  1. I just heard from Christian Ponder and he says he's never been more offended. He thinks you failed to mark the cut off at top 12 overall picks simply to spite him.
  2. McCarthy has the physical talent. So like Smith, Mayfield and Darnold, if I had to bet, at some point the Vikings will be proven wrong. But not until his rookie contract is up, and likely not until he's been humbled and has to rebuild his identity. And I'll accept that. I'm not sure if Browns fans like Mayfield or Jets fans like Smith or Darnold. But if McCarthy turns into a grown up and becomes good for another team four years from now, I'll pledge right now that I'll keep any resentment to my self and put on a happy face for him.
  3. I really want to believe this because it would indicate the Vikings may still be on the right track, but I'm still skeptical. Mostly because of the leaks regarding Daniel Jones. So what I'm hearing via Mike Florio, is that someone (obviously KAM) wanted McCarthy and ignored everyone else; Darnold, Jones and Aaron Rodgers. And Florio's implication was that KOC truly wanted Jones to be his QB and was advocating for the Vikings to sign him. Jones decided against this as he'd have a better shot at starting in Indianapolis. That is where the logic falls apart for me. Because while KAM may have had absolute authority over the roster, (eh, maybe???) it would be undeniable that KOC had absolute authority over who takes the field. If KOC really was upset about losing Jones and being stuck with McCarthy, all he'd have to do is tell Jones and his agent, come back to Minnesota, I guarantee you will be the starter. I really do want to believe, and I still believe KOC can be a great head coach, but with KAM gone, a lot of this smells like a spin job. It's Ok if KOC liked JMac, but just like the rest of us has since changed his mind. Despite what some think, changing your mind isn't a character flaw.
  4. I'll say I'm annoyed by the immaturity. But for years I've said I don't need a QB I want to hang out with, I need one who has the talent and ego enough to carry a team to a championship. So I won't demand maturity if the elite effort and production are there. But in this case, I 100% believe the immaturity is the root cause of McCarthy's problems. A good part due to inexperience, which is not his fault. But another good part due to things that may be related to study, effort and other between the ears issues. Way too tone deaf too.
  5. I hate this stuff so much. Not because I care much about gambling, but I do care how many uncontrolled faucets are pouring money to the people who absolutely have no need for it and won't reinvest it back into the economy. Come on middle class, don't be suckered. If you think you have disposable income to spend, great, spend it locally. Food, shopping, entertainment. The economy isn't going to improve if you're shoveling it to Wall Street and foreign investors.
  6. Well most reports suggest Zoll, who has been the GM for over a year now, was in fact acting as the GM this entire time. Therefor, Outman and Bell would be his players, and quite possibly Clemens as well.
  7. I don't think there's much of a chance that Outman and Clemens get more than a PTBNL or cash considerations. Even if they played acceptably, no team is going to see that for more than a small sample size fluke. Larnach's salary has got to put him near that side of the scale as well.
  8. Not sure many teams would want to roster both Jackson and Larnach. The headline had me come here thinking we were talking about the Twins trading for another post-hype prospect, Jackson Holliday.
  9. I don't know about his PFF grades, but I do know he was the better fit for Jefferson. 34 catches for 477 yards in the five games they played together, and those games included by far the three toughest defenses the Vikings played last year. That was over 40% of his season output in five games and that pace was better than Jefferson had with Darnold. Anyway, not a Wentz endorsement so much as another plea to keep McCarthy off of the field and a desire to keep Jefferson active and happy.
  10. Wentz picked up the offense in a month and McCarthy couldn't pick it up in two years. Not surprising as Wentz was a well travelled veteran, but I think there's little chance McCarthy would beat out Wentz. Back up QBs are almost always the low ceiling high floor guys who help with preparation beyond what happens on the field. When we find out Wentz's salary, maybe that will tell us something. Minshew got 5.7M, Trubisky got 5.2M AAV, Mariota got 7M. Lance got 6.7M. If Wentz is getting something in that range, I have a hard time seeing him being a healthy scratch on game days.
  11. Yeah, oddly, this move makes it look more like KOC has given up on him than the move to sign Murray. They had talked about adding 'competition' for the starting job all offseason. Now they've added 'competition' for the back up job? Not that it was ever much a consideration for me, but what do you get for McCarthy? Trey Lance only got a 4th, though I think he had one less year of control. Darnold got traded for a 2nd and and 4th and a 6th though that 2nd was for TWO drafts out. I'd take a 2027 2nd for sure.
