  1. It's a tough spot for any celebrity, not just politicians and I understand the idea since there are plenty of people still living in the stone age who think eating with a woman who isn't your wife is terrible, and those people are typically his base voters. But at some point he and other's worried about their image need to tell those that would judge him on this BS to get lost. Because these are likely the same kinds of people who would have thought dinner alone with a black man 40 years ago was also sinful, and even guys like Pence have typically called BS on that kind of judgment in this day and age.
  2. We apparently called the Russians to get out of the way and Syria says the bombings killed six people at the base that was attacked. A conspiracy nut might think 6 dead Syrian soldiers sounds a lot like the price Russia and Trump would agree might throw people off the scent of their collusion. That nut might also wonder why if Russia knew the attack was coming they too didn't warn the six dead Syrians. Good thing I'm not a conspiracy nut.
  3. Actually to me I'd think the comparable would be "I won't have dinner alone with a black person" which would bring out pitchforks. I'm not sure why "I won't have dinner alone with women" largely gets eye-rolls. Racism = a blight on our civilization. Misogyny = a silly thing old white guys still do but probably shouldn't. LOLs. I know that wasn't your point though Levi; just how I see the situation.
  4. Also pretty amazing he made it to third with ease. Not only because he's faster than he looks, but also because he hustled the whole way. Plenty of guys slimmer and speedier than him would trot that out assuming it was either gone or a fly out.
  5. If we're talking about the Royals pitching it's spelled "piñata". And geez, I'm really regretting not coming up with that pun for the Twins pitchers sometime in the past half decade.
  6. When I looked earlier I only found the one quote and it was from 2012. But this is really all a matter of what lens is being used. Is this about morality (infidelity) or equality (mysogeny). Because if Pence said he didn't find it acceptable to be alone with his black coworkers, even the conservative publications would back away from him. Well not Brietbart, but at least most of them.
  7. I think few of us, or at least me, would have a problem if this was his own personal philosophy. And I might agree with you that it is probably a good one simply to protect yourself as a celebrity since it's easy to see the media snapping up some pics innocent or not and at minimum forcing you to explain yourself. However I do have a problem with the fact that pretty much every conservative site that defended him didn't do so based on the idea that he was protecting his image from unscrupulous media members but instead defended him by saying that he was right to avoid women because it's somehow immoral. Those judgmental scumbags can mind their own GD business. And I do disagree with Pence's tactic because while it protects him, it puts his female subordinates and compatriots at a considerable disadvantage to his male subordinates and compatriots when it comes to furthering their own personal goals.
  8. And if that had been the title of your thread you would have gotten nearly 100% positive feedback. Even Delmon Young would likely get defended against passive aggressive and unwarrented snark and ridicule. Mauer is anything but a sacred cow on this site.
  9. At this point it looks like there is an extremely concerted effort to alternate right-handed-possible batters and left-handed-possible batters. The league didn't make a new rule I'm not aware of did they?
  10. Not upset by it at all, but a lack of position flexibility now appears to be a bit of an issue going forward. After getting yanked around to disastrous results last year I understand why the team would only want Sano to focus on one position, but getting Kepler 1B reps perhaps should have been part of the game plan this spring. Or if not Kepler then Polanco or Escobar.
  11. I agree on the Escobar front. I'd just prefer his playing time came at the expense of Grossman or Mauer instead of Polanco. Though for it to come at the expense of Mauer either Polanco, Sano or Kepler have to start taking some 1B reps. And if it's Kepler playing 1B then Escobar is going to the OF which I'm not a huge fan of.
  12. Right basically if the lineup is constructed by the new analytically inclined front office my reaction is: "Awesome, we're doing something different!" If it came from Molitor my reaction is: "Ugh, not another season of these kinds of poor decisions!" Man, admitting one's own hypocrisy really eases the burden on your conscience!
  13. Just....just so weird. If Falvey came out and explained that there was some method to the madness I'd probably be behind it. Though to be fair, if Molitor was the one to come out and say the same thing I'd probably have tons of doubts.
  14. http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2017/04/04/isis-calls-donald-trump-an-idiot.html?via=desktop&source=copyurl Great, so if ISIS is calling Trump " an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is" I guess that makes ISIS...right? Awesome, thanks prez for making the terrorists appear to be the intelligent side.
  15. MVP: Sano POY: Mejia Reliever: Pressly (who's closing by May) Rookie: Mejia I agree with Mike and Thrylos except for the reliever.
  16. Sharrif Floyd? I thought his career was in doubt. I might be interested but it looks like Sherman only has two years left on his deal with two years of 13M+ cap hits. That's pretty pricey.
  17. OK, but how is he at guard?
  18. I'm sure they look better when Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario are filling them out than when I do.
  19. I don't like it and no one should, but since that happened after election and while Trump was already president-elect, I don't know that this is any huge smoking gun. "Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would be likely to require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions." Obviously the full agenda would make or break any kind of judgment on the meeting, but from this description, exploring solutions to Syria and Iran sound like the kind of meeting the President or Secretary of State should be having. The cloak and dagger aspects are troubling, but frankly, both sides are probably more amenable to concessions if they think the media won't get wind of the conversations.
  20. So slightly related, but at the game yesterday instead of a shot of the guys in their uniforms, all the players profile pictures on the Jumbotron were of the guys wearing business casual wear standing in front of a fancy fireplace advertising for a menswear company which I will not name as I am not going to further their advertising goals (and also I forgot the name of the company). Also, the grounds crew had to change some cap on the dirt rakes they would drag along the infield between innings because each cap was a different advertiser and I guess different advertisers now get different innings to be shown raking the dirt. Toro doesn't get to corner that market alone anymore it seems. I'm guessing the weather-postponement contingency plan that is the off day is here to stay, big money to be made "opening day". Though I'm a bit skeptical it is actually worth the hassle considering the sections in the upper deck of right-center field looked about 1/3 full. If the team wants to learn any lesson from yesterday's sellout which was not a sellout, it's that putting a winning team together is going to be more important to filling the stadium than gimmicks and the novelties of "opening day".
  21. Do does crowd enthusiasm for Kepler beating out a bunt embolden Molotor to continue bunting guys when he shouldn't?
  22. Reporting live from Target Field, an unofficial observation, shows the number of eyebrows raised when Buxton was announced as the number three hitter was slightly surpassed by the number of one eyebrows raised when Castro was announced as the number six hitter. Back to the studio for more riveting game thread action.
  23. Plenty of available seats left folks. Come on down!
  24. Trolling is expressly prohibited on Twins Daily.
  25. Ah, but will the front office stand behind the left side of the infield while they're taking sharp grounders?
