  1. Yes, but then if we are using WAR when considering how helpful he is to the team we can't simply give him an N/A for the times he sits on the bench, we would need to be subtracting Santana's negative WAR from his total. It wouldn't take much of a decline from Tulowitzki for that number to become a Push.
  2. No, I just care that much less about defense than I do offense. Besides, Dozier wouldn't be half as helpless as you'd imply. Santana's UZR is -9.7 and the guy that's splitting the site in half, Troy Tulowitzky is at -7.7. Dozier is a better defensive 2B than Stephen Drew and Chris Owings who both player SS last year.
  3. So, every other season this century the Twins could have used a decent starter upgrade but it would have cost a ton. The year they don't....
  4. Well of course. Those weren't high on my list of favorite things either. The funny thing is, the longer a player is in the league, the more endearing he becomes to me.
  5. I understand that side, and I know I am stereotyping a whole age group (me included) but if it's me, I'm making my judgments based on recent trends more so than current results. Only three of the All-Star starters were over 30 this year and these long term contracts have been going belly up since right about the time Kevin Brown got a mega-deal. His strikouts are up, his speed is gone and his range is follwing his speed rigtout the door. Without even considering park or league factors, he looks like he's one step away from becoming a corner player which this team does not need more of. This game is for youngsters now. Aging sucks, but it sucks most for pitchers and shortstops.
  6. I guess my desire to say the same caused me to overestimate my originality.
  7. I'm guessing Hunter wouldn't or couldn't be moved, but this is the kind of trade I'm interested in. The O's certainly like Twins hitters, I wonder if Arcia could be a piece.
  8. 2015 was not supposed to be a winning season. The long term game plan should not be scrapped chasing something that logic says is still quite unlikely. The experienced veterans aren't talented enough to win it all and the talented rookies aren't experienced enough to win it all. I can handle coming up short again this year. I can't handle coming up short again this year AND losing top prospects AND getting tied down with more albatross contracts. Go ahead and get some rental players or trade some of the prospects for young, controlable long term players even if the trade doesn't quite look fair in the Twins favor. Just no more expensive vets please.
  9. Tulo was a Hall of Fame player. Rarely do even Hall of Famers put up numbers in their 30's that would be worthy of consideration, they build their resume based on the work in their 20's and coast in should they be fortunate enough to remain healthy and productive to play into their mid-to-late 30's.
  10. This just feels like a mom shopping with her young kid. No you can't have a Tulowitzki. You just begged me to buy you a Nolasco and a Santana and I told you that you wouldn't like them. Now you never want to play with them. Money doesn't grow on trees.
  11. Should have been in the second. Or he just should have recused himself as soon as he saw who was behind the plate.
  12. I think we're out of luck with West. He's such a diva he has surely planned his on field death for a high profile Yankee/Red Sox playoff game.
  13. So what your saying is that you hope it happens tonight on camera, just so his last moments could be document and celebrated throughout history.
  14. Do other teams despise Joe West as much as the Twins?
  15. I think the problem is that they thought they did, three times in the last two years actually. I don't want them signing an ace, that rarely works out for the team. I want them to develop their own, just like winning clubs do, then sign and extend him with money not already wasted on declining vets. I'd be on board with trying for Tulowitzki or Cole Hammels if this club hadn't already foolishly gave big fat deals to Mauer, Nolasco, Santana and Hughes. There's only 25 spots on the active roster, the Twins are supposed to lock up 20% of them on untradable and uncuttable aging players? It's not going to be pretty in a couple years when the team realistically should be a contender.
  16. Yeah, his perceived value is going to be high in Colorado, he's the face of their franchise. Any idea that the Twins can buy low on his is probably out of the question as the Rockies front office is going to have to deal with the aftermath.
  17. So Tulo is the ace? For anyone who wants to get one in free agency, it will absolutely not happen with Tulowitzki under contract along with Mauer, Nolasco, Santana and Hughes. Tull does not put this team over the top, don't tie up the future for 2015.
  18. Oh the follow up is easy. It's hoping the internet forgets how terrible we are at this that is the hard part: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/17062-2015-mlb-overunder-contest-win-big/ http://twinsdaily.com/topic/9673-2014-mlb-overunder-contest11-win-big/
  19. Some of those seemed pretty aggressive.
  20. Considering how often the Rockies have had to use their other middle infielders when Tulowitzki is on the shelf, there's still plenty room for Santana or Polanco. Trading for Tulowitzki would excite me for 2015 and then I'd spend the next five years filled with dread waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don't know what scares me more, having to give up one of the young top arms which this team so desperately needs, or being tied to another giant contract that may prohibit the extension of any or all of Sano, Buxton, Berrios or anyone that is deserving. I'm a big picture guy, and I can't see Tulowitzki winning this team a WS in 2015 unless he turned into an ace starter who also moonlights as a set up guy between starts. If this team is only allowed to have one glaring offensive hole, can't it be SS? The cheaper option in terms of prospects and dollars is to fix the catcher spot in the off season.
  21. I think you're underestimating the size of the prize in the conversation. If the Yankees or Red Sox had had a conversation with the Rockies about Tulowitzki's favorite flavor of ice cream it would lead off SportsCenter. Though to be fair, I check out MLBTR a ton, I haven't watched SportsCenter since about when Tulowitzki was a rookie.
  22. I think Meyer has another year of regression to go before he qualifies for a rule. He was still a top 50 prospect heading into the season, three months won't knock him down to the level of a one dimensional non-top prospect like ABW. Meyer may not be able to headline a major trade at this point, but he'd be one of the bigger pieces.
  23. And even if he does stay on the field, I can't imagine it will be at SS for long and 1B, 2B, 3B and the corner OF spots already have occupancy issues.
  24. Good scoop, but you know Jeremy, if you are looking to further your jounalistic career, you might want to consider breaking this news on something a little more high profile than Twinsdaily! Either way, we know MLBTR monitors this site, they may pick up on this and credit you.
  25. Just when we were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with the Mauer contract...
