  1. Obviously I'd take the under. But this is baseball, every year is surprising in some way. I'll say this: I like the 2017 club better than I liked the 2015 club at this time two years ago.
  2. Interesting idea, if the Twins keep in their losing by ways FSN could start hiring sock puppets and it wouldn't matter. I might shoot for assistant to the traveling secretary though.
  3. Geez, all this snark might make a young person otherwise interested in the gig have second thoughts. Sounds like a great opportunity for some of our young and childless baseball enthusiasts.
  4. The Twitter commenters you don't like don't stand for anything. There isn't anything for them to build political momentum around. The Democratic party should taken to task for these people because someday they MIGHT grow to power around some kind of pro-internet trolling platform? There's no logic here, the party leaders are not involved in this non-sense. Anger and frustration are irrational responses these aren't things someone is going to be able to stop. People who agree with left policy but don't want to be caught dead supporting them are the people who have bought into the BS propaganda about the snobby liberal elite. The other party has trademarked that stereotype for the other side and people are buying it. It has little to do with what ever anger internet trolls are spewing and having that take over the party. I think it has a LOT to do with being afraid that the guys down at the Elks Club finding out that they agree with the snooty commie liberals.
  5. These people aren't running the party, IGNORE them, they have no pull and make no policy. The Tea Party does. Nobody, on the right or left can stop the crazies, but you can keep them from having any power. Only one party has done that.
  6. This is propaganda. You're seriously saying liberals are shamming people for being under-privileged? Defending the minority and under-privileged is a cornerstone of the whole movement. The Republicans aren't lining up on social media to corral people into supporting their minority opinion because the fringe groups are already running the party and doing what they want. They don't need to round up civilian supporters for their lunacy, they have to round up the remaining ethical politicians into going along with insane ideas, and that goes on behind the scene. Case in point, the Republican Senate just made DeVos the Secretary of Education. There aren't lunatic fringe liberals with any power in the Democratic party that would have convinced the rest of the party to go along with something equally as asinine. Oh, and your kidding about no Republicans denouncing scientists right?
  7. So the left has a problem in that they aren't nipping all the arrogant people in the bud? That's not a very reasonable expectation, that's just looking for an excuse to blame the party. And seriously, what exactly is the bat-**** crazy things these people have gotten the party leaders to do? And this depiction of the smug, snobby, typical-lefty is an entirely offensive and BS stereotype. It's a freakin' caricature of the tweed-wearing, pipe-smoking, know-it-all college professor. The Republican party has painted this minority stereotype across all liberals and told everybody, "You can be this guy who thinks he's better than you because he went to school, or you can be us!" and their supporters have eaten it up and have now associated getting an education with being this exaggerated, arrogant cartoon.
  8. Is this smugness and snobbery a real thing with left wing politicians, or just a narrative that the right has somehow manufactured and people who want to believe it embrace it with gusto? Because for every smug Democratic politician moment, I seem to recall about a dozen from the other side. I don't think Trump or Ted Cruz have any other demeanor than smug. Or is the smugness and snobbery more coming from a faction of leftwing supporters? Because if that's the case, so what? You're not voting for those people, they're just annoying %$^&s. Every party has annoying %$^& supporters.
  9. I would agree, but color me extremely skeptical that Joe Mauer is going to see any significant reduction in playing time, baring injury of course. Even if in theory the front office is game to it, it will be Molitor, not them who will be omitting Mauer's name from the lineup and dealing with any awkwardness and repercussions.
  10. Yes, it would if a football player from NDSU went into the NFL, they talk about that stuff all the time. But it doesn't get brought up if a baseball player came from NDSU, Juan Gamez actually came from NDSU last year and is now in the Twins system. It also doesn't get brought up with HS players or Latin players. They may bring up concerns about "level of competition" or concerns about hitting a good breaking ball or making enough contact or chasing pitches, but it's rare that anyone mentions concerns about catching up to a MLB fastball. And Brandon wrote a good article, my question is just a generality since this velocity stuff was what we heard about when Park was signed and before that with Kang. I don't question why people would worry about it. It just seems to me that when asked if Park can catch up to a 95 MPH heater, the answer should be "Duh, that's a concern with EVERYBODY".
