  1. Most sinkerballers don't end up striking many batters out. They also don't usually have long careers. Give up the pitch, use the slider and the plus velocity to get batters out. Gibson too.
  2. I didn't want another declining 30+ year old who is still under contract next year. I wanted the team to get rid of those kind of players.
  3. Dear lord, please don't let Detroit get one of the Mets young stud arms for Cespedes.
  4. When reports yesterday said the Twins were looking for controllable relief pitchers, I thought that meant a young guy like Jske McGee or Carter Capps. I just didn't think they'd get a 30+ year old journeyman with declining velocity. Why?! Ryan's love of vets only makes me resent them so much more.
  5. I just don't know why you'd bother. Why trade for this guy who hasn't been good this year instead of promoting the young guys? This was just making a trade to make it look like the are trying. No reason for this, bring Duffy or Berrios orTonkin or Wimmers or Achter instead.
  6. Well we have been starved for any kind of homegrown starting pitching for a loooooong time around here. As they've actually been drafting relief pitchers at the expense of starters, dealing one of the only starters with any kind of upside for another reliever with none is going to be an annoyance. Probably the biggest issue and the cause for over reaction is due to the fact that we've been waiting around for weeks with anticipation and we end up with something extremely uninspiring.
  7. True, but Cishek and Papelbon went for less and this guy you could have probably got in August for a PTBNL.
  8. I could have sworn Ryan just said something about not making a trade for the sake of making a trade, and that he wasn't going to force anything.
  9. Out of touch. The disdain for young pitchers by this organization is unforgivable. Why not just call up any number of AA or AAA arms.
  10. Right, but if it's a trade for Tonkin, why not just call up Tonkin? Not that losing Tonkin would depress me or anything.
  11. Ha, yes this makes so little sense that it would make perfect sense.
  12. Two sounds like two too many. They better be named Adrian Salcedo and Matt Summer.
  13. Yeah sorry, I had this thread confused with the list of 1000 baseball player thread for a moment.
  14. Ok, can't keep refreshing MLBTR the next two hours. Prediction time for me. No reason to believe for it to happen but I'll guess a big deal: Shields, Benoit, Norris and Clint Barmes to the Twins for Nolasco, Milone, Kohl Stewart, Duffy, Danny Santana, Arcia and the Twins 2016 comp pick.
  15. It's not that Jim's opinion that matters when it comes to change.
  16. I don't see where there's room for all of Rosario, Hicks, Buxton, Arcia, Sano, Plouffe, Mauer, Kepler, Pinto, Vargas and Harrison to all get legit MLB time.
  17. I would generally never question a player's effort or desire in relation to his contract status. However this guy's attitude and commitment levels were questioned before he got his huge extension, and he sure looks like he doesn't care anymore now.
  18. The prospect part might be different, but the glut of corner OF wasnt. Hunter and Jones were locked in in the OF with Keilty, Mohr, Cuddyer and Ford all getting reps. Meanwhile Kubel, Restovich, Garrett Jones and Micheal Ryan were all options in the minors and serious options, these were legit prospects. I can't recall if Buchanon had been moved yet, but there were a ton of options. The trades for Stewart and Bartlet were made because of the glut and the Twins STILL let plenty of chips go to waste. Restovich in particular could have probably been used for a nice trade and he barely got a chance at the MLB level. I'm pretty picky about the type of trade I'd like, but I don't want the current group of talent to go to waste.
  19. If Ryan can't handle multiple trade fronts, he shouldn't be the GM. All the other teams who are actually active buyers seem to be in talks with multiple teams and are discussing multiple options. If Ryan is simply waiting for SD to make a decision, Preller isn't being sneaky Ryan is just being stubborn using his self-aknowledged approach of making other clubs come to him and not initiating deals. Of course full disclosure, I'm more than OK not cruising for ugly contracts and aging vets. I won't be when this team is ready to win though. And Fernando Rodney? I'd check his stats first. Yuk.
  20. Didn't Ryan say that he'll only make a trade if it's not forced? That doesn't sound like an aggressive trade stance. Also, your last sentence makes me think if the trade is say for Fernando Rodney, you're still going to champion Ryan as making a trade to satisfy his "promise".
  21. Terry Ryan welcoming his 2016 free agent class to Minnesota.
  22. Who sits for Cespedes? If this team improves, corner OF isn't the spot.
  23. Yes, this is what I've been waiting for for half a decade it seems. Keep 'me coming, More young'ens please.
  24. Yes, I've voiced this frustration. They should be able to luck their way into drafting an ace once in awhile. It's worse than just 34 years though, this club has only drafted and developed two aces in its history, and funny thing was, No one knew Blyleven was an ace until after he retired. Dave Boswell might have been Buber three had he not gotten hurt.
  25. Yes, this is the issue. If Ryan were to say that he likes what the team is building and doesn't want to part with young players for aging vets or rentals, it would be an understandable position, maybe not agreeable to many people but understandable. This gibberish about White Knights and "forcing" deals just sounds like hogwash to fool the fans.
