  1. Before his injury, Dalton Hicks was the regular 1B in AA and is about ready to return. I'd think Kepler or Vargas would go to AAA and Vargas certainly doesn't seem to be asking for a promotion.
  2. A cornerstone is only part of the buildings foundation (though it's basically ornamental) so I'm sure cornerstone and foundation at some point became synonymous. It probably wouldn't be as inaccurate or out of context to list multiple players as a "foundation". I really don't think it's part of the "everyone gets a trophy" philosophy that many don't like, as rankings and lists are all the rage in "journalism" these days.
  3. They still only have 25 roster spots though and don't have much room for another corner bat.
  4. I wonder if his large drop in velocity is due to his choice of fastball or if his choice of fastball is causing the drop in velocity. RHP don't get many Ks with a 90 MPH heater.
  5. Yes because HR aren't "in play" which of course is a bit of an issue.
  6. I like the trade proposal threads usually, even if I don't like the trades. I'd hesitate with this one as I still like Arcia a lot but mostly because I don't think Wieters can catch full time anymore. He isn't for Baltimore any way. Edit: I take that back, he has been playing a lot since the AS break. Just not very well.
  7. I'd say the Padres are in no position to laugh at anyone.
  8. Yeah, those sidearmers don't seem to last long anymore. The price was pretty low though, if his paycheck didn't bother a GM there was little harm.
  9. Well if you're in upstate NY I'd guess Yankee games are broadcast on basic cable/satellite and it just so happens they play the atwins the next three games.
  10. Another guy from my hometown and one time Twin (who never actually played) Rick Helling.
  11. The Royals ran on everyone. Norris is throwing out 35% this year. Its not that I'm high on Norris, im just very down on Tulowitzki who has about one year left as a shortstop.
  12. Is that how scouts evaluate these days?
  13. Frankly, I have no clue what the package would be. But I'd rather have Norris. He's young and wouldn't prevent the team from giving out a mega extension to any other young players. Plus there is no hope for catcher in the system. At least you have hope and a prayer with Polanco or Gordon.
  14. Whether it was Miami, St. Louis or the Twins, Cishek is likely to get non-tendered in the offseason. He made 6+ million in arb year two isn't it? Not many teams want to pay a non-closer an increase of that kind of cash. I would have gambled with him as the price was close to a salary dump, but he's probably a rental anyway.
  15. And legitimately concerned. With his infrequent bullpen use, will he even be able to transition back to the rotation this year? If they wait too long, they're going to have to send him back to Rochester regardless just to get in game shape just as a pitcher who is coming off of a lengthy injury would.
  16. But who gets replaced? Unless it's another lefty, O'Rourke is probably staying. May could get sent down, though that seems like a waste. Graham is staying unless they Braves suddenly get generous. To get a new lefty, Boyer has to be released. To get two it absolutely needs to be Fien. I also don't get the hesitation to use the unproven guys late in games. The proven guys are proving not to be able to handle it.
  17. I agree that at this point Duensing is the best of the three, but none of them should be in the 7th either. Low velocity and low strikeout pitchers shouldn't be used in any kind of situation other than mop up duty. A bullpen that has one guy with an inability to strikeout a batter should reconsider what they view as the necessary skill set for preventing late-inning runs and the Twins current three most trusted and used arms all have a K/9 under 5.3. It's beyond baffeling how that even happend, and I don't know how the front office could have let this go on for so long, it should have been addressed months ago.
  18. Of course the problem here is that the only BP guys on the active roster that can be sent down are May and O'Rourke, and they aren't actually a problem. Graham isn't a problem either, other than the way they use him, but the club's biggest issue with him is his lack of experience, which by now he probably has as much or more of than most of the arms they would call up from AAA. So we're back to the Boyer/Fein/Duensing issue, the guys who for some reason are at the same time the most trusted, and the biggest liabilities in the bullpen. Trades or callups won't be beneficial or perhaps even possible until at least one, and hopefully two, are removed from the situation all together. And I don't say that with any malice, I appreciate what each has done for this club in their time here. It's time though, cords need to be cut. If the Royals have the stones to cut ties with the much more accomplished Jason Frasor, the Twins should be able to do the same.
  19. I'm not a doctor but I play a pharmaceuticologist (sp?) on Twinsdaily and my expert opinion is that if all PEDs were created to do the same thing, there would probably be just one.
  20. Wait, so Rochester needed 4 pitchers to get through two innings? Great.
  21. He's paid like it too. I'd guess that hasn't happened with the Twins since 2007.
  22. I'd be interested in younger players like Story. But the reason the Rockies would look to trade now is to get some prospects and to cut payroll. Pretty standard for rebuilding teams. Moving Tulowitzki does that, moving Story does the opposite.
  23. He looks like a pretty solid player at this time, but even if they don't beleive in what they're saying, opposing GM's will still degrade his value due to his profile as a corner bat with little HR power. Kepler is a really weird profile though, his slugging is really helped by his strong triple numbers, which looks legit as he has had success with three baggers in the past. However he isn't exactly a speedster either, this is the first year he's stolen double digit bases. What are we looking at here? I wanted to say Christian Yelich upside but Yelich has more speed but worse strikeout numbers. You can't rightly say Wade Boggs without looking like an idiot. This repertoir just doesn't seem common in today's game.
  24. Yes, but then if we are using WAR when considering how helpful he is to the team we can't simply give him an N/A for the times he sits on the bench, we would need to be subtracting Santana's negative WAR from his total. It wouldn't take much of a decline from Tulowitzki for that number to become a Push.
