  1. I guess I didn't see in the trailer that motivations were changed entirely. Perhaps they will be but I thought the trailer covered about 1% of what's happening in the story. Also as to how the trailer was heavy on Jake, perhaps the film will be too. But just spit-balling here, in the books Roland is drawn up as a stoic, non-communicative type. The trailer may have needed Jake to do all the exposition because the movie was faithful to Roland's character (at least his character in the early novels) who really only spoke when necessary. Kind of hard to give an un-knowing audience any idea what to expect with Elba just giving the camera a dead-eyed stare for two minutes.
  2. Agree. I'm not sure why he would even bother with a Joe Mauer question except to take a break for some levity/snark. Joe has not yet announced his retirement and it's not 2010, seems like a question about Joe Mauer would get skipped considering there were likely more relevant questions not being answered. Probably not a ton of Ichiro or Curtis Granderson questions getting answered. Not that it bothers me, just a bit out of place.
  3. I think there would be some assuagement of anxiety (not all) if we got an explanation from Falvey himself. Few people on this site want to hear Molitor's thoughts on the situation, we want the justification from the man at the top.
  4. And King movies always have the same problem; he does so much inner-monologue in his books that when you try to re-create that on the screen the characters are constantly explaining themselves and it always sounds like an unrealistic personal interaction and lazy writing.
  5. I know a lot of eager book readers are going to be upset that this isn't a faithful retelling of the story, but I'm coming around to the idea that it would be for the best if it were not. There is just so much material, it all can't be done, nor should it. Some of the older stuff is also a bit dated, particularly any of the racial themes from the second book. There are also several parts of the book that seemed to be a bit contrived or Deus ex-Machina-ish; there's plenty that could be re-worked. Also, they were already going to get a certain demographic of fans upset by the casing of Elba. And frankly, as popular as this book is with core Stephen King fans, there aren't nearly enough of us that upsetting the apple cart would be a huge deal. Stephen King might be the world's best selling author, but I'd bet these books didn't have anything close to the following of stuff like Harry Potter, and it's not nearly as timely as all of those movies based on novel series of teenage dystopian worlds or vampires that were all the rage the last decade.
  6. I agree, many do, but not all. And the ones that proactively make changes because they foresee a problem often irritate their employees who don't like change. At the same time, I'll bet those proactive companies perform better than the companies that drag their feet. In fact I'd bet feet dragging on modernization is a reason many companies go belly up in the first place.
  7. But if the hypothesis of this article is that his peripherals show this will not continue, wouldn't the fair thing for everyone (except Kintzler) be to not let the inevitable happen in the first place?
  8. Saves, goose eggs, Nobel Prizes; I think the other 29 teams will all decline to pick up the phone simply because of the 12% K rate.
  9. It would be nice if our team would see the writing on the wall and act prior to, not after it's too late. I would guess if asked Molitor would justify keeping him in there by talking about loyalty and doing what's fair to Brandon. Well there's 24 other players on the team who it isn't fair to if you lose games because you were being fair to a single guy.
  10. And considering absolutely no one in the organization is asking for it back. Negotiating a player's salary automatically comes with the idea that there is a risk that the guy will become irreparably damaged.
  11. "Scoops" aren't really our thing here at Twins Daily. We'll gladly take one but we're more about discussing other people's scoops.
  12. I'm guessing Dan didn't look at the stats, Joe isn't getting many singles either. When I hear "singles hitter" I think of guys like Ben Revere, Juan Pierre and Ichiro Suzuki, not a guy batting .220.
  13. Whoo hoo! If our beloved site is being used for statistical confirmation that means we're legit! Right?
  14. Perhaps you should have led with that response instead of accusing someone else of being a supporter of bigots.
  15. That was awesome. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds = Luke is in the Desert and Whining. So awesome! So are they going to do Abbey Road with Empire? Because they should.
  16. So you expect behavior to change without first finding out the factors that bring out the improper behavior? No one's claiming to be an expert in the psychological issues of bigots, but few people here are statisticians or batting coaches and that doesn't stop us from speculating about why Byron Buxton has trouble making contact with breaking balls. If you think the causation of behaviors is irrelevant then you don't actually care about fixing the problem, you just want to point fingers.
  17. I always found the lightrail cheap. Mostly because I prefer to ride it without purchasing a ticket.
  18. You had me with the title of the thread. I'm going to listen to this when I go to bed; this game can't get over fast enough.
  19. I haven't been able to watch much baseball recently. Guess my minimal free time scheduled me a fun one tonight!
  20. Yeah, the history books leave out that the Trail of Tears was actually made up of tears of joy and gratitude toward Andrew Jackson.
  21. I would if my kids were with me. That is if I didn't confront the person directly. Actually I'm quite confident I'd confront the person. All it would probably take is one person to stand up for the rest of the crowd who finds the behavior repulsive to turn against the bigots. Not that that would be the right approach necessarily.
  22. "Less than 30 of our fans were ejected for publicly and embarrassingly being drunken bigots!" -- Much better PR. I'm so embarrassed by these people. Darwinism isn't happening quickly enough in my book.
  23. I say national guys can start talking him up AFTER he gets an extension.
  24. Looks like they cut a bunch of writers. I know I'm pretty naïve about all this stuff, but couldn't Netflix or some other cord-cutting outlet snag up Stark, Werder and/or some of the other bigger named free agent sports personalities to start the streaming sports revolution that many of you have been suggesting needs to happen?
  25. I'd agree but with the belief that his leash also might extend past Gibson's. If Berrios gets called up and struggles initially I could see them riding him a bit longer then they normally would if Gibson too is still a train wreck. If he can't turn it around I think the team makes a decision on him first regardless of how Berrios performs. Which would buy Berrios extra time through no actions of his own.
