  1. So he didn't like the pitch sequencing? Looks like he throw 98 pitches while facing 27 batters, so he averaged 2.75 pitches per batter. Meanwhile he has averaged 4 pitches per batter on the season. So efficiency wasn't an issue; he must have thought the wrong pitches were called on the 8 hits (and two HR) he gave up. Eight hits were the most he gave up since his second start of the year so that seems likely to be the irritation and what he views as a lack of 'length'. Yeah, I don't know, so six too many four-seamers and three too few curves and sliders? Not sure there's much to dwell on here Joe. You just faced the White Sox, you probably don't want to do the EXACT same thing as last outing.
  2. How about the Twins elbow their way into the inner circle of MLB owners for once, so they can get a feel for how the economic side of things are going to look next summer. Because if they are going to be FORCED to increase payroll, I'd rather do it with an overpay on a QO or extension for a good player who might not age as well, than spend it on five more Josh Bell types.
  3. Not one team was willing to toss in 26-year-old AAA relief pitcher? Or that wasn't the ask?
  4. I think we need to Mad Libs this title now. Twins Acquire Justin Lawrence to (verb) Bullpen
  5. A Pirate pitcher who overuses a sinker? I thought they stopped doing that.
  6. I also think Miami is tanking. And maybe in the stupidest way. No attempt at a passing game and a 185 lb RB? They're going to destroy one of the leagues best young ball carriers the season they gave him a contract extension.
  7. Maybe if it's for an expiring contract. As a starter this guy doesn't miss bats so chances are it would soon be in the Twins best interest to also put him in the pen.
  8. Yeah, definitely don't care about the trade angle any longer. If you want a different excuse, I'd offer the Kevin Slowey; perhaps SWR dug his heels in and said he'd stay in the bullpen when hell freezes over. I'd think there'd have been at least SOME hint of that dissent though.
  9. Agree they need playmaker to handle the ball. It does seem like this organization is intentionally creating a collaborative culture though, and Morant can be divisive. I'd guess they chase the slightly less divisive Kyrie Irving instead.
  10. Maybe this is why the Cardinals aren't bothering rostering QBs this year? They're sitting back laughing at SF and Seattle assuming Purdy and Darnold are going to need to schedule funerals this season.
  11. This honestly feels like a BIG market club move. A team that doesn't sweat paying big money to big relievers. It's just so weird that the same franchise that turned the similarly strikeout challenged Griffin Jax into a swing-and-miss artist by making him a single inning reliever, never even bothered to try it again. This looks like Terry Ryan's blunder with Liam Hendricks. Also interesting that SWR right this minute is still younger than Jax was when he debuted. I also fear we're going to see more of this if someone in the front office doesn't speak up and point out exactly how it was that they ended up with Taylor Rogers, Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax and Louis Varland in the first place. If they knew poor performance as a starter could lead to a DFA before June, SWR should have never, ever, ever been given the ball in the 1st inning at any time this year, because his peripherals said a poor performance as a starter was always a high possibility.
  12. Pretty sure the headline of this article proves not all front offices think the same.
  13. If the Twins think he's the best bet to hold down a spot in the middle of the order for the next half decade, great, make the pick. If they simply think he's a good hitting catcher, no, don't. The Twins catcher situation has looked bleak since Mauer moved to 1B, but it's never actually been bleak. The bar for the position is just so, so low, and in just about every season, someone always jumps that bar by a mile. Fixing the offense should be so much more of a priority than fixing a specific position.
  14. This does a lot to assuage my worries that KOC was going to be secretly making all the decisions.
  15. The owners have come out with their initial proposal, 240M cap but also a 170M floor. And 50/50 revenue split. As anti-owner as I am, that has me encouraged. I thought the owners would go for a floor but make the MLBPA ask for it as a concession. And a 70M gap between floor and ceiling certainly make things more competitive.
  16. Two questions: Why did the Giants cut loose a 2023 5th round draft pick? Is their system loaded? Is this normal but I'm just used to the Twins grasping on to every prospect for as long as possible? And, why is Raya still going three innings? That's no different than starting. Long-relievers are waiver-wire pick ups or the soft-tossing starters who don't have the juice to be late inning relievers. It's a spot that usually is used for inning eating garbage time. There's a reason the Twins never have the same guy doing this job each year; it's an expendable position. Transitioning him to a three inning reliever does absolutely NOTHING. If they actually want to find out if he can transition to a good reliever, one inning. That's it. This nonsense is really frustrating sometimes.
  17. I liked that they finally decided against him being a multi inning pitcher, as he should definitely be a one inning guy. Too bad they turned him into a 1/3 inning guy instead.
  18. If you call up your number ten prospect and bat him fifth in the lineup, that probably means your lineup isn't terribly strong and you should have found another player to send back down. Or release.
  19. I'd think the players would develop more playing a half season of MLB baseball than they would an extra few weeks of AAA next spring. But really, there could be any number of unexpected provisions and concessions that could impact the Twins one way or another. Changes in service time or minimum pay. Heck the MLBPA could finally tie in the minor leaguers in an attempt to keep the owners from manipulating them as listed above. And there's zero chance the Pohlad's are in the inner circle of MLB owners; they likely won't have the fast track to a game plan like the active and powerful owners will have. When the other pro leagues went to revenue sharing with salary caps and floors decades past, those movements where driven by the tenured mid/low market owners. The Pohlad's are the longest tenured ownership family outside of New York and Chicago, and they've forever sat on their hands while they watching their contemporaries in other leagues fight for parity. I expect them to be sheep here again and figure out how to operate after the other clubs have shown them how to do it.
  20. Well my snarky response was going to be, 'Because he hasn't faced the Twins yet'. But then checking his opponents, it possibly does shed some light: Not exactly great competition he's been facing. Still, those numbers would be impressive against AAA players.
  21. And good for every team in the NFC, but bad for the sport as a whole.
  22. No one's exonerating Lewis. I'm simply point out that I personally am not holding it against him for not following the advice of a group of coaches who had a seven year track record of failing to install productive advice on every player before him.
  23. Yeah, it would be fun if those two had a power struggle. McVey would win hands down and I'd happily welcome Les Snead as the GM here. But I'm quite confident the same thing happened with Lynch and Shanahan regarding Trey Lance. Those two kissed and made up.
  24. No, his comments may be to blame for why people don't like him (but sure seemed plenty didn't like him prior to that). But I don't know how anyone can definitively say he's solely to blame for his lack of development, when 90% of the fans were saying Rocco Baldelli wasn't a good coach for the past several years. 24-year-olds barely know how to do their own laundry, but they're supposed to understand how to adjust their swing plans, understand pitch sequencing and all the other minutia that comes with being a 21st Century MLB hitter?
  25. And to be fair, I'm not sure I've heard KOC say anything on this narrative that KAM was responsible and at fault for the sins of the past; it does seem to be fan and media driven. But KOC is not objecting to it and is clearly using the narrative to solidify and improve his status within the organization.
