  1. Yup, sounds dumb to say you should bring in a struggling pitcher, but with a guy on third and one out, you need a strikeout. Only two men in the bullpen can do that.
  2. Feliz has a pretty hefty arbitration figure. I'd guess the Twins balk.
  3. I saw May in a jam with runners on the corners and no outs three starts ago and bases loaded and no outs last start. In those two innings combined he didn't give up a run simply because he got five of the six needed outs on strikeouts. Milone and Pelfrey can't do that. Also, May from this spring is not the same pitcher as May since June. He has been pretty damn good lately. Which of course is another reason not to knock him out of the pen, he still has room to improve, Milone and Pelfrey are already at their ceilings.
  4. Even if that's true, and I don't believe that it is, that's only what's best for winning the most games in 2015. What's best for winning the most games in 2016 and beyond is for May to continue to develop and get as close to his peak as he can for when this team is a legit threat. That is not 2015.
  5. Since when do prospects have to be well rounded players when they are called up? That rarely happens, we're getting impatient here. These guys need regular MLB at bats, not three games here, two games here then a demotion. This club has plenty of corner possibilities, and even though these guys all probably need 500 consistant at bats at a time to figure out if they have a shot, not all of them likely get that. Now were talking about not doing that for any of them?
  6. Yeah it was the right call being up a run. I so hate pinch running for your big boppers when they're standing on first in a tie game. Especially with two outs.
  7. Sano could have scored just as easily as Robinson.
  8. Sami could have made second if they were just going to sacrifice! Auto correct better learn Sano, I'll be typing it a lot going forward.
  9. I don't think the Twins are getting additional slot money. It looks like there has already been a half dozen slot deals, meaning teams had them in place prior to the International signing period. There aren't that many teams that can or will trade their slots, most will be the team's who can't spend big this year because they did last year.
  10. Not protecting Gilmartin was the wrong move, and I don't think it can be called hindsight when 80% of the board here thought so at the time. Still, I never liked Gilmartin. Through little fault of his own, the Twins inoculated me against liking soft tossing lefty junkballers by now. Considering where Duffy is still sitting, I doubt the Twins would be using Gilmartin as a LOOGY now, he would just be another guy ahead of Berrios in the country club call up line. It was a dumb call, but it might work out because of how the Twins would have used him. Also, I'm happy with Graham's velocity, that's rare in these parts and we might get lucky when he gets re-stretched out next year in the minors.
  11. I'd like the Twins to blow their wad and take the penalty seeing as this whole flawed process will be redone in a couple years. But only nine of the top 30 players remain unsigned and I haven't heard heard of the Twins connected to any of them. This is a process where if you're going to go for it you have to decide six months or maybe a year in advance, it's too late now. I don't think teams can swoop in and romance these kids if they don't already have a relationship.
  12. If that was the sole reason, I see some merit. It's not working though, so I'm of the mind to let him do what comes natural. If that also doesn't get results, then gameplan from there. The team is bumping up Berrios to AAA with a flat fastball after all. I think it's often best to see how things play out with these guys, after all, they were drafted highly because they got results thier way. Particularly with relievers, who basically are one-trick ponies anyway. Upon drafting them it's to be expected that these guys already come with a bucket full of flaws, otherwise they'd be starters.
  13. I know I'm jumping into the middle of a mud war, but I guess my two cents is: The team needs to stop tinkering with all these relievers they draft. Why did they try to revamp Burdi's mechanics at all? He didn't have too many questions about his control in college and while he didn't look pretty throwing, so what? He's a reliever, hardly any of them look as fluid as a starter, which is why they are in the pen to begin with. I don't want my relievers looking like ballet dancers anyway, I want them to look violent and awkward enough to make the batter uncomfortable. I'd guess the Twins have shortened his stride as they do all pitchers (of course reducing his velocity) and they tried to change just about everything else about his delivery on the top end. Not all pitchers have to look the same, let this guy do his thing, scare batters with his 100 MPH heater for a few seasons, and then if it all craps out, then tinker with the mechanics. Veteran pitchers do it all the time after an injury or when velocity decreases.
  14. Agreed, I have high hopes for Kepler, but I think we're all forgeting he started the year in A bal, and here we are in July asking for him to be called up. I'm not normally against such moves, but he's been a one level a year guy, and not exactly a guy who has caught on quickly. Until this year. Side note, what the heck did the team expect Vargas to do upon his recall when they never gave him consistant at bats? Inconsistant at bats is going to happen to a ton of corner bat prospects if this team doesn't learn to manage their assets better. Time to get creative.
  15. I agree, but with Vargas down, it seems more like they at flushing out youngsters with youngsters. There is room for both Sano an Vargas if someone had the guts to do the right thing at 1B.
  16. Yeah, Ryan Wheeler was released. I can only think of one reason why they would do that. I have to say that I do feel a little guilty about being happy that a guy was released.
  17. I wonder if there is any kind of organizational preference at play here as to whom the club wants managing the young guys. Quade was a high profile get for the minor leagues and he was given the more promenant AAA gig. However, I wonder if the club still thinks Mientkiewicz is the better guy to raise the majority of the youngsters.
  18. Well if the organization's best pitching mind is at the MLB level, that's probably the best place for Meyer to be anyway.
  19. Starters pitching deep into games isn't something we're experts on here at Twinsdaily. Nor are we of blowouts for that matter.
  20. It does, and it's cruel to say, but it would be nice to pull the plug before things go bad. Most teams have stopped paying free agents for what they DID do and now hand out contracts based on what they project them to do going forward. In-season decisions should follow the same logic. Pelfrey did a great job of helping this team win early this year, but if the front office believes, as many of us do, that this isn't sustainable, they need to make the hard decision.
  21. Really not thrilled that everyone else saw Boyer's expiration date was June 1st except for the two guys who make the crucial decisions.
  22. I'm going to assume you had a couple problems with auto-correct in that sentence? I'm not sure all those words are food.
  23. I still think it's all a conspiracy. The Twins go out of their way to not give Rochester any prospects because they sell Yankee gear in their gift shop.
  24. I fully expect all rookies to struggle. The few times they don't as always a nice surprise. That's also why I'd prefer the struggles to happen in 2015 than 2016. I don't think it will happen though.
  25. This is true, but the Twins probably could have instead chosen to keep Gomez and traded Delmon Young, who Gardy kept wanting to bench because of his defense anyway. Young probably had more trade value at the time as well, due to his prospect hype not yet completly eroded.
