  1. Why on earth would these readers assume the author is a conservative Trump backer, why would this be surprising to them? Aside from the fact that very few people actually like Trump, didn't they get the clue as to her ideologies when people were burning her books because they were full of witchcraft?
  2. I'm quite confident none of those things are at all related to each other. Each was an independent decision caused by different contributing factors and motivations. Except for the Walker/Palka bit. They may have DFA'd Walker because they preferred Palka.
  3. La Velle Tweeted that the expectation is that he'll clear waivers: https://twitter.com/LaVelleNeal/status/827595931533058049 I think it's possible that in the Twins eyes clearing waivers is all but a certainty meaning all this did was let them put off any decision until this spring. If he gets claimed we'll know they were wrong. If he doesn't, I guess we'll never know if there was much risk of losing him or not.
  4. Looks good, thanks Brock. I think you forgot the Olympic Beach Volleyball forum though. That thread was hopping last summer. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23548-olympic-volleyball/?hl=volleyball
  5. What on earth caused you to start squeezing donuts?! I also think Krispy Kreme are overrated, ours in town didn't last long either, though they chose a really bad location. I take my kids to a local donut shop downtown every Saturday while my wife works out of our house (she's a photographer). Shout out to Sandy's Donuts, for creating the only thing that makes my kids like me!
  6. I wonder if there has been an injury set back which the front office knows would stop any team from claiming him. It's not like wrist surgery comes with 100% satisfaction guarantee. But if this is just a straight up rejection of a player the previous regime valued, man, it makes you wonder if it's possible, even if slight, that Mauer might not be as un-releasable as we assume.
  7. He had me convinced for a minute as well, but that's $3M per year. There's still a three year commitment. To a DH no less. I'm still taking the odds on him staying.
  8. ***Mod Note*** I moved the Park related posts to the new Park thread created by Seth.
  9. Seems bizarre to me. Perhaps because all teams would at least take a look at a guy who owns both a CF and SS glove while hardly any teams care to look at an unproven DH. I still would have DFA'd Santana though.
  10. Wow. Not a fan of losing Park, but considering how difficult Chris Carter and Mike Napoli are finding the market, I'd guess Park clears waivers. I don't like the move really, but I DO like the implication; that being the new guys don't care much of the old guys' evaluations and they aren't going to worry about eating a contract of someone who may not fit their system.
  11. Interesting, he used to be a "sinkerballer" back in the day: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=279571&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=year&minmax=ci&var=pcount&s_type=2&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=02/03/2017 He now only uses his sinker very sparingly. Maybe he was brought in to try to show Gibson and Stewart that it is possible to be cured of that disease.
  12. It seems Tonkin is the guy most see as the odd man out. He's actually the kind of guy I want to see if Falvey's new strategies will benefit. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/24826-article-how-will-derek-falvey-improve-twins-pitching/ A mid-90s FB and a slider are my two of my three favorite pitches. The first being a high-90s FB. At times he has looked really good. Looking at which bullpen options on the 40-man should get the boot, it kind of seems difficult. The pen was terrible last year (last decade) but it looks to me that there are a lot of guys that are just good enough or just young enough where you don't really want to toss them out. So I can see how Tonkin could be first on the chopping block. I can also see how Justin Haley might not make the cut which would cause a lot of us to wonder how the worst team in the league, with the first pick in the Rule V draft couldn't find room for a guy.
  13. Our teacher brought it to school taped on a VHS, she hyped it for a week saying that we were going to watch it on Friday. I'm not sure if she came to her senses or if someone told her she couldn't show it to us, but we never did end up watching it in class. I don't recall a ton about my elementary school days, but I do remember the picture of Ronald Reagan hanging from her blackboard.
  14. I'd guess many of our educators on this board would disagree with this take. Coming from a family of educators, I believe that typically new curriculum and techniques get the kibosh at the administrative level, not that instructional level. In this case the administration appears to be very open to new curriculum and techniques.
  15. I'm really surprised by some of the responses to this article, this is easily the most encouraging thing written about the team this year. Yes, the team has done little to add pieces, but two of the biggest flags we hung on Terry Ryan and the previous regime was their resistance to innovation and the poor player development. This article makes it abundantly clear that the new guys have made these things top priorities. Embracing new ideas and emphasizing optimal development programs for the pitchers is far more important to this club's long term health than signing some third rate veterans. I'm just fine evaluating how these new strategies impact the players we have, maybe they'll turn out how we always expected them to with proper handling.
  16. Interesting. His age and low strikeouts make him look like a guy who'd be forced to take a MiLB deal. On the glass half empty side, I'd rather have a better free agent or give the job to a young guy. On the glass half full side, he's another of way too many RH relief options, which can't hurt May's odds of getting handed a starting job. Just please don't put another guy who can't miss bats in high leverage situations. Let's give this guy the bases empty in the sixth gigs.
  17. Those damn liberal Jesuits. Pretty sure those bleeding hearts started out trying to convert Muslims.
  18. Well the Twins used their first pick in the 2008 draft on a toolsy HS centerfielder, I'd guess few teams have gone back to back years doing that. Who knows, perhaps if the Twins hadn't drafted Aaron Hicks the year before, the team would have seen an organizational opening for Trout in 2009, but it's hard to fault them for not having a crystal ball.
  19. The list is depressing, but this team is in a prospect lull right now, mostly because they've promoted so many recently. They'll get more with the high draft picks and hopefully Dozier/Santana trades. Still, perhaps the Twins biggest issue is the bullpen and Klaw and nearly every other prognosticator don't typically rank relief arms. The Twins have several of those who might make impacts soon.
  20. Far too many movies suffer from a lack of Godzillas in my opinion. Though no number of Godzillas would have saved 2012.
  21. I liked Yeo, he seemed like a good guy. But isn't this Wild team nearly identical to the one he was forced to abdicate last year? And here I thought it was Chuck Fletcher this whole time. Not that this run definitively settles that debate.
  22. I was clearly referencing the frightening prospect of a cataclysmic chain of events that causes tsunamis, earthquakes and Godzillas to simultaneously destroy all the worlds nuclear reactors at the same time.
  23. At least it's not a nuclear winter, yet.
  24. Van, you're really starting to make me question my affinity for Calvin and Hobbes. And Calvin had better hair.
  25. Or maybe Arnold could just borrower Obama's fake birth certificate. "Aye am from A-Vi-ee. Eet is on my bert certificate"
