  1. I don't like it and no one should, but since that happened after election and while Trump was already president-elect, I don't know that this is any huge smoking gun. "Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would be likely to require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions." Obviously the full agenda would make or break any kind of judgment on the meeting, but from this description, exploring solutions to Syria and Iran sound like the kind of meeting the President or Secretary of State should be having. The cloak and dagger aspects are troubling, but frankly, both sides are probably more amenable to concessions if they think the media won't get wind of the conversations.
  2. So slightly related, but at the game yesterday instead of a shot of the guys in their uniforms, all the players profile pictures on the Jumbotron were of the guys wearing business casual wear standing in front of a fancy fireplace advertising for a menswear company which I will not name as I am not going to further their advertising goals (and also I forgot the name of the company). Also, the grounds crew had to change some cap on the dirt rakes they would drag along the infield between innings because each cap was a different advertiser and I guess different advertisers now get different innings to be shown raking the dirt. Toro doesn't get to corner that market alone anymore it seems. I'm guessing the weather-postponement contingency plan that is the off day is here to stay, big money to be made "opening day". Though I'm a bit skeptical it is actually worth the hassle considering the sections in the upper deck of right-center field looked about 1/3 full. If the team wants to learn any lesson from yesterday's sellout which was not a sellout, it's that putting a winning team together is going to be more important to filling the stadium than gimmicks and the novelties of "opening day".
  3. Do does crowd enthusiasm for Kepler beating out a bunt embolden Molotor to continue bunting guys when he shouldn't?
  4. Reporting live from Target Field, an unofficial observation, shows the number of eyebrows raised when Buxton was announced as the number three hitter was slightly surpassed by the number of one eyebrows raised when Castro was announced as the number six hitter. Back to the studio for more riveting game thread action.
  5. Plenty of available seats left folks. Come on down!
  6. Trolling is expressly prohibited on Twins Daily.
  7. Ah, but will the front office stand behind the left side of the infield while they're taking sharp grounders?
  8. Souhan also would have included some kind of derogatory term for Sano in the title and found a way to squeeze in a jab at the front office.
  9. Why can't this new "30-35" man roster include guys like Melotakis, Reed, Gonsalves and Vielma? I mean if you have to turn to Nick Tepesch or Danny Santana what's the point in accumulating "depth"? This team doesn't have 30-35 MLB caliber players, I'm not sure they have 20. Saying they are constructing the roster this way to preserve depth isn't an honest assessment of this club. I get that they don't like to make irrevocable decisions, who does? But they're just kicking the can down the road hoping circumstances beyond their control make the decisions for them. Just get it over with, rip the band-aid off, after it's done you'll be free of the consternation and see that it wasn't all that painful of a baseball decision. They can say it's about depth but it's not, this organization just doesn't have that luxury at the moment; it's just about delaying the inevitable.
  10. All fair points and comps I'm sure. I've been pretty consistent for quite awhile now though, I don't trust nor particularly want 30-year-old pitchers. Nearly to a man they've already peaked.
  11. It seems to me guys start losing velocity after only a few seasons into their career. Maybe 1.5-2MPH is the norm but I don't know that 3 is a huge outlier. He's 28 in people years but he's been in the majors a decade; in pitcher years he's like 34.
  12. Breaking and offspeed pitches? So he's working on his curve AND his change? Or is he just working on his change which could be considered breaking and offspeed? Because he has barely thrown his changeup in five years. Either way, good luck to him, he's going to need at least one of the two pitches and they're going to have to be good if the other pitches are a sub 90MPH heater and a cutter. Hughes' curve hasn't been very good since he was a rookie, so if he has figured something out, more power to him. Sabathia's best pitch is his slider though and it always has been.
  13. Sadly, your concern makes too much sense. If the same guy has nearly the exact same players from last year, why would we expect him to use them differently?
  14. Sorry, but you're going to have to be more specific, that could be anyone. I thought Molly was supposed to be a lame duck manager. If so why isn't Falvey telling him that he'll get what he gets and he won't throw a fit. My 6-year-old taught me that one.
  15. I'll watch the games so the game threads make some sense. And by some, I mean very, very little, bordering on zero sense. Like always.
  16. Phew, 90 games is about all I could probably handle this year anyway!
  17. His career .632 OPS is slightly below corner infield expectations.
  18. That's pretty ominous considering it's not even opening day. Animosity and distrust can't be good for team chemistry. I can see how demoting the team's best hitter this spring has the other players pessimistic about how things will go the rest of the season.
  19. Hmmm, hope Molitor doesn't need a pinch hitter anytime soon.
  20. I'll also be in the minority and not be upset about one more chance for Tonkin. But Molitor HAS to go along with new ideas. The role a guy plays simply cannot be based on his experience but instead on his skill set. Just because a guy is a veteran doesn't mean he has the ability to work high leverage situations. If you can't miss bats you shouldn't be called into the game with a runner on 3rd and one out. Tonkin had issues last year, still, if you absolutely needed a strikeout he was pretty much the only one in the pen who had that ability. Sometimes that means he has to pitch in a tight spot, it's just how the game works.
  21. Perfect, let the Reds season him up with some MLB experience before the Twins kindly refuse their overtures to retain him for a PTBNL in a month or so.
  22. I would pause it but then after about 30 seconds it would un-pause. After that it wouldn't stay paused for any length of time. And I couldn't rewind it, it would start to go through the motions but then quickly return to what was playing live. Maybe it does have something to do with the trial version.
  23. I can try hooking it up the Playstation but it's about 20 years old. Are there newer models?
  24. Forget about the speculation and drama from those too far removed from the situation. We're always glad to have informed voices for our favorite minor league teams. Any news or information you would like to share here is not only welcome but much appreciated. Thanks for the post and I truly hope to see more!
  25. Right, had his take simply been: 'The Twins are going to be real bad this year' we'd all be in agreement that this guy knows his stuff.
