  1. Geez, I knew I recognized Mike Pence from somewhere prior to Trump picking him as running mate.
  2. I agree, and it could probably be a turn off for some baseball-only fans.
  3. Huh, looks like my memory is going. I guess he just had the build and the repertoire of a crafty lefty.
  4. Over the last three years Castro still took a 3rd of his PA against lefties. He is just so, so bad against them. Hopefully Garver can somehow find his way to the MLB team allowing Castro to be a five-games-a-week catcher or a strict platoon. Castro is just fine against righties.
  5. Kalil has never held up against speed rushers. It might stink for next year, but I cut him loose. He might be the best LT available, but that's not saying much and the team can't keep kicking the can down the road. Start looking for a long term solution, even if it's not until the 2018 draft. Or would Cleveland now move Joe Thomas for a 2nd rounder? He only has one year left on his deal so I'm not sure if that's a good move for the Vikings or not. If he's still OK next year then he could get franchised.
  6. I agree with May over Berrios if only because if May doesn't get moved back to the rotation now, the ship might sail for good. Also, well it's only my opinion and there hasn't been any other rumors that side with me, I bet Falvey will consider putting Hughes in the pen, healthy or not. He's a soft tossing righty with only three pitches, one being a cutter; so basically a bad curveball and two fastballs, which aren't very fast anymore. He's basically the opposite of what kinds of pitchers Falvey had in the rotation in Cleveland. He looks more like Zach McAllister who was moved to the pen two years ago than any pitcher in Cleveland's rotation.
  7. Sounds like hyperbole to me. Why does every write up I see about him call him a 5-tool guy and also compare him to Billy Hamilton and Jacoby Ellsbury? Is power not a tool anymore? Even if he has a little power, we've long known that lefties have to have a TON of power at Target Field to be more than a doubles hitter. Frankly, I hope his strikeouts don't decrease. If he still has swing-and-miss questions come draft time he's probably a mid-1st rounder, exactly the kind of guy the Twins can promise overslot money to at #35 if he tells other clubs that he will only sign for X amount.
  8. His sinker plus Sano's questionable D at 3B makes me think we might see a lot of Sano being lifted in the 9th for a defensive replacement. Which is not going to sit well with me after the first time Sano's turn in the order comes up again in the bottom of the 9th or extra innings. I"d give the job to Hughes if he's healthy.
  9. Yeah, but he's likely already tied too tightly to Trump's crazy agenda to shake loose, so him being competent and pushing the same schemes might be even more frightening.
  10. The Twins haven't had a year-in-year out reliable lefty in the rotation in over a decade. I am normally all about the ceiling and have little concern for the floor with young guys, but the Twins have spent years shoehorning lefties into the rotation, even when they weren't one of the five best arms. If they found a lefty who for the next five years was indubitably a lock for rotation because he was actually a solid pitcher, then they hopefully don't have to keep kicking young arms to the pen and AAA for inferior talent simply because they NEED a lefty.
  11. For some reason left handers seem to be able to pull this off. David Wells, CC Sabatthia, Carlos Silva, Eddie Guardado. Also, for some reason velocity tends to play up for lefties.
  12. Right, spring training just comes first. If they didn't start working on command in ST first, we'd probably be shaking our heads.
  13. I'm all for it, and I'd guess Molitor would be on board initially. However I could also see Molitor sliding back to full-time Mauer if Park/Vargas or whomever else is Mauer's RH platoon mate struggles.
  14. It sounded like they were working both sides of the plate, though not one any more than the other. Though I want to see them working up in the zone more as opposed to the team's fairly strict adherence to working low. It seems even more important now that the strike zone is at the top of the knees.
  15. I'm not sure if this is anything new; we heard a synopsis of Allen's command-focused development plan when Falvey decided to retain him last fall. I would guess this is not the entirety of the development ideas though. Reports were that Allen was fairly scathing in his review of the organization's prior ?philosophy/game-plan/development? regarding the pitching, so I'd think the only way that Allen could have kept his job when other field staff did not was by telling Falvey something that he liked. And Falvey came from an organization that has had recent success with pitching. I'm optimistic that SOMEONE has an idea as to what was previously wrong and I really don't care who that someone is as long as we start to see improvement, which frankly, shouldn't be hard; nowhere to go but up.
  16. Yeah, making the choices of whom to expose would have seemed much easier 12 months ago. Not a great time for a half dozen guys to finally break out. I mean unless you're interested in winning hockey games now. Then I suppose it is a pretty good time for them to break out.
  17. Yeah, pretty sure some of my irrational ranting posts about sinkerball pitchers have gone 2000 words easy.
  18. Seth's 'Stop By, Say Hi' thread really helped bring some of our long time viewers to their keyboards. Now we just need a 'Stop By, Write a 2,000 Word Story'!
  19. There seems to be far too many veterans at the AAA and MLB level. With the last front office, we could be extremely confident that the pecking order was almost always based on age then experience. I really hope that's not the case anymore. I'd really hate to think that guys like Hughes, Santiago, Vogelsong, Tepesch, Greenwood, Rucinski and Pino are going to get the first looks instead of the young guys at their respective levels. I really hope the first thing every pitcher over 26 was told yesterday when they reported was that they better be prepared to head to the pen and there better not be any grousing or campaigning to start if the younger arms are looking good to go.
  20. . Great way to break the ice here Walter. Nice job and I hope to see you continue contributing to the forums!
  21. He said realistic, we're still waiting for that nearly 250 years later.
  22. Hey, you can't prove it was Al, he never got convicted! I heard it was a hunting accident.
  23. My wife and I watched it too. Some really good laugh out loud moments. Walking Dead level of gore but a comedy. It was great. Also, I am beyond bored of the angsty teen trope, however the daughter in this one somehow didn't get on my nerves like those stock archetypes typically do. Well done all around.
  24. I think a picture with the nuclear football was implicit with any campaign contribution over 1M. Over 2M you get to push a button.
  25. Seems like one of the most respected publications of prospect rankings has at least some influence on the industry. And if these guys are buying BA, what other ownership interests might they try to acquire? To exaggerate the concern only to point out that there could be a conflict of interest now or in the future, there would be a huge cry of shenanigans if Hal Steinbrenner instead purchased BA.
