  1. So basically two guys in Turner and Stewart, who are a hair away from being written off as prospects, and the two most devisive young players in the system?
  2. Perhaps the youngsters are running when they shouldn't, but most of the time it seems they are out by a mile. It just seems like there must be some technique they are flubbing. Whether Molitor has them doing something different with timing, leads or first steps, it seems to me these guys either aren't doing something right, or Molitor's successful technique as a player was unique to him perhaps.
  3. this team has been pretty good about taking extra bases and beating throws to the plate, just as advertised with Molitor as manager. But what's going on with the steals? The 59% steal rate is awful, only the Tigers have been thrown out more but that's due to a higher volume. It's not like this team is devoid of speed, there are lots of guys who should be 10-30 SB guys, but when they get caught, it's not even close, they're getting thrown out by a mile. What gives?
  4. As the last guy in he's unlikely to play, but after his recent heroics, Yost would be foolish not to use him as a pinch hitter late in the game if the AL is behind.
  5. He hasn't had a real chance yet. He's been above league average in his first two years despite being young, injured and yo-yoed up and down.
  6. Hamels will be 32 next year and the team would be on the hook for him through his age 35 season. He would be moving to the AL and cost 22M per year. Why would any team be impatient and foolish enough to commit to four starters on long term deals past their age 30 season? I don't even want one such pitcher, they're time bombs. I would rather have May the next four years over Hamels. The odds of Hamels staying healthy and productive are much less.
  7. Jay, who probably won't be top 50 and Gorden because of his position. Hu might get on prospect lists but I don't think he's long for A ball. Gonsalves might get ranked if he starts putting up similar numbers he had in the Midwest League. Stewart won't be ranked any more. The young bats at AA and above better pan out, the lower levels don't have much now. I really hope Cabbage and/or Blackenhorn develop.
  8. Someone should have suggested to Dozier that this type of heroics might have played better BEFORE the voting closed.
  9. Is Perkins required to be the closer? Because if not, I haven't heard anyone mention Craig Kimbrel. He's having a down year with two more years under contract for a team that went big and whiffed. He's almost certainly the kind of contract a traditionally low budget team with buyers remorse would be willing to unload at the right price, even though they would deny it to any reporter who asked. Perkins could be the lefty in the pen, unshackled of the closer title and free to be used when the need was greatest. Not that I make the trade; I do like to throw stuff out there though.
  10. As Perkins and May are the only bullpen members with any reasonable ability to strike batters out, I would think they would be the only logical pitchers to bring in with runners in scoring position. I saw May in a bases loaded jam with no outs and with runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs in two of his last four starts. He got out of both giving up nary a run and getting 5Ks in the process. I'd say he's been in similar pressure situations before.
  11. Robinson's vertical leaves a bit to be desired.
  12. He would have gotten out a year later and he would have had the whole league to bid on his services. He said he wanted to play for a contender and get paid, but he wasn't making a stink, Santana was never a problem child. Also the Twons could have used that comp pick to draft that Trout guy.
  13. Well to be fair, when Plouffe couldn't play SS, he also couldn't play 3B. Not competently anyway. I'm not sure if Plouffe could play SS. I think Dozier could though, and if Plouffe can play 3B, he could probably play 2B. Of course that's a lot of reshuffling, you might be better off just drawing positions out of a hat.
  14. If the price is right, sure. He's still getting results but his strikeout numbers are tumbling and his walks are rising. He's got some hefty red flags not to mention what happend to the strikeout rates of the other two Padres relievers the Twins got this past offseason. I'll take him, but not for a prospect I still care about, it would mostly have to be a salary dump.
  15. Well the Royals are in luck. When Morneau went down, Delmon Young came through big time to help the Twins to the playoffs and he's now available. Jim Thome too.
  16. The Twins extremely conservative, I can't see them spending on uncertainty.
  17. Oh, Viola didn't have a problem throwing ten in a row. Speaking of Sweat Music, he was a rumored candidate for the job. A focus on the change up sure looks like it was in the cards.
  18. I was pretty unhappy he never got a MLB look. He should have at least gotten an audition last year.
  19. The difference lies in what happens when the ball is put into play. Batters statistics don't get any boost from putting the ball in play and moving a runner over. Getting the runners into scoring position is a pretty strong at bat though and the pitcher too often pays for it. Strikeouts prevent this. Unless the catcher drops strike three, strikeouts prevent everything in fact. They are baseballs trump card.
  20. He has more than health concerns. His power is nearly gone and his defense is diminishing. Of bigger concern, would the Twins be willing to look to give large buyouts/extensions to Sano, Buxton or others if they already are on the hook for two $100M contacts to fading vets?
  21. That NL East is a division in the International League no?
  22. His 23% K rate is higher than it was in the minors, but not too concerning for a young player in his first MLB call up. It has risen to 28% this month. I'd say that's something to keep an eye on, I wouldn't be concerned with any other part of his game at this time.
  23. I played organized ball for maybe ten years, I've been driving a car for 20. I've been in two car accidents in that time, I probably had 2000% more collisions playing baseball.
  24. So is his BB%, which used to be his biggest asset. Holy cow have his walks taken a nose dive. I am really encouraged with his bat. It does look like there might be a correlation, perhaps even a big correlation between his lack of walks and his new found ability to make good contact. His 2015 minor league BB% is down to 11% as opposed his career 14% so there is a good chance he's been working on being more agressive, still that 3% drop is nothing compared to the decrease in his MLB SSS at bats in 2015. Got to find some middle ground I'd think. If he does, he'd be pretty good.
  25. Couldn't agree more. He did swing at a few pitches outside, but he's night and day compared to most of the other youngsters thus far. It's not that pitchers haven't figured out to throw him off speed stuff off the plate because they have, he just hasn't been biting on it often. That always seems to be the biggest red flag with young hitters too. Very optimistic.
