This also means one additional DH, and it would also mean the NL adopting the DH rule. Whew, it's a reach I know, but I have actually backed off my initial impulse, which was baseball rosters be structured like football, with a dedicated 9 on offense/ 9 on defense. I may be crazy, but I am not an extremist! Great gibbons, two DH's and one DF would be a better product. A guy like Simmons can do what he does, as long as he stays on whatever meds are needed, and the rest of us are spared the pain of having to watch him take an AB. Even better, we are spared the terror of watching the likes of Willie Norwood, Josh Willingham, or Luis Arraez, et al, try to track a hooking fly ball in the LF corner. Who do I contact at MLB to get the ball rolling on this, this needs to happen in 2022? ?
  18. ?What a surprise to logon and see Twins not only played a game this afternoon....who knew?....but won a 1-0 pitching duel. Didnt even dream of 1-0 and Twins being in the same sentence. Good for Ober and the BP. Great to see them have success against quality competition. Sadly, Yankees won. KC is oficially looking over their collective shoulders as Twins close in on 4th place.
  19. Spot on. It's a long way up between these pitching staffs. Can Austin Martin pitch? Now Im just being pissy. But honestly, hard to know what direction this organization is going when we trade our sole true #2 SP for a IF/LF who knows what and a guy who maybe is a SP prospect and maybe is a SP suspect....hard to tell the difference these days. Yeah, I'm just being pissy.
  20. Or, is Polanco a tradeable piece of a package for SP over the winter? Still leaves SS open. But it feels like a better possibility in Twinsworld to sign a quality FA SS than quality FA SP.
  21. Now it might be a couple of years before fans know if the team indeed won or lost the 2021 trade deadline. This statement sums it up. Open minded but skeptical on the Berrios trade. Wonder who is going to fill out the SP rotation next year? Wonder if keeping Pineda means they are re-signing him? Shocked SLC would take Happ. That was a stunner. Maybe they see him a LOOGIE. If nothing else, at least between Joe Ryan and Austin Martin we now have some of the very best hair-do's in MiLB. Wonder if FO will provide team stylist when these guys get their shot at the Bigs?
  22. Target Field was ostensibly built for the exact purpose of keeping a player like this. From available evidence, it doesn't seem like the team is making a particularly hearty effort to do what it takes to retain him. So we were told. This is a mgmt decision, not FO. Carl P intervened to sign Puck, late, and it cost him more $$ waiting. But Puck took a discount. The Twins way, even with 2 WS rings. The Dome was the excuse in 92. What is now? Mid market BS? TF put Twins on competitive trajectory with payroll...so it was said. How many times does an opportunity happen to lock up a generational talent of your making? Once every 30 years apparently in Mn Twins world. Spend the $$ Pohlads. Reap the ROI you committed to drafting and developing- for this chance. Isnt that the reason for being a MLB franchise? If we wont pay the players we draft and develop, then what is the point?
  23. Dangnamit.....this is all so depressing. Trading Berrios, imho, means we are starting over. The chances of receiving a SP in return of his quality is little more than a crapshoot. Twins have invested 9 years in developing this guy, have a few seasons of quality results to show for it. SP is where roster construction starts. Why then would we even think about trading our most capable SP and one of the most durable SP in MLB ? Trading him now seems to me a monumental organizational failure. If he truly does not want to sign here, we have a full year to work it out, and if not, then do what we have to do next July-either trade him or ride it out if we are contending. But now now. Makes no sense to me, and I am really tired of the gerbil wheel constantly in motion for the next Big Pitching Prospect, which, even in the remote chance this BPP would work out, we would be several years away from any meaningful impact at the MLB level. Where's my Liter bottle of Pepto Bismol?
