    Me too, sinkerball pitchers tend to flame out. Here is an article with a list of the best sinkerball pitchers of 2011. (I am truley sorry that it is a Bleacherreport, it is however not a slideshow.) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/688836-mlb-power-rankings-the-7-best-sinkerballers-in-the-game-today For those not wanting to soil their computers with a crappy Bleacherreport, the list goes: Tim Hudson Derek Lowe Brandon League Justin Masterson Carlos Zambrano Jason Marquis Jon Garland Honerable mentions were Mike Pelfrey, Jake Westbrook, Luke Hochever and Joel Pineiro with nods given to Brandon Webb, Aaron Cook and Chen Ming-Wang who were injured. So basically Tim Hudson and Derek (gag) Lowe, who were worth offering more than a spring training invite past their age 32 seasons. Of course I'm sure some may believe Mike Pelfrey will still be valuable, I wouldn't want him under contract for the +12M that would be needed for an extension though. I think most pitchers start tanking around 30, but sinkerballers are the worst. Congrats to Tim Hudson for his long and successful career, to the others, sorry, but something about that pitch isn't sustainable. The Twins should not be focused on this pitch, Gibson and Kohl Stewart should be more focused on using their velocity to get batters out, they'd be better for it in the long run.

    Those kind of pitchers aren't phenoms. Phenoms can can strikeout a modest amount of batters without even trying. The "pitcher not a thrower" describes Baxendale, Rodgers and Slegers too, they're not phenoms.

    I like Vogt, but I'm guessing I'd be suspicious of him if he weren't on my fantasy team. The last time the Twins dealt with a catcher at his peak they were blinded by desperation and gave Suzuki a two year extension with an option. The time before that they gave Doumit an unnecessary mid season extension. I think there may have been one other fairly regrettable catcher decision prior to that, dang the name is just on the tip of my tongue.... I guess what I'm trying to say is despite being rather active in finding catchers the last half decade, making a decision on them using their peak value hasn't gone over well.

    I wonder where he will fall on the the Van Mil/Blyleven scale of Dutch pitchers? I hope it's toward the Blyleven side in skill and the Van Mil side in height. Edit: Wow, how can you not love BBR? He batted in a game though! Edit 2: Sadly I also see that Van Mil is no longer in baseball and he's been out since 2013. It surprises me that he's been out two years but I didn't notice, it further surpises me that he hasn't been in the Twins organization since 2010. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were all talking about the 7 footer.

    I agree that I don't think Sano's comments are demeaning to starters. Of course unless only the first sentence is used, which of course is exactly what someone would do if they wanted to make it inflammatory. But if Sano is being honest and wasn't fed that line by a coach or manager, that is fantastic. Sano is hitting MLB pitching because he has a sharp understanding of how pitchers should pitch him and amatures who have no clue what they're doing are harder to read. That sounds like a poker pro describing the unpredicable nature of amature players who don't know what they're doing and make life harder for those that do simply because they don't know how the game works. If that is true, Sano should be extended based on that alone.

    Ah the three teams that knocked theTwins out of the playoffs last decade. This feels like a losing road trip, perhaps even a disasterous one. I hope this team continues to surprise and confound me, proving my expectations wrong every step of the way..

    Keeping him to the age of 32 seems about right. I don't want pitchers under conract older than that as it is. It's harsh, it's not fair to the player, but it's how the game seems to work these days. Another sucker of a team can give him a nice big contract for his decline years if he produces prior to free agency.

    The Span and Revere trandes never felt like sell high moments, but more of supply issue. The Twins thought they had enough outfielders and were lacking young starting pitching. Getting Meyer when they did didn't seem like a buy low moment either.

    I was just commenting that Ryan has previously sold guys at their low point, while acknowledging it was a different situation. I don't get the feeling Ryan is a buy low/sell high guy. He seems like he just reacts to what other GM's present to him. I'm pretty sure he's gone on record saying that he doesn't initiate deals, he waits for others to come to him. I think he makes his decisions based on necessity and supply.

    Oh barf, after watching another awful preview for what looks like another awful Fantastic Four movie I get it now. I think it's fair to assume this "Franchise Four" is some kind of cheap promo tie-in?

    I want fewer players over 30, not more. The steroid era is over, young fresh players are what drive this league. These days veteran players seem to be described by as either, a leader, wily or aging. None of those describe actual physical ability, mostly because their physical ability is declining.

    A fan vote that nailed it? Wow. I'd love for the team to embrace the Senator history, this was a charter member of the AL. It seems any time there is any kind of push to do so, the Rangers stand up and object. Legally I think the Rangers have their rights, just like the new Cleveland Browns were granted the rights to the old Browns, not the Ravens. But if I ever heard a someone try to claim Harmon Killebrewplayed for the Rangers franchise, we're going to have a problem.

    Delmon Young, Francisco Liriano and Justin Morneau might indicate otherwise. Different situations as they were about to be free agents but Ryan often deals players at their nadir when they could have been moved previously when they had more value.

    If Stewart is still a top 100 prospect next year, he'll be lucky. He's a phenom they way Nick Blackburn was a phenom. The last truly elite prospect to get a call up by the Twins was Matt Garza in 2007 . After Berrios, we might have to wait awhile.

    Before it gets too rough, I'd like to say welcome to Twins Daily and regardless of any pushback, keep posting. New members are always a plus. OF offense and defense doesn't appear to be a need at this time though.

    I'd prefer not to trade Arcia as I think he's going to be an offensive stud once he finally gets consistant MLB playing time. Still, the Twins don't have to "Win" every trade for it to be beneficial. There's just not going to be enough at bats for all the young corner bats in the pipeline. Get something or get nothing.

    I agree that shoring up the pen might be good enough to contend got the post season. If they want the big prize, they almost certainly can't run with a rotation with three #3 starters and whatever the hell Pelfrey an Milone are. This team still needs to hit gold with May, Berrios or Meyer first.

    Rosario's defense at DH certainly would be an upgrade over Sano.

    Eh, only one functioning Achilles kind of scares me. I guess I trust him more than Fien and Boyer going forward though.

    I think the team has done well with base running, just poorly with base stealing. Seems as though they are a lot better at taking the extra base when they have a running start.

    I'm not saying he should be promoted, but doesn't his initial struggles at each level indicate there likely will be a MLB struggle too? Will there ever be an opportune time for him or any rookie pitcher to work out his kinks if your team's goal is to win now?

    I agree since the number 1 trait I'd look for in a bullpen arm is the ability to strike a guy out. The rest of the rotation doesn't bring that to the table. Still, it's hard to swallow as I viewed May as one of the best, if not the best starter going forward for this team and the difference between a good reliever and even a below average starter is still usually more than 70 innings.

    I don't remember that, but it sounds about right. Carl Pohlad said the same thing to rural folks back during the depression except he was talking about their homes and farm land.

    I'd love to see May in a high leverage situation in the 8th. After he completed innings 1 through 7.
