  1. Just an issue with the semantics possibly, but I don't think either of those things are really that outrageous. Less than 50/50 either happen, but his phrasing makes them both sound like longshots which I wouldn't think is the case. Not that a 20/20 or 40 HRs automatically make for a good individual season. We've seen players do both and still look pretty ordinary or even poor.
  2. Comic book movies have never left such a loose thread hanging. It makes me think they might save it for later, but if they made a film continued from this storyline I don't know that it could be worked in organically, particularly if Hugh Jackman is truly done. I wonder if there's any chance that it might instead be worked into Legion somehow. Not that anyone knows how or even if that storyline is or will be connected in any way to any X-Man related film.
  3. Yes, but now my fear after seeing that Wagner deal is that the Vikings are going to wait out Kalil while the remaining options all sign and the Vikings will be left without a chair when the music stops and Kalil goes elsewhere. I'm not going to denounce Speilman, he's done some really good things in the past, but I've become less and less convinced that he can put a competitive offense together any longer. I'm ready for a new leading man. Or woman, I'm not a misogynist.
  4. Well it's the 49ers so that should explain it a bit. Maybe there's a reason everyone kept comparing Jon Lynch to Matt Millen after all.
  5. Yes, it was a key talking point for the new front office, something that is more than welcoming. I'm great with everyone having a swing that best suits their skills. I just want the players, Kepler included, to have an open mind when it comes to listening to the coaches who may have more insight than him.
  6. I actually didn't mind the innuendo and loose thread regarding this event. I was only left scratching my head because it seemed like the movie was giving hints at two separate and unrelated culprits.
  7. I think the problem is that the batters embrace his changeup and curve as well. They're just not very good pitches. He'd just be throwing more of a bad pitch. There have been plenty of relievers who have succeeded on a cutter heavy approach though.
  8. Max knows more about hitting than I do (but less than Parker!) so at this point I'll judge his swing by his results. But in my view this is a completely unacceptable attitude. With how often players and teams change their swings, approach at the plate and in-game strategy, a guy can't be this resolute in what he wants to do. It 100% does not prove everyone else wrong and thinking so and saying it on record to a reporter is just going to make him want to commit to that swing even if it ends up needing to be revamped.
  9. But the teams that you say weren't acting ethically also followed the rules. The rules implicitly allowed them to chose option B. How is it any different than a base runner trying to steal signs from the catcher? Or fouling a terrible free throw shooter in basketball? Or requesting an extension to file your taxes? Are those ethical problems as well?
  10. Wikipedia says he was the Jets OC for one season back in 2012. I didn't recall that.
  11. My wife surprised me and let me off of kid duty to go watch it. Lot's of great classic western analogies in that one. Different aspects of El Dorado, True Grit, Shane and Lonesome Dove notably come to my mind. I didn't know I'd be so sentimental about the Professor X/Logan relationship. No spoilers, but did I miss something when it came to revealing what happened to all the other mutants? It seemed to me a couple completely different characters were trying acknowledge that it was their doing.
  12. I might be interested in Nick Mangold for a center or guard spot too. If memory serves he's been a pretty ornery kind of player and he sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder also. I usually like those guys on the O line.
  13. The Chargers released DJ Fluker. He didn't exactly live up to his draft hype but he's no slouch and a better RG or RT than the team has now (which actually might be nothing). Just another possibility for the O Line, there are starting to be some options thankfully. I just don't want the team to give out real money to a RB. Spend the money on the line and gamble on a low money/league minimum deal for a RB. There isn't a back out there that doesn't look like a crap shoot anyway. Might be a good idea to spend a little bit on another DB also.
  14. Few are debating that. We're wondering how it's possible that Phil Hughes is ironclad.
  15. Agree. Hopefully the former jocks have historically asked for and gotten more money than the guys who actually went to school for this stuff. If that's the case than maybe the jocks get cut to save cash. But I really have no clue, maybe the jocks don't actually get paid more.
