  1. Yup, that's the key. Managers on teams that don't get guys voted in almost always get to 'nominate' their token guy to add. I can't imagine a scenario where Dozier isn't that guy. That said, both Perkins and Dozier will be going barring injury or gigantic slump. The fans may be clueless, but the rest of the system has gotten better about getting the best players on the team.
  2. I like Kepler but he's a corner guy and showing no power this year. His low K numbers will open some eyes, but I think he'll struggle to get to the top 100 with those low power numbers. I think Hu and Gonsalves are locks if they don't fall apart in the 2nd half.
  3. After Buxton, Sano and Berrios, things get a little dicey. The system is still loaded with borderline top 100 prospects, but there doesn't seem to be any top 20 kind of guys. The early results from the drafts and International signings since 2012 have not been as prosperous.
  4. So come his preseason prospect rankings, Jay may very well be the Twins top prospect. I hope he's good, Sano and Buxton have kept the top of the Twins list sexy for quite awhile. The luster and prestige seems like it will be gone.
  5. I agree, most guys who age well seem to base their twilight years more on their power, Joe looks to be losing his. This is too bad as traditionally in sports, strength is the one physical quality that can hold up or even increase into retirement. I'm not talking about HR either. From my poorly trained eye, I think his the bat speed is greatly reduced. The line drives he hits certainly don't seem to travel far.
  6. Right, that would be Jason Kipnis and his .373 BABIP who currently sits 3rd overall in WAR. Seems kind of unfair to demand Dozier be top 2 in the league in WAR.
  7. I would have agreed last year. Coming from a guy who is as suspicious of the direction of this team as anyone: When considering his age, consistancy, and overall production in all statistical areas, if I had to pick one 2B in all of MLB to ride with over the next four years, it would be Brian Dozier.
  8. Derick Norris is ranked 4th overall for catchers. That places him at 48th of all players in baseball. Dozier menawhile is 14th overall.
  9. My expectations have long been tempered regarding rookies. That's the main reason I've been advocating to get them called up to take their lumps before the team began to expect a winning record. As far as Sano's positional debate goes, isn't playing Sano at 3B most games and Plouffe at 1B one way to attempt to remedy the uh....current 1B productivity issue?
  10. Your definition of elite seems to be pretty tight. 6 HOFers and a 1B who's first 4 seasons have put him on track to get there? Only five MLB players are currently elite? I think you're narrowing your criteria to support your batting average arguement. Dozier is 3rd out of all 2B in WAR, 2nd in the AL and 2nd in OPS. This while he has a sub-par BABIP of .289 while all of the other guys competing for the title of "Best Secondbaseman" have much less sustainable BABIP of .330+. There is easily a case to be made that Brian Dozier is the best secondbaseman in baseball right now. In my book that's elite.
  11. I get the call to calm down, he is getting guys out and could turn out to be a useable pitcher However useable pitchers aren't hard to find, and without the strikeouts he's not going to be an ace. Even if it's irrational, for me it was, and probably will always be ace or bust at the #4 pick.
  12. Agreed. There's too many replacement level and young players to put consistant runs on the board. Best to just bench, trade or DFA anyone over 26 not named Dozier and stick to what should have been the original plan. Rebuild. Plug youngsters into wherever they can fit to see if their bats can play and re-evaluate defensive positions in the offseason.
  13. Sano hasn't played 1B, but Plouffe has. In fact he played quite a bit in spring training, almost certainly in anticipation of this exact scenario. I don't know why Mauer would have earned the longest leash in baseball either. I hope he improves, and would love to see him regain his form, but a .715 OPS for a 1B/DH over his past 182 games seems like he's already had an awful long leash.
  14. I could care less how grown up he is as long as he's flipping his bat after a HR. I'm concerned about his offensive development, his maturity is his parents problem.
  15. Not a lot of things I like less than an 89 MPH fastball but an 88 MPH fastball is one of them.
  16. Not to my wife. She hates my girlfriend.
  17. Man, this decrease in velocity looks contagious.
  18. A Buxton debut and Mauer still batting third are a couple of decent comment laxatives.
  19. I put Nukes lack of strikeouts on his catcher's misguided belief that being a Fascist is a bad thing to be on the mound.
  20. Looking at YouTube videos, it sure looks like he hardly has any stride in the clips I saw of him at CR and Ft Myers. His HS videos didn't show a huge stride, but it was definitely longer than it is as a pro. Short strides certainly seems to be an organizational thing and often times a big killer of velocity.
  21. Strikeout numbers don't generally increase as players age or move up levels. Unless the organization is doing something unorthodox with him, I think what we see now is what we should expect going forward.
  22. Its been concerning since last year. I'm sure it's not because of some kind of mandate, but Gibson and Pelfrey also have good velocity, a high groundball rate and poor strikeout numbers. I do wonder if there is some organizational instruction that plays a part in the franchise's inability to miss bats.
  23. I wasn't expecting them to win this year. I hope We were all wrong but I think the only hope for winning now or in the future is the development of the prospects. I'm really not opposed to trading the prospects, there is too much redundancy, I'm just mostly opposed to taking on more vets and/or long term deals; the team already is tied to some regrettable deals. Ideally I'd prefer to flip some of the Twins redundancy for non-40 man youngsters. After the AA crop the system looks pretty thin anyway. I'd also respect Ryan a ton more if he gave the fans the finger this year. That would be gutsy. I also don't think trading Plouffe, Pelfrey, Milone, Fein or whomever would actually impact the record as much as it would impact public relations.
  24. Just about every team is in it so far this year, a team would get fleeced trying to buy someone as the records stand now. I know I'll get ripped apart for saying it, but if the Twins want to win long term, they should be one of the few sellers, particularly since for the first time in years they might actually have some attractive pieces.
  25. Yes. It would be different if he played a different position, but 1B could be used for a number of different players.
