  1. I agree, not sure an NL team would though.
  2. I endorse this idea, though I don't get the Tonkin talk. I see Graham going the distance.
  3. I agree, it might be a huge crapshoot though. The alternative almost certainly is letting guys waste away and getting nothing for them. This situation happened a dozen years ago or so when young Hunter and Jones were locked into the OF and the Twins had younger Cuddyer, Kubel, Brian Buchanon, Michael Restovich, Michael Ryan, Bobby Kielty, Dustin Mohr, Garrett Jones and Lew Ford crushing the upper minors in about a four year stretch. They did well flipping Buchanon and Kielty. They need to do this again. They did OK last decade, but could have done better. Even moving two players didn't clear enough room to give Ryan, Restovich and Jones an honest look, and those guys were highly thought of prospects.
  4. When he first came over, most people assumed he would start eventually. He never did, mostly because the Reds had a ton of young talented arms and they were winning with Chapman in the pen. That ship has probably sailed, but if the front office thought they might be able to stretch him out for 2016 all while paying closer prices, I'd listen. Of course we would have to listen to 1996 Rick Aguilera comparisons for awhile.
  5. Seriously, this thread too?
  6. There's never going to be room enough to give all the youngsters a fair shot. I'd trade Kepler/Harrison/Arcia/Rosario/Hicks/Pinto types even if we don't get equal value, because I really doubt we are ever going to see what some of these guys can do if they don't get consistant 500 or so at bats in a season, and as it is, most of these guys will be lucky to get half that.
  7. My guess is they told the kids it was time for bunting practice. I've seen Oswaldo Arcia do the same thing.
  8. Anyone know what his velocity is sitting at these days? It seemed to me he was getting results last year despite a lower velocity than his pre-draft hype. He was always listed as a guy with room to grow though.
  9. Sounds like a logical actual baseball related discussion to have. My attempts to push all the redundant and devisive negative/positive threads off of the front of the homepage is failing it seems. If anyone wants to join me in other topics, I'll see you guys and gals in those forums.
  10. Twins win 6-2. Let's talk baseball. Or at least what ever it is that game threads are classified as.
  11. I wonder why one needs to stick a fork in something to tell if it's done? Does no one have a meat thermometer?
  12. Not the worst, but definately among his worst.
  13. Dang, at least it was a day game though. I can't really follow those at work.
  14. Awesome stuff Buhr. My 4 year old is in a tee-ball camp for the next couple weeks. I'm more excited than he is, but I love this stuff that gets the kids to start paying attention to the game. We need the younger generations.
  15. Not a fan of a six man rotation, but I do like reading about actual baseball related topics.
  16. Nice first post, though I think the "negativity" is probably being mis-interpreted. I don't think many are "negative" about the actual team, more so the aspects they think should be improved. Everyone was pretty excited back in 1987, but it didn't stop people from commenting on how thin the starting pitching depth was once you got past the number 2 spot in the rotation.
  17. I didn't read the article yet, but I think a big hand has to go to the starters, and perhaps more importantly Molitor, for letting the starters finish the innings. The bullpen may be doing a fine job, but I think it's mostly because they aren't having to deal with many inherited runners. This guys don't miss bats aside from Perkins, so in years past, when the starters would get in trouble in the sixth and get pulled with one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the guy on 3rd was going to score every damn time it seemed. Now these guys are coming in with bases empty. Well except when they relieve Stauffer.
  18. I tried to do a thread like this a couple years ago. I got ripped apart like the Cleveland bullpen facing the top of the Twins lineup.
  19. I think he's playing 3B down at AA right now. Of course calling him up may displace the current #4 hitter, which may mean prospective #5 hitter in AA becomes the MLB #4 hitter, which means we still actually need a #5 hitter. This paradox could collapse the enitre universe if it's not handled correctly, no pressure Mr. Ryan.
  20. It will probably take an injury to get him off the 25-man roster. Seeing as that looks to have happened, prior to the original post even, it would seem like this topic should be tabled once again.
  21. You need to look at the 2010 ERA then. But for the love of God, don't let your eyes wander and gaze at the numbers above, below or especially to the the right of that 2010 ERA.
  22. The Twins also let Parmelee go, who had similar AAA success, spotty MLB results and the same positional (in)flexibility. Parmelee was also younger and a long time organizational guy. I'd guess the team was pretty deadest on signing Hunter and figured they had no room for that type of player.
  23. I'd never call a player, or probably anyone other than a Nazi child molester "trash", but I'm more than a little concerned about that K rate. There's not much precedent for pitchers significantly increasing their K rate in the higher minors and at the MLB. That's a figure that tends to decrease if anything. If things don't change by the end of the year, I'll probably be close to writing him off. I take that back. There is some precedent for increasing K numbers, but those guys all seem to be crafty, soft-tossing, control pitchers, usually lefties, who we tend to label as AAAA junkballers. That doesn't seem to describe Stewart and if it did, he wouldn't be a prospect any more than Matt Albers was a prospect.