  16. I don't watch much ESPN anymore, but it's still a bit sad. Forget about Sportscenter or the People Screaming At Each Other shows, they do have a lot of really good broadcasting talent, I'd hate to see some people out of a job. More sadly, it's probably the broadcasters who focus on the more niche sports that will be first to go. Also probably the actual reporters, like the "Outside the Lines" kind of guys who can create something journalistically honorable will be on the chopping block, meanwhile they'll keep all the guys who Tweet breaking news of who's going to be the Cowboys backup QB next year.
  17. Hughes has been a decent pitcher only two of his last six seasons. I can't speak for others here that are disappointed, but handing guys a job just because they are a veteran was something I was desperately hoping the new front office would change. I don't think vets should get the benefit of the doubt, we've all seen how players age, if anything they should be held up to a more skeptical evaluation. I don't think teams like the Dodgers or Cubs would just hand the job to a Phil Hughes should they find themselves in the same situation. Those teams have few qualms about turning a veteran starter into a reliever instead of trying to squeeze every last start out of the guy, even when the writing is on the wall.
  18. Phil is making 13M per year. While that's too much for a back of the rotation arm, it's actually not really out of line with back of the bullpen arms these days. If Phil could show some effectiveness in the pen he still might have some value. Hughes also still has some name brand appeal likely. Mark Melancon is making way more than Hughes for example. Melancon also has low velocity and largely uses a cutter.
  19. I don't know why, but I thought his FB was 94-96. Looking around, it does seem to be about 93-95. I'd like more velocity also. Has anyone seen any games or seen any write ups about how long he holds his velocity into the game? I do love sliders though, if it's truly a great pitch I still wouldn't write him off.
  20. Coach only made him throw 79 pitches last game. That makes me feel better. I'm still worried about him getting abused once the SEC schedule and the college World Series starts pressuring his coach to get every pitch out of him that he possibly can. Greene is still my choice but Faedo is a close second assuming he comes out of the season without his coach doing ungodly things to his arm.
  21. Berrios is going to pitch in the WBC where the Twins will have less control in terms of controlling his innings, this might be the last chance they have to do so until after the tournament. Also with his absence from the team for the WBC he's going to have less time to develop and work on things with the team which means it might already be a foregone conclusion that he isn't going to head north with the club. If it's already in the cards that he'll start in AAA, of course they should be giving May more innings. But his failure to make the team would be because of his choice to play in the tournament, not because the Twins are being Tyrannical. Not in this case anyway.
  22. Basically the same complaint for Arraez and Granite; no power projection. My two cents, it's easier for us to say the Twins need a shortstop, or the Twins need a catcher. I think we should be saying the Twins need a leadoff hitter. They need a Luis Castillo or Denard Span. One of these guys or Buxton or Polanco, I don't care. To throw their hat in the ring though Arraez or Granite might have to get a bit better at taking walks because I don't think another Ben Revere is the answer. Granite looks like a better bet to take pitches based on what he did in 2015, but he did take a step back in the BB department last year.
  23. Naiveté Alert: So how many pieces of hardware do you need for this thing? It looks like some kind of Nintendo/Wii console + some kind of hand-held tablet + this "Switch" thing to use them together. Is that right? Plus all the games? Man, all this stuff has to cost an arm and a leg.
  24. Hughes doesn't have a very good curve though and he's barely thrown a change up in five years and it wasn't very good when he did. He just doesn't seem to have very usable off speed stuff. Also, Buerhle was a lefty. Lefties just seem to have so much more leeway when it comes to velocity than righties do.
  25. He'd likely have a better chance of ramping the velocity back up to a usable range in the pen. Just my two cents. Mariano Rivera worked with a 90-92 MPH cutter exclusively for years. That's Hughes' only reliable pitch anyway. Heck, Rivera might have been who he learned that pitch from.