  11. Again, I'm not disagreeing, the ability or inability to catch up to a fastball should be a concern. I'll try to be more clear. Why is this concern always talked about with Korean players, but rarely if ever talked about with everyone else?
  12. I don't disagree, and I love me some velocity, players should and do have trouble with it. I'm just trying to understand why when we talk about Korean players we worry about them catching up to the fastball but when we talk about American or Latin players, the worry is about the breaking ball and off speed stuff. Everyone who's not a prodigy should be in for a shock with all aspects of MLB pitching.
  13. Maybe, but nobody starts out in A or AA. I don't recall ever hearing anyone talk about if Byron Buxton or any other teenager would be able to hit a MLB fastball coming out of the draft. It's not like KBO pitchers are throwing softer than the average HS kid here in the states.
  14. On a side note, it seems like there is a unique concern about KBO players adjusting to MLB velocity. Obviously it's a change and surely not everyone can make that change, but we never talk about college or HS draft picks or even AAA hitters in terms of struggling to adapt to MLB velocity. With American kids it's always about if they can adjust to hit breaking and off speed stuff. After all isn't the age old (though exaggerated) conversation something along the lines of 'Anyone can hit a 100 mph fastball, it's the breaking stuff that is going to prevent that kid from hitting in the big leagues.'?
  15. I think the question when Park came over was about adjusting to velocity. Everyone kept referring to fellow countryman Jung Ho Kang and how he was lost for the first couple of months before finally adapting. There was a lot of discussion about whether Park should start at AAA last year instead of just tossing him into the pool. Park was expected to struggle, there was also hope that he'd adjust just as Kang did. I don't think he's been given that opportunity yet.
  16. So, do you think Dan realized he used one poster's logic, which he dismissed, to answer another posters question five minutes later? Seems like he might have been winging it in regards to his Park takes. Also, I'm not sure why he thinks he'd have to bet on Alonso or Park, keeping your chips in your pocket is also an option.
  17. I understand the desire, but didn't we learn from Torii Hunter that leadership skills aren't exactly transferable upon the younger players? Do these guys have something that Hunter didn't? Because according to most every player, Hunter's face was next to the definition of 'clubhouse leadership skills' in the dictionary. If this leadership stuff is essential, and the team currently doesn't have it, then I think they should be looking at acquiring such a player on a long-term deal. Why just 2017? And to be clear, long term deals to veterans typically upset me and it's not something I'm promoting.
  18. Do you need special forms and paperwork specific to minor league deals? Because if so, the Twins may have ran out of those documents already.
  19. Well let me give you my two cents.... End of joke.
  20. Why are they only looking at DH/1B options? There seems to be no logic there. Why not aim for the "veteran leadership" of a right handed outfielder? Unless they truly would consider the unthinkable and release Joe Mauer, I don't get it.
  21. Sano is hopefully a future cornerstone of the team and has room to improve in all facets of the game, Alvarez is on the back nine of his career. And no, Sano is not worse than Alvarez. Alvarez hasn't played 3B regularly for three years and last time he got any kind of regular reps there was in 2014 when he was the 2nd worst defender for the position in baseball. There's no reason to sign Alvarez to make him your starting 3B.
  22. Alvarez is a really, really bad defensive 3B though. Why him instead of Sano?
  23. Why would Warren be out talking to rural voters except possibly the rural voters in Massachusetts? That sounds like phony glad-handing someone would do during a campaign.
  24. I don't think it's a change of rule, I believe stopping deliberation has always been an option however it has not happened in a long time because both parties know turnabout is fair play and it will bite them in the butt next time they are on the receiving end. Obviously Trump has never had a long term vision and can't be obliged to think about what will happen to him or his party next month, he just wants what he wants and he wants it now, repercussions be damned.
  25. Do they make the sport worse? Frankly, with how obsessed with how Twins pitching has been to stay away from the top of the zone, I like the new strikezone. Sorry Gibson, time to come up with a new pitching strategy!