  12. Ha, and now Dortch is going to the Lions. Maybe we should stop brining up the players we're still interested in.
  13. Wow yeah, Epenesa looks like a underrated high pressure guy. He'd be a fantastic rotational piece. I'd be interested in Dante Fowler too. I'm not sure about Dortch unless KOC changes his playbook. Seems like a lot of Dortch's plays were manufactured touches closer to the line of scrimmage. The Vikings don't seem to do a lot of that stuff, and when they do, it's with Jefferson, and I'm in favor of Jefferson getting as much work as possible. With Murray at QB, I think I'd like a big bodied slot WR this year. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine maybe? How much will Keenan Allen cost? Can't be too much. Edit: Westbook-Ikhine is now off the board. I have to say, 2026 is becoming a terribly boring year to play Guess the Vikings Free Agent Signings.
  14. Ah it's that special time of year where hope blooms and we can debate the merits of a guy with a .529 OPS last year vs a guy with a .296 OPS last year. For what it's worth, I'm quite confident that when you get to something like a .650 OPS, the laws of diminishing returns really starts kicking in. Or take any offensive stat you want like wRC+. When you get to be this much of a liability offensively, how many more wins are you actually going to have using the 33 wRC+ guy instead of the -12 wRC+ guy? One? Probably none? Obviously neither are coming through when you need them and it's to the point where it would be a fluke if either did. So who do you want.....? Ummmmmm, pass? Let's just skip shortstop this year and start two DHs instead. There's lots of guys that can play that position.
  15. Hopefully they get him. Not sure what the Bills cap situation is. The Vikings also signed formerly great car salesman Denny Hecker punter Johnny Hekker. They of course had to do that because their salary cap situation is so bleak they couldn't afford to retain their punter. That sentence has surely never been uttered before.
  16. The Raiders definitely tanked the last two games. I don't think the Cardinals tanked but I also don't believe Murray was significantly injured. I think they sat him to protect themselves financially and were foolish enough to think they could trade him. Same with the Dolphins and Tua. The Browns didn't tank; their defense played lights out through the end of the year. But offensively there probably hasn't been a noticeable difference between the Browns tanking and the Browns playing their hearts out this century so anyone who assumes so should be given equal consideration.
  17. Pittman and Courtland Sutton seem like the same player though, both are big bodied possession receivers who move the chains but don't get you anything after the catch. Waddle still gets moved all over the formation and previously still looked pretty electric after the catch. Last year was a down year, but his whole team was a mess.
  18. I'd much prefer Waddle, but I completely agree that draft values for existing players is really, really skewed. Either you're worth a 1st, maaaaaaybe a 2nd. And then any talent drop off after that goes to about the 6th round. Unless you're the Vikings trading for a washed-up Adam Thielen then you have to give up a 4th.
  19. Yeah, these guys and Arcia are all the same to me, but they have always kept at least two on the 40-man roster, along with Arcia as the safety net on the MiLB deal. Again, I'm not saying 'no', but I think the Twins think rostering such players is more precious than it really should be.
  20. I'm all for removing Gray and/or Kreidler, but I'll guess the Twins are less comfortable DFA'ing the shortstops.
  21. If they do, I hope it's with their 11th pick because I don't know that I like more than three of them as first round picks this year, and I'll guess Lemon, Tate and Tyson are all gone by pick 30. I kind of take that back, I don't hope for anything really. I'm not Dolphins fan. They can stink as long as they want to for all I care.
  22. Found him. Alika Williams. Non-roster invite to the Pirates camp. Played for Shelton in 2023 and 2024. Hitting pretty well this spring too, but I don't see any Pirate roster predictions giving him a spot. Just for fun of course. Unless I'm right then I totally called it.
  23. I'd guess having to add Arcia to the 40-man would tilt the scales in Kreidler's favor. Not sure Arcia would opt out; shortstop isn't as bereft of talent around the league as it used to be. For most teams. But I could also see a 4th option: a glove-first guy who's released by another team that the Twins won't rue returning back to waivers in a week or two when the roster calls for it.
