  1. Yes, bring up Oliveros. It would be nice if the team at least pretended to care about having a modern bullpen. I'm not sure why you'd want a group of 8 guys and the only one who has a legit chance of getting a strikeout when one is needed is the closer.
  2. Seems to me we're asking Ryan to also do St. Peter's job than. It was my understanding that Ryan was supposed to do what he thinks is best for the team. If what Ryan thought what's best for the team wasn't necessarily what's best for the business, that's when ownership or the team president tell him to go jump in a lake. But I forgot, this is the Twins we're talking about. Everyone has to share the same ideas so as not to cause awkwardness at the company X-mas party.
  3. Omar Infante clearly. I voted for him over 4.5 million times for the ASG already.
  4. The White Sox aren't a "rebuild" kind of franchise, they "reload". Sale's not for sale, they'll try to buy or trade to fill their holes. Key word being try.
  5. If TR is in fact making decissions based on PR, he has no business being a GM. I think Pelfrey is less 2014 Hughes but more 2014 Suzuki. His current numbers are a mirage. Maybe the team shouldn't trade him, but now that he's pitched "well" he's probably earned a longer leash. Do we really want him to even have a leash at all? We all know how bad it can get, but now he's built up enough good will that he'd likely get a half dozen extra starts before he gets replaced if he happens to hit the wall. Counting on him could be dangerous.
  6. MLB is always complaining about not being able to attract urban kids any more. Maybe if ALL professional players made good money, not just the few who made it.
  7. Yeah, didn't think of that. He's still young enough to try for another multi year deal. If that's his perigative.
  8. I kind of like it. Until I think of 2016 and both DH and 1B being blocked. It's a push for me.
  9. Papelbon's contract is a bit pricey, however a team willing to eat it likely would have to give up fewer prospects, or so the old wisdom goes. Upon close inspection of his contract, there's a slight catch in the Twins favor however. Pap's silly $13M 2016 option vests at 100 games finished between 2014-15. Currently he's at 76 games finished. Should a team that needs a closer trade for him, they'll have to pick up that option. If the Twins stick him in the 8th and let Perkins continue to close, the option is not a factor. Not sure how I feel about it, but thought I'd throw out the bone for consideration.
  10. I hope he keeps pitching well, but the odds that a right-handed pitcher with a 4.2 K/9 is good for three months has already been incredible. Asking him to still be pitching like this for three more months is like a hitter getting a 28 game hitting streak and people start talking about his chances of catching DiMaggio.
  11. "DRA concerns itself with all outcomes and all runs allowed. It doesn’t zoom in on strikeouts, walks, and home runs, to the exclusion of all else. What it does do is credit pitchers with their role in the outcome of every plate appearance. The effects of opponent quality (in essence: how good is the opposing hitter?), defense, the catcher, the umpire, the ballpark, all of these things are corrected for. Not perfectly, of course, that would be impossible, but as well as we can. DRA also measures a pitcher’s role in slowing the opposing running game, and credits or debits him accordingly." Well. That sounds like a pretty ambitious stat. I can't tell if I want to know more, or if I want to laugh at the sheer scope of what it wants to (thinks it can?) measure.
  12. Only 11 qualified pitchers have a K/9 of less than 5.5. Only two of those have an ERA less than 4.00. Both are Twins. And neither throw with their left hand.
  13. I think the odds that Pelfrey getting a QO are still quite slim. Still, who would have thought that he'd be the first guy that the Twins might even have a decision to make about a QO. It's really hard to believe he's not a lefty. I didn't even know it was possible for a righty to have a 4.2 K/9 and a sub 4.00 ERA.
  14. Um, that article is being carried by MLB.com written by a writer for MiLB.com. Do they not read their own content? Either they are extremely flexible about free speech, or there must be some kind of push for change. There must be some franchises that would support a wage increase, perhaps this is a shot across the bow to the dirtbags that are still against it. Another article last year linked or written by a TD member showed how much under minimum wage these guys are paid and I did the math (likely poorly) and it was something like 1.5M each franchise would need to pay extra to get thier minor leaguers to federal minimum wage standards. That's like what the Twins are paying Jordan Schaffer not to play this year. Edit: It was fangraphs, and I guess I was the member who linked it. Man I'm losing it. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/16267-fangraphs-article-on-milb-players-fight-to-gain-minimum-wage-protection/ And my (likely bad) math showed about $1M more, so that would be 2/3 of a Jordan Schaffer.
  15. The fan voting is a bit of joke. Whether it's the Royals fans going crazy or it's your more traditional Big Market exposure votes, something always seems to be amiss. That being said, I always have wondered if an All-Star team would actually beat your avereage MLB team in a one game situation. There does seem to be something about chemistry that affects baseball despite my wish that the game could be broken down with science. Seeing how the trend now is to build from within and too often MLB teams that try mass offseason overhauls with high priced free agents fall short (see 2015 Padres and the 2013 Blue Jays), I'd probably put my money on the 2015 Royals over any group of NL players.
  16. Max has been a one-level-per-year guy until this year. He started this season on Ft. Myers, I also have a hard time seeing him get a MLB call up unless it's September (he's already on the 40-man after all). I think his advanced approach at the plate probably does get him a promotion to Rochester though. Arcia, Danial Ortiz and Eric Farris are the starting OF there. If the organization isn/t picky about the Rochester OF defense, Kepler could probably bump the 29-year-old Farris.
  17. I agree, I would have had him lower on the list before his callup, but dispite his low BB rate, he looks like he can hit breaking balls. None of the other youngsters have shown that ability yet.
  18. I do, I'm happy to watch winning baseball and hope it continues into October. Still, my sights were always set on 2016 and beyond, this year is just the appitizer. If passing on the appitizer means I have more room for desert, I'd have to consider it. I'm not taking my eyes off the long term goal, and considering how Gibson and May struggled upon their call ups, I think I want room somewhere soon for Berrios with the hopes that he'd be ready to a factor next year. This team still needs a front line starter, and there isn't one on the team yet. If the Twins ever get one, he's going to be coming from within.
  19. I'd prefer to see a half season of how a possible Sano/Plouffe dynamic might work. However, if the Twins get a pretty sweet offer, I'd move him without regret. He's always been streaky, and his current slide supports that. I think he's better relied on as a solid supporting piece and not a conrnerstone player.
  20. I'm guessing by merit you mean draft position? Next year's rankings could be all over the place. The more agressive guys might put guys like Kepler, Hu and Gonsalves higher than guys like Stewart and Gordon. Most seem pretty orthodox though and will still use pre-draft evaluatoins and draft position as a major factor.
  21. I think Dozier's snub last year will carry some weight. Besides, if the decision comes down to Ned Yost, I can't imagine his long relationship with Paul Molitor could hurt.
  22. I used to have trouble remembering my email accounts and had to make new ones on a monthly basis due to them being convoluted or revolving around some flavor of the month catchphrase. When I started dating my wife she made an email account for me as nicksaviking. Since I didn't forget it, I've used that as a username for everything ever since. If anyone was curious about my silly name. Surely no one is.
  23. The team took his stride to the plate away. Not only is that bad for the upper body as previously discussed by smarter posters than I, but it decreases velocity, and one would have to think with the ball being released out of his hand earlier, it is easier to pick up for the batter.
  24. I read about this teenage SS prospect the team signed a few years back, he might be close to ready. Angel Sano I think his name is. I might go by a different first name though if I wanted to be taken seriously.
