  1. I doubt fear had anything to do with it. Most people don't see De Leon as a top 10 prospect in baseball. Falvey came from Cleveland, I would guess he values velocity and breaking balls, two things De Leon does not have. Even if they did like him, they wanted more, that's not based off of fear. Being fearful would cause them to succumb to the offer of the more powerful and experienced Dodgers brass. This was the opposite of fear.
  2. I agree, I don't like calling players junk, even hypothetical ones. Unless a national guy actually used that phrase I think we can probably find a better word to refer to any possible throw-in type players. On the other side of the coin though, are you seriously asking why people are "slamming" you for criticizing the front office when you have no idea who the other players were? Why is anyone criticizing the front office when we don't know what the offer was? Simply because we just wanted this so bad and now we're disappointed?
  3. Then you need to stop saying it was a 100% certainty that it wasn't a 1:1 swap because we don't know that either. In fact we don't even know if the Twins were asking for De Leon.
  4. How are those things related? Nobody was offering a #2 starter for Dozier who is their best trade chip and there wasn't one available in free agency. Short of armed kidnapping what were they supposed to do?
  5. There have been a lot of Bond movies with good intros, not all have been good movies though. The last one, Spectre comes to mind. There was an Orson Wells movie A Touch of Evil which famously started out with a long take of a bomb being placed under a car and then the camera follows the car around a busy city while the audience is waiting for the explosion. But then we're introduced to Charlton Heston playing a Mexican. It was a really, really bad impression and pretty offensive also.
  6. Unbreakable was too far ahead of it's time. It was basically a superhero origin story made within the confines of our world as we know it. So basically it did what the more celebrated superhero movies made in the last decade have done but it did it twenty years ago and people didn't get it. The ending was disappointing though. You could tell it was trying to set itself up for sequels and someone pulled the plug on that idea at the last minute.
  7. I can only assume he said that because he assumed these players had long ago retired. There are no starting pitchers I'm interested in free agency at this point. I'd much rather give the jobs to May/Mejia/Berrios two of whom will already be squeezed out if the Twins give Hughes another shot at the rotation. I would be just fine adding a starting pitcher for the implicit purpose of going to the pen though.
  8. No way, I like being objectified! Well I assume I do, I don't think anyone has ever objectified me before, just objected to me.
  9. Isn't the integrity issue solely on the obstructionists who were illegally withholding the funds?
  10. The US can't do much to control that anymore than they can control what Isreal does with financial assistance or what Haiti did with earthquake money. Heck, they have a hard time controlling what happens to relief packages in our country: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/700-million-katrina-relief-funds-missing-report-shows/story?id=18870482
  11. Most teams, at least the ones at the forefront of innovation are using more than in-game statistics. http://nesn.com/2014/09/red-sox-among-mlb-teams-using-brain-training-in-scouting-development/ https://paw.princeton.edu/article/chris-moore-10-algorithms-field http://www.sbnation.com/longform/2015/7/15/8952915/take-me-out-to-the-brain-game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTQKQZ_QfMQ I really doubt that the Twins have done any of this yet, so there would be no data on the players for the Twins or any team to evaluate.
  12. This is starting to feel a little awkward. Nice work turning a perfectly innocent conversation about objectifying women into something we might feel a little ashamed about!
  13. At the top of your what?
  14. No but I've been pretty consistent that with players this questionable I'm going to want multiple lottery tickets. And there's a healthy gap between sucks and skepticism.
  15. What do algorithms matter? The Twins almost certainly didn't do any of the neuroscience or other proprietary testing that other clubs are doing to measure physical ability and mental acuity. If there no data points to analyze what are they supposed to evaluate?
  16. Good supporting evidence and I agree, he's likely bound for AAA again, but that's still not a fact.
  17. Well even if one deal doesn't DIRECTLY lead to another bad deal, I'm happy Falvey didn't make one with his first move and force us to talk about if this is going to be a pattern and/or if other wiser and better GM's are going to smell blood in the water manipulate him going forward. In other words, I'd hate to be next Arizona Diamondbacks.
  18. Aside from trading Dozier for De Leon, yeah I would have liked those moves, though based on the contract I'd guess both the Rays and Ramos know he won't catch much this year.
  19. Right, I didn't mean to compare him to Slama except in the fact that people can get pretty excited about numbers that aren't backed up by quality velocity or breaking pitches.
  20. How do you know they haven't?
  21. You say that like it's a certainty, they might get a better offer, we don't know. And KLaw has De Leon at 73. He's a soft tossing righty with a change and a below average slider. If he's lucky he'll be Rich Harden but with less velocity, maybe that would play in a ballpark like Dodger Stadium (or Oakland) but the Rays can have him. He put up Anthony Slama numbers in the minors and everyone's eyes popped but there was a reason he was drafted in the 24th round, that stuff isn't going to play at the majors. I'm not trading Brian Dozier for a 92 MPH heater and nobody else. I agree with posters who said it looked like the Dodgers weren't shopping for a 2B so much as they were shopping De Leon. They know he's Cinderella.
  22. Why do you think we'll have Dozier for the next two years? This won't be the only opportunity to move him. I think this big build up left many people disappointed, but this is only Act 1 of the Dozier trade saga.
  23. Brooks Baseball lists him with 298 pitches thrown. It also shows 9 swings and misses on his change up, maybe that's what he meant. Either way, I'm happy to hear Klaw's assessment. I also was/am very skeptical that a righty with a 92 MPH FB would get many strikeouts with only a changeup and a reportedly below average slider. I'd think he needs either a better breaking pitch or more velocity to continue his success at the MLB level. Or throw with his left hand.
  24. So you think Dozier would not have gotten significantly more than Forsythe AND the Dodgers were offering three players, not two? How insignificant would two additional pieces be then? And why would we care to have them?
  25. You know though, when that movie came out, and even still now, it never had the tag line, "Stephen King's The Running Man". Back in the 1980's it seemed his movies really used his name to sell them, I don't think they really did with The Running Man. However that might be because it was written under his pseudonym and while it was just coming out that King had been using a pseudonym, it wasn't really public knowledge. And also, they probably figured, we don't need King's name to market this, it's starring The Arnold Schwarzenegger and this is 1987!
