    Yeah, but he's getting paid less than Carson Wentz, so it wasn't a huge gamble. At least it wasn't Tua. Wait, would we have rather had Tua?!?!? Eeesh.

    I wonder what the Raiders record would have to be before they decide to swap out Cousins for Mendoza? I'm thinking they'd need to hit .500. They're riding higher now than they have in a decade. Not just with the wins, but they're getting way more positive national publicity then they have in years.

    He can't even get away from the defensive lineman that are constantly in the backfield. I'm guessing he's lost several steps.

    But he's not depth, because if you tender him, they will 100% be stuck starting him. He can't go to AAA. And throwing 85 MPH fastballs is absolutely not acceptable for the bullpen. The Twins are constantly doing this; deciding between 'depth' and rostering the best team. And it always backfires. Roster your best players, because these vet 'depth' players can almost always be just a easily replicated off of the waiver wire. Add to the TOP of the roster, and push guys like Ober down or off of the roster. That's wat winning teams do. And I like Ober, he's been an unexpectedly good Twin. He'll always have a special spot in Twins lore.

    If they need him to beat the Dolphins, then we already know it’s time to focus on 2027.

    Well, the league suspended Jed York six games. I guess the 49ers season is over; not sure how a team can be expected to win without its owner.

    Both Lee and Clemens were excellent surprises this year, but I don't think I pencil both into the starting lineup, and might look to move one of them. Both really struggle getting on base and I think an underdiscussed cause of inconsistent team hitting, is rostering too many of these kinds of players. Month to month and especially year to year, these types of players are unpredictable because they can't balance out a cold hitting streak with drawing enough walks to make them useful. Keeping Lee is preferable to me as he's younger and is more likely to improve. And I'd be good keeping both if they both weren't everyday starters.

    Speaking of, I have a more popular take: Aaron Rodgers does suck now. In pretty much every sense.

    Unpopular take: Deshaun Watson doesn't suck anymore. I mean as a quarterback. In every other sense he still sucks.

    That would mean Kirk Cousins is going back to Washington to replace him next year? Ugh. Then obviously the Vikings will sign Cousins again when he's about 48.

    Royce's hot and cold streaks line up pretty much exactly with the Twins hot and cold streaks. I think the Twins will be much better next year, so I see the argument for keeping him, on the other hand, having a guy who will be absolutely no help pulling the team out of a funk isn't a great fit for a mid-market team that's not already loaded with stars. So if they trade him, just don't trade him to a good team. Or if they do, just be ready to accept there's a really good chance that he will make the team look bad for doing so.

    I said to reject them because of outdated pitching philosophies. And why do they have to shop in-network? They don't have to bring in someone Zoll or Shelton are pals with. That's how the Twins got stale during Terry Ryan's tenure. If what we currently have is not working, then bring in new voices.

    I'm down for both of those options, but Herbert would still be an 86M dead cap hit for the Chargers. I can't see the Chargers eating that unless he's as bad as Tua was. And then I probably wouldn't want him; it would be this Kyler Murray experiment again. Stafford would be a 38M dead cap hit. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but his contract kind of implies that either he'll play for the Rams or he'll retire. But like you said, dark horse.

    That won't keep him here. He's going to shatter the AAV on the catching market because there are next to no good free agents this year and the CBA is going away in December so the teams that want to get a competitive advantage before it does are going to spend like drunken sailors. And I'm on board with the Twins paying way more to keep him.

    Hadn't considered that, but that's a solid idea if the Twins find themselves with two really good catchers.

    The Pirates had a brand new pitching coach last year. I don't have a problem with Shelton, but I don't want him starting up his own country club here any more than I liked Terry Ryan doing it. Even setting aside the issue of pitchers intentionally putting the ball in play, his Pirates teams were not good, there should be no initiative to let him put his band back together. Fresh voices only please.

    Hadn't thought about trading FOR Cousins. My immediate thought was hell no. But I might come around on that. I just want to watch a fun offense and a QB that can get Jefferson the ball. But next year, if it's Cousins, that almost certainly means they'll draft somebody again. Which is my preferred path. Cousins became a 'bridge QB' way too early, but he'll be 39 next year so I don't see him escaping that label. My spreadsheet shows Cousins, Jacoby Brissett, Geno Smith, Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray as the current starters who'll be free agents next year. And then Mac Jones who is presumed to be the most coveted, so unless his new team pulls an Atlanta Falcons, he's likely not going to be a bridge guy. It might be a bit humbling, but if the Vikings do what the Raiders are doing this year with their QBs, I can live with that. And really, if they don't go that route, (nor the Mac Jones route) then it's probably Rookie QB starting day 1 with a veteran worse than Cousins as his backup. So Andy Dalton with the Panthers or Joe Flacco with the Jets. In that scenario I would bet my bottom dollar that the veteran would be the one who is already here and seems more than content to now be a backup. I'm guessing that scenario would go over even worse with the fans.

    I don't want any pitching coaches from Pittsburgh. They went a decade and a half making pitchers throw sinkers to induce contact instead of four seamers to get strikeouts and keep balls out of play. It was a stubborn old school approach that spat in the face of logic. And seriously, we just spent six months complaining about the Twins infield defense.

    And if we were having serious conversations about which of the two QBs should be starting week 4, that probably means at least one of them has the wrong color. Absolutely zero shade to Danchat though. I always enjoy that spreadsheet and I know how much thought, effort and knowledge he puts into his Vikings posts.

    Which means it's crowd sourcing. The most active Reddit poster probably has more influence on PFF now than any real football person.

    If a rookie RB can’t pass block, he’s going to struggle to get on the field. We see it every year. So what’s crazy about this is that pass blocking ability is something you can pretty confidently predict based on college game tape. And even crazier, the coaches KNOW they aren’t going to let a poor pass blocking rookie back mess up his QB, yet they still pick these guys. And not just KOC, so many coaches do this.
